  1. This is a common problem for me as well, but I think it has more to do with the time of day than with the food itself. I have a hard time eating some things until about 2 p.m. I don't know why, but I guess my band is tighter during that time. I can pretty much eat whatever I want for dinner though. I had meatloaf the other night and it was delicious and went down just fine. I tried to eat it again for lunch the next day. It was still very moist and I added ketchup for good measure, but no luck. Didn't work at all. So, it's just something I've learned to live with and to expect and plan for.
  2. I've been banded almost 3 months and I still occasionally gurgle. Sometimes it's really loud and it never fails to be when I'm around people! LOL. My friends just take it in stride now. It's really fun when it does that sitting in church during prayer time. My new expression: "you could have heard a pin drop or my stomach gurgle"
  3. First and foremost for myself. I was tired of hating myself because I couldn't loose the weight. Plus, obesity related comorbidities were just around the corner for me. Secondly for my girls because I worried about them seeing me so down on myself. Also, I never wanted to do anything because of my weight. I want them to have a happy childhood and remember their mom doing stuff with them. Also, I'm very active at their school and I didn't want them to be embarrassed by my weight. My oldest daughter had to defend me in first grade because one of her peers made a comment about her "fat mother". That broke my heart. I haven't even lost 30 pounds yet, but the change is already amazing. I feel better, have more energy, and am my old confident self. I still have a long way to go, but I'll get there having fun!
  4. My surgeon had me mark on myself with a marker where my bra, etc hit so he could make sure to put the port in a place that wouldn't hurt. Everything fits so much better now, but that's the first place I loose for some reason. I have to double bra when exercising or playing softball. Otherwise, I'd knock myself out!! LOL.
  5. Everyone's doing so great! Way to go!! Keep up the good work! I lost another 1.5 and I'll take it. 6. I always feel kinda bad following a fill. Mine is more of a bloated, gassy, uncomfortable feeling. I feel this way for a day or two and then it goes away. I also usually have to be on liquids for a while. If you are still feeling bad and are worried, give your doc a call. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!
  7. Mine wants only liquids the day of a fill. He's so strict about it that if he finds out you've eaten, he won't do the fill. So, call your doc so you know exactly what he requires.
  8. Ah, of course. Thanks Mike!
  9. I agree with everything you guys have said; although, I have no idea what OH is. I'm assuming you are not talking about the state of Ohio. LOL.
  10. Wow! Everyone is doing so great. I've had three fills. Third time is the charm for me. I finally feel really good restriction. In fact, I'm having to re-learn what I can and can't eat. It's totally changed since having this last fill. So, I'm here to say it does finally kick in!! Good luck everyone!
  11. I have really bad allergies and had a problem with being too tight and throwing up everything I tried to eat. I got scared because I started having really bad reflux and pain. Thankfully, there was nothing wrong with my band. My doc told me to take some allergy meds and musinex to get rid of the excess mucus. I was almost completely better in about a day and didn't need an unfill. I was even able to have my scheduled fill the next week. So, talk to your doc to see if there is anything you can take to help get you through this. Good luck and keep us posted.

  13. Everyone is so different it will be hard to gage what you will be able to eat and what you won't. I'm finding that after my 3rd fill, some things are changing again. It's a learning experience most of the time for me. I can't eat any kind of chicken except really moist chicken salad. But I can eat steak, brisket, and hamburger. The steak has to be cooked med or med/rare. Shrimp and fish go down well too. It depends on what kind of bread and what time of the day it is. Usually toasted bread is easier, but never for Breakfast. I can't eat french fries and now I can't eat tator tots either. I can eat potato salad and mashed potatoes as long as it is really soft. I can't eat fried rice, but rice in Soups is okay. I can eat one piece of shushi as long as I chew it really well and don't have anything else with it. (I know, doesn't sound worth it but I loooovvveee sushi and miss it) Normally I can eat eggs, but I tried a bite of my kids eggs a little while ago and it didn't stay down. I'm not sure if it's because I've had a fill and now I can't eat eggs or because I hadn't had my morning coffee yet. I usually can't eat breakfast until I've had a couple of cups of coffee and not until 10 a.m. or so.
  14. Treadmill today: interval incline and speed 4 min warm-up jogging the entire 41 minutes! You know I have to make myself get on and I sort of drag my feet most days, but it feels so good when you are done!!!
  15. You guys all ROCK! I didn't make it yesterday as I didn't feel to whippy last night. I had my 3rd fill yesterday and I always feel kind of yucky! Yeah, I know excuses, excuses. It was only the 2nd day and I've already missed! I'll make up for it today though!! Whosya you are killin me! I can't keep up with ya so I'm going to stop trying! LOL. You are doing great! Good luck on your tri tomorrow! I can't wait to see your result!
