  1. I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I am new here. I thought I would share a little about my experience and see if anyone else had a similar situation. First let me say, I really was dragging my feet about having a Duodenal Switch as it seemed to so severe, but my doctor insisted it was the best procedure for me. The first week, I was hating life, but it gets a little better each day. I was told when I woke up from surgery that my appendix had been removed as well. I just figured that it was inflamed or something. I hadn't had any symptoms of appendicitis. . . . As it turns out, I had a non-malignant tumor in my appendix. It was a type that can become malignant and spread without symptoms, until it is well established all over the body. My surgeon told me at my two week post-op appointment that if I had had the gastric bypass he would not have been looking down as far as my appendix and would not have noticed it. The entire tumor was removed! Wow! Do I feel lucky! I thanked Dr. Roller several times, but once again: Thank you Dr. R!
  2. I used the phrase "Buyer's Remorse" for the first time in the hospital the night after surgery. I have thought it several times since. The other evening, I sat here determined to eat a small boiled hamburger patty and two scrambled eggs so I could get my Protein target for the day. My husband asked me why I was crying, and I was like if I don't get my 60g of protein, I will be bald. Bless his heart, he didn't laugh, but calmly reminded me that it has only been two and a half weeks since I had surgery. I feel your pain hon. Looks like you received a lot of good advice from the many kind replies you have received. If you are still having frequent bowl habits, and you haven't tried a milk alternative, you might. I couldn't stand how almond milk tastes with the post-op milkshakes so I tried soy milk. It is pretty good. I know soy protein isn't the optimal protein for "us", but it beats visiting the bathroom multiple times. I think in time, I will be able to go back to skim milk. Wishing you a much better 2017! Theresa
  3. Congratulations and wishes for a speedy recovery! I just had my DS on Dec 7th! It is scary and exciting at the same time, BUT it is a lease on a new life. The first few days are tough, but keep your eyes on the prize. . .a renewed and healthier you. Theresa
