  1. Oh Carol, I'm so sorry! You will be in my thoughts and prayers for sure. What about the ulceration? Will that heal on it's own if the band is replaced in the proper position? My doc said that the majority of the time they can't pinpoint the reason for a slip, it just happens sometimes. Please keep us posted.
  2. Mom - I'm sorry to hear of your troubles as well. It's really scary out there right now. I will certainly keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your fill is successful and will help you get back on track as well. I'm also glad you are talking to someone. I don't know about you, but exercise is a great stress reliever for me. Of course, I need to listen to my own advice about that. I haven't run or anything since starting nursing school. I feel like if I'm not studying, I'm getting behind. The course load is so heavy. I just need to relax and do the necessary things that are healthy for me like exercise. Need to also practice what I preach! LOL! Today we're home because of the icy conditions, so it's a good day for me to start. Good luck to you and hope to hear from you again soon!
  3. Leslie - I'm so sorry to hear about your issues at home. I agree with everyone else that I can not tell you what to do. Of course my first reaction was to tell you to "kick his ass to the curb", but of course that is not good advice. You have children to think about first of all and besides he has to have some good qualities because you wouldn't have married him if he didn't. I will pray that you are able to take care of yourself the way you need to and of course those little girls. You really do have to think of yourself first in this situation because if you don't take care of your girls' mother, you can't take care of them. I will say, and I hope you don't mind, but your DH is a huge ass!! However, we all make mistakes and even though his one that you might not ever get over, you have to do what is right for you. I can't tell you I know how you feel, because I don't. I can only imagine. I've always said adultry was a "deal breaker", but now that I have kids I don't know. The good news is that the situation is in your hands, IMHO. When he cheated, he gave up his right to any control over how you feel or how long you need to grieve and get over it or deal with it, if you ever can- again, just my opinion. If he loves you and wants to make it right, he'll understand that and let you run the show. I also agree that you should probably talk to someone just to help you sort out how you really feel about the whole situation - what he did, reconciliation and what that means, etc. My heart goes out to you. My advice to you now - Reclaim your power and use it! And I'm not talking about your DH, I'm talking about you doing what you need to do to not only feel better about yourself, but to get back on track. We all hit walls, but we have to pull ourselves back out again. You can do it!! I know you can! You are a beautiful, smart, sassy woman who knows what she needs to do. Go ahead and do it, others be damned!! Good luck to you and please don't leave this site. I agree that it is a great place to feel a connection and a sense of belonging since everyone knows what you are going through with respect to your band. Have a great day!! P.S. I'm on the 5 day pouch test, starting today. I've been catching myself eating not only crap, but stress eating again. I feel out of control at the moment, so that is my first step in getting it back and then we'll see if I need a fill.
  4. Thanks so much! I'm really excited about finally getting started. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to stay awake so I can read! LOL! I'd love to chat sometime about nurse-y stuff. As soon as I get done with nursing school, I'll do the bridge to my BSN. I have a ton of hours and quite a few classes already done for that. Then, if I'm not dead from exhaustion, I'll get my MSN or NP. *sigh, looking longingly into the future* Good luck with classes. Talk to you soon!
  5. Amen Sister!! I'm so much happier this year, I can hardly stand myself! LOL! I'm not going to make 100 lbs lost by April either, but I don't even care anymore! I'm just happy with the journey. Way to go Brandy! YOu are doing so great! Hope everyone else is doing well. I've been lurking here and there. I haven't had a chance to catch up. I have one week of nursing school under my belt and am a little overwhelmed. It will get better when I get a good routine going. With all the reading, I hardly have time for anything else. Hope you all have a great week!!
  6. Vodka will have less sugar than say rum or most wines. Rum has a ton of carbs. Red wine is good for antioxidants and a dry wine has less sugar than a sweet wine. I prefer vodka and a lite mixer such as crystal light or light juice. Have a great time!!!
  7. Excellent! Keep up the great work and you'll be there before you know it!! Way to go!!
  8. Hey! Don't know if all of you guys have a Target store near you, but yesterday I bought several outfits for around $50. They were having an amazing sale. I bought the nicest dress for $7!! Granted it doesn't fit yet, but it will and for $7 it's worth it. Kohl's was also having a great sale this past weekend. It's rare to come across nice clothes at that much of a discount, so I took advantage. Especially since I could buy clothes that don't quite fit yet really cheap. I am also struggling to stay adequately hydrated. I noticed yesterday that my skin looks dry and wrinkly. I know it's from not drinking enough water. I've got to do better. I'm also loosing so slow now, probably doesn't help not drinking enough. Congrats Colorado! It feels great doesn't it? Have a great week everyone. I start nursing school tomorrow. YIKES! So, ready to get going!
  9. 9 Months and 57 pounds gone!!
