Finally!
Wow - there aren't many people hanging out in here anymore. I'm STILL a slow loser - down 34 lbs at my 1 year mark. I'm okay with that - I work out with a trainer twice a week and am in the gym on my own three other days out of the week. Do I wish I lost more quickly? OF COURSE! But slow and steady wins the race

Excess Skin
Hopefully all my working out will have some good results. I don't see any trace of sagging skin yet, but I'm still a good 70-80 higher than my goal of 150-160. I carry a lot of weight in my hips and butt though, so I'd like to lose THAT. For the person who asked - I'm 5'5, and my highest was 254. I got down to 219 last year and didn't see any extra skin then, either. Well, I'll just cross my fingers!

Excess Skin
Hello! I am 23 and am working on losing 90-100 lbs. I work out 4-5 days a week doing cardio/toning/weights, and would like to know if anyone has lost this amount and NOT had the extra skin. All I hear about are those with it - as I'm said, I'm in my early 20s and want to enjoy the rest of my twenties wearing cute clothes and swimsuits! I also take Vitamins and drink lots of Water - any thoughts?

St. Louis People
Hi all! I'm also a St Louisan - I was banded in Denver with Dr. Kirshenbaum because BJC's insurance doesn't cover WLS. :wink2: I've lost nearly 20 lbs - I had a rough start, as I wasn't getting any restriction, but boy let me tell you - after I got my second fill, it's been amazing! The weight literally drops off...with my first and second fills, I lost...3 lbs! THREE! But now, I've lost another 14 in the last month, so I'm a happy girl. I'd love to get to know some StL bandsters a little better - because my surgery was so far away, I don't have an actual support group, rather just what's on here. Good luck everyone!

Just Moving in...
Hey girl, I had the lapband on April 16th, also against the wishes of most of my family. In fact, I wasn't planning on telling them, but my stepmom went and let the proverbial cat out of the bag, and I came home from the hospital amidst nasty phone calls from irate family members. What I've learned in my experience is that it is YOUR life and YOUR decision. I am SO happy that I decided to do it - I'm down 14 lbs (now that I hit my sweet spot! YES!), and am so happy. I am looking forward to the day I fly home (Family is in Pennsylvania, I'm in Missouri) at a size 10-12, and see the looks on their faces. Good luck with everything!

Either the band or me is not working! :(
Hello all! Not too long ago I was in the same boat you all are floating in. I was banded on April 16th, 2008, and during my pre-op phase had only lost about 4 lbs. My doctor was disappointed, but after surgery, he said my liver looked excellent and that I must just be a slow loser. Well, after surgery I found out just HOW slow I am! Between the surgery (April 16) and my last fill (July 10th), I lost a grand total of..... 3 lbs. Are you KIDDING me?! I was so discouraged - I was self pay, and will be paying it off for five years, and that was all I had lost?!?!?! Come on now. So, despite the fact that I had a band, and I was eating healthy and walking a lot, I was down less than I could do on my own in four months. Since my band on July 10th, I've lost another 11 lbs. I'm down 14 now, and hoping for 18 by the end of the week. I can't say that it was definatly my fill, but I also just measured out small amounts of food and told myself that was all I can have. (Because you can stretch and shrink that pouch, remember!) I would do everything I could to stretch out my dinner time - getting up and getting something from another room, watching a little television and then coming back to my meal, etc. I just resigned myself to eating over a period of 30-40 minutes (Not easy when you're a busy nurse!), and that I could only eat a little. Now I find that I'm not that hungry, and if I eat too quickly, my stomach feels bloated. I am now eating the Jenny Craig meals, which are great because the sodium is low and they're healthy, as well as I go in once a week for an "official" weigh in, rather than my own scale. It will pass. I promise. This coming from someone who thought, "My gosh, I'm a diet loser, and now I'm a lapband loser?!" *hugs* and good luck! My mantra? Progress, not perfection.

Finally!
Hello all! It's been a while since I posted and I've had a few (minor!) setbacks! One, I didn't get to my sweet spot very quickly - and two, I ended up on crutches for a while for a ACL cyst - YUCK! But I'm finally at a point where I am cleared to exercise, and since my last fill (July 10th) I'm down 6.2 lbs. Thank goodness! I was starting to think that I was a big non-loser. My MD was great about it - I followed the pre-op diet to a T and only lost 3-4 lbs - I'm just a slow, slow loser. But even if it's slow, it's still progress, right? It's so much more encouraging to see the scales moving downward instead of staying stuck at 251!