  16. Done for today!! Treadmill 15 min/ 4.0/ 3.0 incline/.75 mi 30 min Interval/ 3.5 - 4.0/ 3.0 - 5.0 incline/1.60 mi
  17. I'm in! I hope to drop another size this month plus increase my stamina and distance. I'm pledging 60 miles this month. Good Luck everyone!
  18. Lynne - That is so awesome! I love reading stories like yours. Getting healthy is such a wonderful gift. Congrats!!!
  19. I use fat free ranch or lite vidalia onion sometimes. It's pretty good, but not as good as mayo in my opinion. I've also done low-fat plain yogurt with a chutney of some kind like mango. That's yummy!
  20. Whosya - yeah, I know what you mean. We have a mixed league, "boy-girl-boy-girl". Some of the "boys" try to be bossy, but I'm an extremely outspoken southern woman and I don't let them get away with that. Everyone that loves me knows that about me and they just laugh it off. I've already ticked a few people off because they don't know me very well nor do they get my warped sense of humor. Our "coach" is a woman. She's played for years so she's fair. We have tall people, thin people, fat people, short people. And most important, we all suck compared to a competitive league and we all make mistakes. Now I will say that some of the "boys" can knock it out of the park, but most of them missed balls last night. I may not be fast, but I didn't let anything get by me, so they can just all lump it if they don't like it!!! LOL I may suck, but I have a lot of heart and I don't quit. Amen and now I'm done with my sermon, Ill get off my soapbox, check in next week for another episode!! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!     One thing you should know about me is that nothing makes me madder than someone being excluded because of how they look or what they have or whatever!! Sorry...I always fight for the "underdog" so to speak. I'm extremely lucky to have found my church home. We've only been there 1 1/2 years and before that we were at a church where appearance was everything. I don't play that game. If I like you -I like you, it doesn't matter if you live in a mansion or in a cardboard box. I really am sorry that you've had that experience. Your church should be your sanctuary and you should feel at home, everywhere.... which includes softball. Those people are just ugly and it's their loss, not yours. Find a league if that makes you happy or just keeping triathaloning (is that a word? Ha!). Life's too short to deal with crap like that! Hope to talk to you soon!!
  21. That stinks Whosya! I can't believe that a church team would be so blatant about not calling you. I mean, really, what happened to accepting all people? Yeah, the hell with 'em, you are awesome. I'm playing on my church team as well. We are just playing for fun too, but we have a couple of @$$'s as well. They think they can tell me what to do in the field and then those people were saying "wow, you are a great player, I had no idea". I was like "do you have to sound so surprised?". Sheesh! Just because I'm bigger than when I used to play doesn't mean I've lost my ability. It just means I'm a little slower than I used to be. Besides, I'm one of the younger players on the team. Most everyone else is either pushing 40 or already past. We've already had 4 injuries and last night was our first game. At least I haven't wimped out yet!! LOL Besides that, my butt is on the treadmill almost every day! Just keep doin' your thang, my friend! It's their loss!!! Tell em to kiss your much smaller butt!!!
  22. Okay, I know this is a running thread, but I'm really pumped and I had to share with people who will understand. We had our first softball game tonight. Now realize that we are a "just for fun" team and play in a league of other non competitive teams. Anyway, I wasn't sure how we would do and we did awesome! We didn't win, but we went into overtime. I had two hits!!! The first one I made it home, but the person behind me got the last out. The next one I would have made it (and it would have been the winning point, by the way) if I'd had 10 more pounds off!! LOL. It was so close. I realized as I was running home (all the way from first base mind you) that the other guy was going to beat me to home plate. I momentarily thought about sliding, but was afraid I'd really hurt myself! LOL. Anyway, it was close! We had a blast! The best part is that I'm playing sports again and I didn't embarrass myself! I've dreamed of doing this again! I played sports since I was 12 and for the last 10 years I've had to give it up! Not anymore baby!!!! Sorry to go on and on, but I'm so stoked!!! Running the bases, whoop-whoop!! :blushing: Anyway, thanks for listening!!!
  23. Thanks Whosya! Wow, 28 minutes! That's great! You must be really proud of yourself as you should! And a 10K to boot before 8 a.m. You rock!!
  24. I think it depends on the person when it comes to gas pain after surgery. I have friends who didn't have any probs at all. I thought I was going to die for a few weeks after surgery. The surgical pain was almost non-existent, but the gas pain was excruciating. So, I know how you guys feel. The bright side is that it does eventually get better. I still have some probs with gas occasionally, but nothing like the weeks following surgery. I do however have really bad bloating and gassy feeling for a couple of days following fills. Again, most people don't have any probs with fills. I guess we are just the lucky ones who have those kinds of probs. Try not to get too frustrated, it does get better!! Congrats on your surgery. Even with the gas pains, I would do it again and again if I had to. It's been the best thing I've ever done!!!