  10. Since starting this journey I have always loved this thread. I couldn't wait to post. I thought I would do it at 6 months, then I decided I would do it when I lost 50 lbs, then I thought I'd do it when I hit 60 lbs down. I finally realized I might not ever feel like the time was exactly right. Everyone's "during" pics have been so motivational. So, here I am 9 months after banding and -57 pounds. I can't believe I'm posting "befores", but I supposed everyone has them. Before pics: 3/08 Start of pre-op diet During pics: Today
  11. Our really good friend lives just outside Detroit and just got laid off again, for the 3rd time in 8 years. He's coming to Texas next week for a job interview. He has two mortgages (the one he lives in and the one he has to rent out). His houses are worth more than $5K, but he can't get rid of them. If the job offer is good, we're hoping he will live with us for a while and get everything straightened out. It's bad in Detroit, really bad. I taped TBL and finally got to watch it tonight. If I were in her shoes I would have taken the money and gotten the band! That money might have made the difference in her life. I feel so bad for the orange guys. I know how horrible they feel and how hard it is to kick the habit of eating so bad. What was his family thinking, going to a place where all he could get was hot dogs and fries?!! I just hope Dan does well. He's so young and he needs to be there.
  12. WooooHoooo! Way to go! Congrats!!!
  13. Way to go!! Excellent, congrats! And Happy Birthday! I hit 189 today! YeeHaaaawwww!! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!

  15. Here's a thought: Your fiance could help you out here by drinking more Water. If he stays well hydrated it would probably thin out his bodily fluids plus it would be a health benefit to him.
  16. Congrats!!! I think I'll start on Monday. Yeah, I know famous last words.... I'm seriously thinking about ordering a pink stethoscope; however, it's more of a baby pink than hot pink, unfortunately. It's either that or teal or orange? Can't decide. Seriously? It's still on? I think the first one came on my senior year of high school. YIKES! Sorry you are stuck at work. I live in Texas and it does't ice over very often, but boy do I hate it when it does. I really don't think I could survive the winters you guys have. The older I get the more it hurts me. Sorry about the soup. I tried something like that the other day from Campbell's and it was disgusting! Today I'm making my own veggie soup full of lentils, veggies, and brown rice. I'm weird about chunks of veggies, so I puree mine. It tricks my mind into believing it's really rich, but it's not. However, it is loaded with Protein and nutrients. Whatever works.... P.S. Finally got a good night's sleep last night! YEAH!
  17. No prob! I'm glad it helped. Sometimes I'm afraid I come across as weird and wordy. I don't mean to be, I just like to help if I can. Believe it or not, once upon a time, I was a nutrition major. Once I get my nursing degree I hope to do something in that area where I can teach or educate. I love nutrition. I should I've spent most of my life worrying about it one way or another! LOL! Cubs - That's probably about right depending on your weight, height, and age. Mine is around 1200, but I still have some to loose. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate and it's based largely on weight/height ratio like BMI. And just like BMI, it doesn't take into account your lean muscle mass, etc. If you fill your diet with fruits and veggies, lean protein, low fat dairy, and whole grains it'll probably be hard to get in 1900 calories. As long as you are eating a well balanced diet I wouldn't worry too much about it. Of course you don't want to loose too much. At that point, I would talk to your doc to see what you need to do if you keep loosing below your goal weight. Also, if you up your activity level, don't forget to adjust for that. Hope you are all having a great day!!
  18. Keep in mind that on dailyplate normal, everyday people are entering those numbers. There's even one for worship, like going to church. LOL! You could figure out what your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is and then go from there. Your BMR figures the calories you burn at your weight, height, and age just by being alive. Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years ) Then if you wanted you could use the following formula to determine how many calories you should take in to maintain your current weight. Then subtract 500 calories per pound of weight you would like to loose per week. So for example if you want to loose 2 pounds per week, you would subtract 1000 calories. Keeping in mind that you shouldn't subtract more than a 1000 calories from your maitenance number simply because it isn't healthy. Harris Benedict FormulaTo determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows: If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2 If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375 If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55 If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725 If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9 So, long story short....you could probably then take the numbers you get and figure out what you burn per day at work give or take a few calories. I don't know if this helps or not or if this is way too much info.
  19. I'm so envious of people who get up early. It just seems more in tune with what we were supposed to do, I've just never been able to do it. Well...guess I better learn PDQ! LOL! Girl, I've already thought of that, but unfortunately it's not conducive to weight loss. I think I will have a glass of wine tonight though, just to relax a little. Maybe a glass of wine, a cup of sleepy time, one Tylenol PM, a run, and a warm shower. LOL! I know what you mean. Tuesdays are going to be 16 hour days for me this semester! :tt1: Thanks for all the advice! It's probably just going to have to work itself out. I have two weeks before it actually counts so until then, I'll just suffer through.
  20. Okay, I need your help. You guys are always so full of widsom and advice so I'm hoping you can help. First of all, I'm a night person. I get more done at night and would rather work that way; however, I start nursing school in two weeks and have to be up before 5 a.m. to get to clinicals several times a week. During the holidays I got totally out of whack staying up late and then sleeping in. My plan was to get back on track when my kids went back to school. So I thought I'd get up at 6 a.m. this week and then next week go to 5 a.m. to try to ease into it. It's not working!!! I haven't been able to sleep the last two nights. I was really tired last night since getting up early, but couldn't sleep. I tried one Tylenol PM and I slept worse and didn't feel rested at all. So who has an old family remedy or advice on how to switch back and get back into the swing of things. I feel terrrible today and have no energy. My head is killing me. I have tons of stuff to do, but I'm dragging! Thanks for your input!!
  21. Happy New Year All!! Please update me when you get a chance. 190.5/-56 Thanks!!
  22. Hey all! I'm sorry you are sick Brandy. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
