  1. My suture area below my port is also dented. I just thought it had to do with the doc suturing too tightly, lol. My port actually bulges out some and I can feel it when I push around the bulge. I feel kind of assured that I can feel it because I can tell the my port hasn't flipped or something. Two weeks after surgery I thought that was where my band was until my swelling went down enough for me to determine that it was my port, lol.

My father is the worst and he doesn't even live close to me. He paid for 1/2 of my surgery (self-pay), so I'm going to have to just deal with it, but it does get so irritating. Thankfully, he does live so far away and I'm so grateful for his help - Brenda
  3. Hi Noahsmom - I felt the same way as you did right before my surgery. I wanted to cancel, but I'm glad that I didn't. I was like, what the heck am I doing?! My surgery was painless and I have had no problems with my band. I don't get my 1st fill until 7/7 and unfortunately, I can eat whatever I want, so all I'm trying to do right now is to not gain any of the weight I've lost back. You have to remember that not all posts on this forum are negative. There are lots of positive posts. I think it's only natural to feel scared and wanting to back out, I know I did. I also knew that I couldn't lose the weight alone, so I went with it. Do you know anyone who had the band or have a support group near you who you could contact and discuss your fears? I wish you luck in your decision - I know it's a difficult one. Brenda
  4. There's so many choices for full liquids. You can puree almost anything and it tastes the same with adding spices. Soups helped me a lot. See if your doctor will allow you to go on full liquids right away.
  5. I started mine the morning of surgery. Put in a tampon and no problem. Why do they have you spread eagle on the table? Glad I didn't know that before my surgery. I would have been mortified!
  6. I'm in the same place, 2 weeks post-op. I can't seem to control my portion sizes either. I'm always hungry. I'm truly in bandster hell, like you are. I can't wait until my first fill, 7/7/08. Good luck and hope it gets better for you - Brenda
  7. I don't think your a1c has to be down for the surgery, yet I was self-pay. Mine was over 8 when I had my surgery (it's supposed to be below 7). Good luck with your process - Brenda
  8. Just like Leslie, I too am in bandster hell. This is my most difficult time. I was able to eat full liquids the first 2 weeks, no problem. I start the mushies tomorrow, but am wanting food like there's no tomorrow. I'm so upset because I don't want to gain the weight I've lost so far. Like others, I can't wait until my first fill - Brenda
  9. I had a serious cough after surgery also. The cough felt like it did when I had a cold. They game me this contraption that I had to use 3 times a day. I had to breathe in and keep the bubble at a particular level. Worked great because my cough went away within a few days. Hope you feel better soon and gl with your band - Brenda
  10. When I was finally scheduled to have my surgery, I didn't want many people to know. However, the closer to my date, the more excited I became, and the more I wanted to tell people. Almost everyone was supportive of me, thank goodness. But even if they hadn't, I KNEW that this was the only option for me and my health. It seems like people don't want anyone to change, except maybe themselves. I've found that when I lose weight, people want to feed me, including my mother. So, I've decided that this is my journey and any one can join only if they are willing to go in my direction. Good luck with your surgery. Hopefully the people who know will realize that this is your decision and support you in an emotionally healthy manner - Brenda
  11. I seem to need water constantly. I was banded Wednesday. Is this normal to need water all the time? I'm on full liquids, thank God. I didn't know how I would have handled clear liquids only. I'm getting my protein in, no problem, and I'm not drinking water while I eat. Just seems like I'm always sipping water. Thanks - Brenda
  12. I was banded Wednesday also and I'm having the same problem with burping. Every time I drink, I have to burp. I've also not had any problems drinking, especially water. Been really thirsty. I'm a little sore, but no gas pains to really speak about. I spent 1 night in the hospital. My port area is swollen, but that's to be expected. I've been having difficulty peeing or getting my pee to start (sorry to be so graphic). Anyone else having that problem? - Brenda
  13. Just got back from the hospital. Was banded yesterday. Sore, but no gas pains. Kinda weird when I drink something, lol. I'm so glad I did this - Brenda
  14. I'm really scared too. I'm 1 week away and now have all these thoughts about what if it doesn't work, all the money I'm spending, etc. I think it's normal. I'm really excited, but at the same time apprehensive. Good luck in your journey. Brenda
  15. Way to go Pix. That must have been difficult, but you passed through the hurdle. I started my pre-op diet yesterday and so far so good. I know, though, that I'll be faced with what happened to you last night. The trick is to not have anything in the house that can make a slip-up easy. I need to clean cupboards, lol. Anyway, good luck and good job - Brenda
  16. hi..i live in manhatta, ks and will be banded by dr. saville may 28th. any other bandsters or hopeful bandsters live here?
  17. wow, can't believe i finally have a date. i'm so excited, but a little apprehensive about the pre-op diet. i just have to keep my goal in mind. good luck all other may bandsters  brenda
  18. My date is May 28th!!! I'm so excited for all of us.
  19. Awesome! What you do sounds good to me. My house needs so much work too, lol. At my weight, moving around is difficult. I can't wait until I lose 50 lbs where I can be much more active. I would love to be able to walk, bend, stretch, etc. Thank you so much for your input.
  20. I am not scheduled yet for surgery, but am wondering what others, who have been banded, do when they face the hard times? When you want to eat, what are some of the things one can do to take your mind off of wanting to eat?
  21. I see the behaviour therapist May 6th to work on eating behaviours. Hopefully he will have an action outline that I can tailor to my needs. I appreciate your response. I would like to know what other people do when they hit those hard times.
  22. I just saw the WLS psychiatrist and am now depressed. She said she thinks the surgery is a go, but she has some concerns. I know that I'm ready. She's worried what I'll do when difficulty arrises. I told her, that when that time comes, I'll have to talk to someone to get past it. What else can one do? I know that I'll have hard times, but does that mean I shouldn't have the surgery? I have tried many times to lose weight and I know that this surgery will help me obtain this. I understand that it's not a cure all, but a tool to work with. I don't plan on "falling off the wagon", but I also recognize that some days will be harder than others and I may want to eat. If and when that happens, all I can do is to get back on my feet. Isn't this what other people do? Now I'm afraid, what if this doesn't work either....
  23. One of the ads on this website is for TheBariatricGroup.com. Does anyone know anything about this group and their Mexico doctors? I want to do some research before I actually talk to them. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Brenda
  24. Thank you Grace for your response. It was helpful. I meet with my Primary tomorrow, so I'll have more information then. Congrats on meeting your goal :grouphug:
  25. Hi, I've been reading about post-op diet issues (depression, switching from clear liquids to liquids & mussies, etc). My question is, if I'm going to have the surgery with Dr. Rodriguez in Mexico, who or how will my post-op diet be monitored? I have a primary care doctor, but she's not a specialist in this area. What if I get so I can't handle the all clear liquid and need to do something else? I know that I am willing to do the work, but I'm concerned about being depressed, low energy, hungry all the time, etc. Thanks
