I am 4 days out from surgery. I had my drain removed today. The doctor wants me to have at least 1-3 Protein shakes a day. I had problems getting them down pre op and experimented with different flavors and brands. I just tried to get one swallow in and I gagged and heaved and vomited so violently I popped a stitch in my wound. I have this reaction every time. My family is telling me go to yogurt and egg whites since my doctor told me to do that next Friday. I am afraid it is too soon. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm tired of vomiting. My dietician is the one telling me I have to do one a day or I'll be in the hospital with a pic line. I think they think I'm being picky but I'm not. I had trouble with these pre op. I can get Water, Jello, even the tart tasting multi Vitamins in with no problem. I have no idea what to do. I called back this evening and was informed my doctor is gone until July 11. I saw my Dr and my Nut today. They both said I have to get one in or I would be in the hospital with a pic line. I dont know what it is with the shakes. I couldn't hardly do one a day pre op so I ate one small meal a day so I wouldn't feel bad ( I work outside in GA heat). I think my NUT and Dr. Think I'm just being picky but I swear I'm not. I'm so upset about this. Water, Jello, sugar free pops are all fine. They said vomiting is due to dehydration and it will go away one I can hold 3 bottles of water a day. I am having difficulty with tastes. I can't take pain med or protien shakes because I just get so sick and dry heave. I'm afraid of my incisions busting open from having so hard. My surgery was Monday and the shakes are a big problem. They are too thick. Even tried the powdered one with Water. I gag and hack foam every time I try to down some. I'm ready to eat a scrambled egg. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thanks. The hospital ended up giving me something called unjury which was better but I'm just not a happy camper this early into it. I get my drain removed tomorrow. Not looking forward to that either. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
