  1. Indiogirl, CONGRATS! YOU have inspired all of us! I am getting excited about jumping on the bandwagon with you . I have pre-op with Dr. Davis on monday and start my liquid diet. I have alot more to lose than you, but I am ready to start a new life. Come on JULY 16th.
  2. CONGRATULATIONS! That is awesome!
  3. YIPPEE! My band date is July 16th. I just purchaseed my pre-op liquid diet from Bariatric Advantage. I hope it tastes good. I start on it July 2nd. I am ready for this new journey!
  4. jbflorida....THANKS! ....for the word of encouragement. This is my daughter's first and I want to be there for her like is was for the other children.
  5. Thanks....IndioGirl, for reminding me of the binder. Yes, I have a whole folder of foods. It was the last class I took in April. The nurse called today....changed my surgery date from July 9th to July16th. Two weeks before the surgery I have to start a liquid diet. My new grandbaby is due August 17th. I want to be recovered by then.
  6. Kareyquilts, I noticed you have almost reached your goal. How many calories do you eat a day? I am a stash hound too. I love fabric as much as food. Maybe, after the surgery, I will get some of those tops quillted because I sure don't need to transfer my eating addiction to buying fabric.....no room.
  7. Thanks for the input. I am glad you are back on track. My son lost 120 in a year and then fell off the "bandwagon" and gained forty lbs back. He is back on track too. It definitely is not a fix. Just a tool to help us stay on track.
  8. Thanks! Indiogirl gave me some websites ....I have ordered samples. I guess I know about the protein drinks....does the liquid period have to be clear liquids? and do we have to add protein to chicken broth?
  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Lynlyn, I am getting banded July 9th. Reading this thread has calmed my nerves about the surgery. All the the bandsters are so helpful. I am looking forward to sharing and caring with you and all the others that have joined. Hi Kareyquilts....Welcome! Do you quilt? I am a newbie quilter....takes my mind off of food. I plan on using that tool too after I am banded. Question. What are some the liquids I should buy for the first few days? My son drank Gatorade, but I haven't heard of anyone else drinking it.
  10. Indiogirl, THANKS!...for the 411....those sound like some good shakes....I will try them. Hey, Bandsters, I will ask Dr. Garth about the show at my next appointment. I should be going at the end of this month for pre-op.
  11. Yeah, the Davis' are the best. They are on The Learning Channel here. I didn't see them this week. What channel is Montel Williams on now?
  12. Yeah, my husband was a cradle robber...lol....no...our aniversary is Dec '69. You know....the Vietnam Era. He was in the service and wanted to get married before being shipped out a second time. Anyway, we have survived. I really want to lose 75 and with this liquid diet I'll be on ....it will help. Hey, I just ordered some samples of Unjury....is that good stuff?
  13. He is on THE LEARNING CHANNEL. You can find it on cable or satellite. It is called BIG MEDICINE. The last time I saw it was May 18th. I don't know if it is showing now.
  14. I don't know. I have only seen Dr Garth. I would think it would be him and one of the other doctors on his team. I know of two other doctors that work with them. He is the only bariatric doctor I have been to, but they have a huge practice. I went to a seminar in January where there were at least 100 people. Then after the seminar I signed up for nutrition classes which I completed on April 28. I had been waiting for approval till yesterday. Today I got a surgery date. It's all good now!
  15. Oh,those days of being 150.....let me see....1985....Yes, those were the days and I will have those days again. I admire you. Don't quit posting. We all need you! When I start my liquid diet I will figure out the ticker thingy. I have more to lose than you did. My husband and I have booked a cruise in April '09 . We are going to cruise the Hawaiian Islands for our 40th aniversary. I would love to lose at least 75lbs by then. We started our life together in Hawaii and I weighed 117 in 1969. I think my leg weighs 117now....lol. Anyway, I have a goal to shoot for and I will try to accomplish it.
  16. No, I won't be on tv....I not one of the unique cases. Dr. Davis is as nice in person as on TV. He really has a passion to help those with obesity. The psychologist is really sweet. She gave me her email address and said to contact her anytime I had a question. She did say that I must stay in a support group or I WOULD have a relapse. I believe her. My son lost 120 lbs two years ago with a lap band and then did not get a fill for six months or more. He has gained 40lbs. So, like they say, it is just a TOOL. I plan to have y'all as a support group and stay in a group at Methodist Weight Management.
  17. HALLELUJAH! I have a surgery date.....July 9th. Dr. Garth Davis will be banding me. Now I have to go in for pre-op and pick up a two week liquid diet. I am so excited to start this journey. I went to my orthopedic surgeon today to see if I could get a cortisone injection in my back before surgery. He said no. It would compromise my immune system. A disc in my lower back does not have any cushion, but he said as I lose weight and strengthen my core muscles my back pain should improve. This surgery is all about my health. It is not just my back....it is sleep apnea, gerd, feet problems. I am ready for a NEW ME! Thanks to all of you...... I now feel more confident in my decision.
  18. Thank you, I will ask. I go to the orthopedic tomorrow.....I need an injection before surgery so I can be more active after surgery. The kind of injection I get is called an epidural cortisone injection.
  19. Thanks,Indiogirl..... I have been marking all the good websites you gave for protein shakes. I think my doctor wants us to drink optifast for two weeks. I'll know when they call me back. I am so excited and scared at the same time.
  20. YIPPEE! I got approval from my insurance. Now I need to call and get a date. I am going to be bugging y'all with a ton of questions. I lood forward to being a part of the bandster journey. First question. Do any of you get cortisone injections for herniated discs? Does it effect the band?
  21. Yvonne, CONGRATULATIONS! I have been watching the posts of all the new bandsters and all of you encourage me. I haven't heard from the doctors since I finished the nutrition class on April 28th. I hope I hear this week.
  22. Thanks!.....I needed to know about the Miralax. In the past, I had several bouts of diverticulitis, so those kind of things concern me. I know the lap band will be the start of a new healthy life. I only wish I had done it years ago.
  23. Thanks, Becky, for all the 411.....I did not know there were books on lap band. I will check out Amazon. I bookmarked all websites given by Indiogirl. I still do not have a surgery date. I finished all the prerequisites three weeks ago....all in good time. The process takes longer than I anticipated. One thing I haven't seen talked about is constipation. The doctor said I could still take Miralax. I wonder if anyone has had a problem taking it. If it gets stuck????? Do you know?
  24. AMEN!,Fluffycat......I too, am awaiting a surgery date. I look forward to sharing and caring with you and all these wonderful bandsters.
  25. Indiogirl, CONGRATULATIONS! on reaching your goal! I am awaiting a surgery date and to read your good news encourages me. I appreciate all the good advice on this thread.