St. Louis People
Hello, all! My name is Charity, I'm 23 and was banded on 4/16/08. I have lost (to date since surgery) 7 lbs. I finally have some restriction! HOORAY! I was so frustrated before because I had only lost 3 lbs...now since my last fill two weeks ago, I'm down 4. I guess I've truly hit my sweet spot! I'm a summer camp nurse and have been trying to watch the junk I eat here. I have been eating the Protein of the meal (if it's not fried, breaded, etc), and a nice big salad with lots of veggies and added meat in it. I also use the Jenny Craig salad dressing instead of the regular. I actually went to Denver to have my surgery with Dr. Kirshenbaum. He was a fabulous surgeon - I went there because my BJC insurance didn't cover it. :cool2: I had to fight to even get half of it reimbursed through flexible spending! *sigh* Anyway. As I said, I'm 23, I'm a pediatric RN at Children's, and live in South City. I would love to find a group of bandsters in my neighborhood or area to start walking with a few nights a week. I work on Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, so I'm free Tues-Fri. I am sadly lacking in the exercise department, and I know that having someone kick my butt has worked for me in the past. So, hello! I'm glad that I found some St. Louisans to join me on my journey!

Slow Losers Unite!
Thanks for the input. WHen I diet, I tend to lose 2-3 lbs per week, regardless of how I eat. I did Jenny Craig for a few months before I got banded and consistently lost that much. Trust me, I have a lot to lose! :tongue_smilie: Good luck!

Slow Losers Unite!
Hello! I was banded on 4/16 and am down a grand total of....7 lbs. *sigh* I am a very slow loser as well. I just had my second fill last week and am finally getting a good amount of restriction. I now have a goal of losing 3 lbs per week until the end of July. I am going to follow this diet to a T and drink all my Water...and hopefully I won't be a slow loser for long! It is SO frustrating though...knowing that I was a self pay and am going to be paying for five years on a surgery that I haven't seen much by way of results. :tongue_smilie:

Fills, Camping, Gr!
Hello! It's been a while, but I have been so busy I haven't had time to write, although I pop in frequently. I was banded on 4/16, lost about 7 lbs post-op, and had my first fill on 5/29, so today was my first full day of being filled. (I think he did like...2 cc's. I don't recall the exact number) So, this morning I ate a bowl of Cereal and was fine - lunch was sloppy joe meat and a banana, and dinner was a piece of turkey, veggies, and a little bit of potatoes. (I'm a camp nurse, so I eat what they've got) I had a tiny piece of cake...and only ate two bites! I was so happy that I was full! YAY! And here I am, 4 hours later and not a bit hungry, although I'm fighting the boredom eating right now. I have to get up early for work, so I think I'll just go to bed rather than eat. The only problem is...meal times are only a half hour, so I'm always the last one at the table! I'm going to have to start keeping those tuna packs in my cabin (uh oh...contraband!) and eat those before dinner and then just eat the veggies for dinner in the mess hall. Healthy AND still participating! Good luck all!

Blood test Hgb A1c
The A1C is a measure of how high your blood glucose has been running for the last three months. It would be possible to drop it a little in one month, but I would think more along the lines of three or so. To average out signifigantly lower, you would have to keep your blood sugar somewhere around 80-90 at all times, which is pretty much impossible, even if you're eating very healthy, as glucose rises after eating. I'm surprised your doc said he'd test again in one month! Watch your carbs and sugars - my best advice is to get into contact with a nutritionist and have them set up a diet plan for you. Good luck!

Banded 4/24/08 - Newbie
Hey there. I was banded on 4/16 and just am now getting back on a regular BM schedule. I still am not getting enough Water in, although I try! So I attribute it to lack of water, pain meds, and what I was eating. (Lots of cottage cheese for extra protein). You could try a suppository (Dulcolax or similar) to get things moving and then take a daily Fiber supplement. Or you could wait it out like I did. When I finally DID go, I felt SO much better. (And my weight that had been gradually creeping back up went back down!)
