  1. Neither the caramel nor the banana ones are here at my Costco yet, well, at least not two days ago when I checked. I might have to try out that caramel one. I haven't liked the fruity flavored ones and vanilla is too bland so it would be nice to have something else other than chocolate.
  2. I mostly went minimalist. Brought a clean set of clothes, phone charger and a handheld game console. Didn't really need anything else.
  3. I liked the 100 calorie chocolate ones a lot. They have 25 grams of protein. Would have those for breakfast some days before surgery and used them through my pre-op diet. I haven't had any after, though. My surgeon and nutritionist told me not to drink them afterwards. They advised me not to have any protein powders or shakes with extra vitamins. I've been using EAS shakes. They go for something like $26 on Amazon for 12 of them or $8 in Target for 4. Kind of expensive, but I like them. My nutritionist wasn't happy that they were 7 carbs, but was happy that I was able to tolerate them. Too many of the pre-made shakes have a bit of a tinny taste to me and this one didn't have it.
  4. That is true for me, too. I don't go to my local thrift stores. Not to sound rude, but most of the people here where I live aren't going to give things away that are in good enough shape for me to want to buy them. When I go down to Hampton Roads in VA, though, I destroy some thrift stores. Always manage to come out with a bag or two of mostly like-new or new name brand stuff. I am also a big clearance shopper. Stores like JCPenney's and Macy's have awesome clearance sections. Found a bunch of shirts for like $5-10 last time I went.
  5. I've never had any adverse reactions to any of the protein drinks. I've probably tried at least a dozen (sometimes have to grab one from a gas station because warm protein drinks = ewwwww). I've never gotten nauseous either. I started using them a year ago for breakfast on recommendation of my nutritionist. I don't like eggs and she wanted me getting protein in the morning so it seemed like a good alternative.
  6. Was 13 days for me (5 days before, 8 days after). My doctor suggested Miralax so I bought some on the way home from the appointment. Never got to take it because the next morning all was right in my world. Now it's like every 4-5 days. My doctor said this was going to be normal until I started taking in something other than protein shakes and other liquids.
  7. I've got another 10 days before I enter the puree stage (exactly four weeks after surgery). Picked up a new crock pot because my other one is a 2 gallon unit and I definitely don't need anything that big now. $12 for a two-quart crock pot at Target. Really looking forward to some chicken. Before surgery I was kind of a hot sauce snob. I have about 15 bottles around the house. Couldn't bring myself to throw them out (well except for the one that was super-sugary). Hoping they get to see the light of day again sometime.
  8. Born and raised in Cape May County, but haven't lived there since I graduated high school. I actually made a special trip up before my surgery so I could have a few of my favorites from the boardwalk: Macks Pizza and some Curly's.
  9. My surgery was at 8am and I was out at 8-9pm the next day. They said I would have left a bit earlier but my potassium was high so they kept me around a few more hours.
  10. I had the hardest time getting out of bed today. When I did, my eyesight was blurry and kept seeing "stars" in like 50% of my normal vision. Went to take my meds and check my sugar - 52. I've never seen it this low. Took a glucose tab and everything is fine now, but still feel a little off. Before my surgery, I was taking Humalin, Humalog and Metformin. Doctor took me completely off of the latter two pretty much. Think its time for a new appointment because I think the Humalin needs to be adjusted next. Over the last week I've seen my morning numbers go from 100-115 to 75-90.
  11. My team highly recommended Crystal Light post-surgery. They even suggested mixing my protein powder in it. Haven't tried that yet, though. Within a day or two I was drinking two 20oz bottles of Crystal Light Fruit Punch a day and never experienced any kind of adverse effects.
  12. Just a small win, but it made me super happy. Stopped wearing a few pairs of jeans I loved because they were a little too snug and uncomfortable. Not only can I wear them fine now, but they are actually sagging and loose in the waist. I'm glad to be able to wear them again, even if it is only for a short while, potentially.
  13. Two weeks out tomorrow. Feeling a lot better, but still fighting my energy levels. I've had no problems keeping anything down so I've been able to meet my 70-80 gram protein quota. My biggest problem is that I really want something other than protein shakes. For four weeks now I've lived on shakes, popsicles, jello and any non-carbonated, non-caffeinated sugar-free beverages. Two more weeks before my next appointment. Doctor says I'll graduate to "soft proteins" then. Happy with the progress, though. It is what makes this all worth it. Down a little more than 30lbs since I started the liquid diet.
  14. At my one week post-op appointment, my doctor told me we would talk about going back to work at my next appointment, three weeks later. That seems like a rather long time. Thankfully I am a student, and the surgery date fell very close to the beginning of my summer break. I couldn't imagine taking off four weeks of work for any reason at my last job.
  15. @@KS611 It didn't hurt at all. I was actually shocked about that. There was a weird cramping sensation but I wasn't in any form of pain or discomfort.
  16. I'm one of those people who weigh in every day. This close out from surgery the pounds are just falling off. When I see that number drop by one or two every day or so it is a great motivation to keep going. Once that starts to slow I'll probably change that, but for now it is a great source of joy.
  17. I had mine June 9th. Spent one night in the hospital and was out 9pm the next day. At first I felt pretty crappy, but within a few days I was off of the pain medication. I had a drain for a week. It was a little uncomfortable and prevented me from sleeping on my right side which meant minimal sleep. Once that got removed I felt a whole lot better. Getting frustrated with my diet, though. They have me on four weeks of full liquids (should be three, but couldn't get an appointment any closer to the 3 week mark.. ugh). With the 2 week pre-op diet I lost 15lbs. Since surgery I've lost an additional 15lbs. Can't argue with those numbers, I guess. Just looking forward to something that isn't a protein shake, Crystal Light, Popsicle or Jello though.
