  1. Hi Everyone! I am about 6 weeks out and went to the doc today for my first fill. I was all psyched up for it. He examined me and noted that since my weight loss was just over 20 lbs in the six week period, he would not fill me and just keep an eye on me. I have had quite a bit of belching and he suspects I may be too tight (reflux?). According to him, I only had 2 ccs put in my 10cc band at the time of surgery. In the meantime, he has scheduled me for an upper GI. and a quick return appointment. Has this happened to someone else? I am concerned because I am reading about others of you with 5 or more cc's in the band and not being too tight. Tammygirl
  2. I too have United and the process was as smooth as ice and very fast. I wish you the very best! Tammygirl
  3. how big was your hernia and what did they do to fix it? Is it possible to have a hernia where the band goes so that you wouldn't be able to get banding? so many questions lol Wicked, Don't have many answers for you. I knew I had a hernia (medium size, according to another doc) prior to surgery and told the doc about it. He did an endo and told me "no big deal, I'll fix it." I do not know all the ins and outs of the repair but I do know I got the bill:smile:. I think every doc is different. Some are more willing to work with various sized hernias than others. Good Luck to you!
  4. I have had a similiar issue. Since banding, I cough a lot. I had hernia repair during my banding and prior to banding had reflux. I was removed from Nexium after surgery. My nurse suggests that I have still have reflux and should go back on Nexium. I have not had my first fill yet. Hoping that this issue resolves as more weight is lost.
  5. Hey AT! Congratulations on your path to better health! I was banded April 28. My doc states that until the first fill, healing, not weight loss is the objective. Some folks lose a lot a first and some don't. You are still in the very early stages. Hang on in there! Tammygirl:thumbup:
  6. Hey! I was banded in Augusta 4/28/08 by Dr. Blaney. I live in Aiken, SC. Nice to see you all here! Tammygirl
  7. Thank you for this thread. I am about 3 wks post op. The first 2 weeks I was on liquids and felt no hunger. This past week, since I have started on mushies, I have been hungry enough to eat 3 cows and their mama. I thought I was the only one. Thank you for the reassurance and encouragement that this will pass and I must just press on. I have my first post op visit in the office tomorrow. Tammygirl
  8. CB, hurting people hurt people. I am so sorry you have been hurt. I pray for your continued physical healing and the beginning of your emotional healing. To the original poster, Hang in there and welcome back! Tammygirl
  9. My sincere sympathy to you and your family. Thank you for taking the time to inform us of important information that may save a life. God be with you all. Tammygirl
  10. I agree with TD. Review your 5 year history very carefully and document each and every weight loss attempt and results. Document family health history as well. I would not seek to gain weight. You are fortunate to have no comorbidities. Hopefully, surgical intervention can prevent them. Good Luck to you! Tammygirl
  11. I went to work at a desk job a week post op and worked half days for another week. I feel good. Wishing you the very best during your procedure. Tammygirl
  12. I fasted about 12 hours before surgery.
  13. How fortunate you are to have such a great family behind you! Congratulations!:biggrin2: Tammygirl
  14. I don't know about that one, JRT:rolleyes2:. I am 50 and did not have a pre-op diet. You are not that far ahead of me and I can not imagine what could happen to a liver in 3 short years:huh2:. Any hoo, I suppose it's all good and the most important thing is that we are able to have the surgery and get going on being healthier. The best to you! Tammygirl
  15. Hi LaLa! Bring your own lunch prepared per your doctor's orders. With the economy the way it is, nobody questions folks bringing their lunch. Use attractive containers and smile! If you have to go out to a business luncheon, choose the foods your doctor OKs for you and don't forget to ask for that take out box! Tammygirl
  16. Congratulations, Lala! I am told that weight loss is very individual for this surgery. My doctor told me that some people do not begin to lose until after the first fill, others begin to lose immediately. I am about 2 weeks post op and have lost 23 lbs. I am noticing a difference in the way some of my clothes fit, however, because of my initial weight, I do not expect others to notice until I have lost more than 50 lbs or so. The very best to you! Tammygirl
  17. Good For You! Congratulations!
  18. CONGRATULATIONS!
  19. My doctor did not require a pre-op diet and I suffered no complications related to the liver etc. I was concerned but am about 2 weeks post op and feeling great. Every doctor is different in his/her approach to this surgery. Follow your physician's guidelines for he/she has considered you as an individual case with individual needs. Wishing you the very best! Tammygifl
  20. Nana, I can identify with your sentiment of being neither scared or excited as I approached surgery. I had tried everything else for so many years, I was just numb. I was banded April 28. I am about 2 weeks post op and feeling great! My husband, once skeptical of the procedure, has turned out to be my biggest support. He is also morbidly obese and has begun the process toward lapband surgery. I wish you the very best as you move toward a healthier you. Stay with this support board. I have learned so much and know that you are not alone.
  21. Moe, Losing weight is very personal and the process takes as long as it takes. That means that your weight should be no ones elses concern except your own. Are you seeking surgery to save your job? Losing the jerks on the job usually takes no longer than a 2 week notice. That's pretty good turn around time in my book! Much success to you as move toward a healthier you.:smile2: Tammygirl
  22. You may consider contacting African American health professional organizations such as the National Black Nurses Association, National Medical Association, Chi Eta Phi, etc. Another resource may be schools of nursing or medicine at historically black colleges/universities. Good Luck! Tammygirl
  23. Welcome to Bandlandia! So glad to hear of your positive experience. I was banded in Augusta, GA 4/28 and also had a good experience. Wishing you the very best recovery as you move forward to better health! Tammygirl:thumbup:
  24. Hi Christy! I have tried unjury and love it! My favorite flavors are the chocolate and vanilla. Tastes like a good milkshake! I was banded 4/28. Congrats to you!
