Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
The above poster that you replied to is only giving you a reason why you might not be losing enough weight. Not all doctors are 100% right. You asked us why you're having a stall, and taking in so many calories might be the reason. 1200 calories was the amount of calories I would have to take in to lose weight WITHOUT the gastric sleeve. That's to keep me from starving since my stomach is big. The point of having the sleeve is to shrink your stomach in order to be able to handle a low calorie diet (i.e. 500-800 calories). Most gastric sleeves are performed in a way that only allows you to hold a 4 oz meal. If you feel that your dietician is doing the right thing, then go for it. But remember, you asked us why you're having a stall. We are giving our opinion.

Day 5 of Pre-OP Liquid Diet
You go girl!! I'm just ending my pre-op diet. I'm a shorty too! I noticed I am breathing better since I've lost 15lbs since I started with the POD. My doctor allowed me to have one small meal a day with two shakes so I didn't feel to bad. AND yes, the whole peeing every 30 mins is annoying! But as everyone else has said on here it's all means to an end. I'm really happy for you and I hope all goes well. Keep us posted! That's awesome! Congrats on losing 15 pounds! Haha, glad I'm not the only one who lives in the bathroom. XD I will definitely keep you all posted! Is your surgery today? Haha, I know right! My pee is now constantly clear. It's like I'm peeing Water. XD

Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
That's the amount my NUT "prescribed" for me based on my exercise level (which is high). I checked in after surgery and she says to keep doing exactly what I'm doing and by three months they are "pretty sure" I'll see weight loss. But I know most people lose at their highest rate in the first month after surgery. The fact that I've slowed so much already scares me a lot. The fact that you're feeling actual hunger is odd. Your stomach should be re-designed to only hold a 4 oz meal. Just keep doing what your NUT says. Some people have longer stalls than others. Let us know how things go. <3

I was also going to say that 1200 calories a day seems like a bit much, especially this soon. Ask your doctor if cutting some of those calories would be a good idea.

Had surgery but didn't have surgery
I've heard that the sleeve is much less complicated than bypass. Though, I don't know what kind of insurance you have. Some insurances won't cover the sleeve, and will only cover the bypass; not sure why. I would definitely try for the surgery again. 475 pounds is extremely worrying and very detrimental to your health. I'm 249 pounds right now, and even I am risking a lot by being this big. You should never feel ashamed. I think that anyone who can get to your size must have a thyroid problem. In my opinion, it seems impossible to be that size by just eating alone. Something isn't right with the body when it allows itself to get to that size. So, it isn't your fault. I see now where you said you are going to see another surgeon. I am so happy about that! Please keep us updated. <3

I think this is just a normal stall. I think your body is trying to figure out what is going on. I've heard of people who weren't losing weight right off, and then BAM! ...weeks later, they were dropping the weight. Everyone is different. When you say hungry, do you mean craving, or do you mean hunger pangs in your stomach?

Day 1 of pre-OP liquid diet
I've had 3-4 shakes per day and I've already lost 6 pounds. This is my 5th day. I was tempted, too. I actually had a nightmare 2 nights ago that I cheated and was eating a Little Debbie Zebra cake, lmao! I was so devastated. Then I woke up feeling so relieved, hahaha. XD

Need Advice/Help Please
This doesn't seem normal. You are not getting in enough food. This can be dangerous. If he doesn't care, find someone who does. You need to find a way to get food in. Please find another doctor who can help you.

Day 1 of pre-OP liquid diet
Yeah, I'm not sure why they only required me to do this for 1 week. How are you doing on yours?
-
No desire to eat
It is a phase. You will probably feel like this for a few more weeks. You just had your stomach sized to only hold a 4 oz meal. So of course eating will seem like a chore. As for protein, have you tried protein shakes? They're pretty good depending on which ones you drink. When they perform the gastric sleeve, they cut out a big portion of your stomach that produces ghrelin. Ghrelin is known as the "hungry hormone". That's why most people get this surgery; so they don't crave as much. You will be ok. If this lasts for more than a few more weeks, consult your doctor.
-
Will it get better
It will definitely pass. Everyone is made differently. Your body isn't handling sugar well, so it reacted badly. Please don't regret this! You are only just over 2 weeks post-OP. This is normal. Hang in there!

Getting in the pool?
It's because of bacteria mostly. Even with chlorine, there is still a chance of having bacteria in a pool. I was so impatient after my breast reduction because I love to swim. I had to wait at least 6 weeks before I was able to get in. But, my incisions were bigger than laparoscopic ones. So you should be fine to get in in about a week or 2. Just make sure your wounds are completely healed of holes.

Give up on goal weight?
Have you tried working out? I know that people who have had stalls have gotten a personal trainer to help them shed extra pounds. But it does seem that your body is happy where it is. You're very tall for a woman, so 160's is a great weight.

Surgery Day
It could be a combination of both. My stomach is crazy with this liquid diet. And every time I get nervous, it's even worse. You will do great! <3

Day 5 of Pre-OP Liquid Diet
It's been 5 days of this liquid diet and I have already lost 6 pounds!!! I'm pretty happy about that. Since I'm so short (almost 5'2'') I can't really see it; but I can definitely feel it! People who are vertically challenged, such as myself, don't usually start seeing a difference until 20-30 pounds lost, lol. XD This diet has actually been pretty easy. I don't know if it's because I've dieted before, and that I knew what to expect; or if maybe I just got lucky. I really expected to feel miserable since I've seen so many people struggle with it. The only thing I can complain about is the amount of times I've peed. Last night, between 12 am - 5 am, I counted 19 times that I got up to pee. It's driving me crazy. @_@

Day 3 of Pre-OP liquid diet.
I think maybe I did, lol! It's already about 20 minutes until day 5 and I can honestly say that this is not as hard as I expected. I'm not much of a snacker, anyway. So maybe that's why it was easy? XD I did get a slight headache last night, but I think a lot of that was because I didn't drink enough Water. But other than that, it was a piece of cake! (Cake was a bad word, lmao! >_>)

Aug 1st my sleeve day
Congrats! My surgery is on Thursday. I'm very excited! I was worried the most about the liquid diet before the surgery. But I'm already almost on day 5 and it's been pretty easy for me. I guess I got lucky. XD Now, I am worried I will feel nauseous after surgery. I hate feeling that way. :/ I'm also very worried about the gas pains. I had my gallbladder removed a few months ago and the gas pain I felt in my right arm was AWFUL. Walking truly does help. So if you're starting to feel pain, get up and walk. The pain will go away almost immediately. I wasn't able to sleep even at an inclined angle for the first 2 nights. I had to sleep at a 90 degree angle. It seems miserable, but I was so doped up on pain meds that I fell asleep pretty easily, haha. After 3 days, the pain should be gone. It's unlikely that you will stay in the hospital for only 1 day. Most people stay 2-3 days. But who knows, your doctor may let you go home in 1 day depending on how well you do. Also, good luck! You will do great! Please keep us updated!

Got the sleeve on July 20 - totally exhausted-help
It extremely normal to feel tired after any surgery; especially this one! Your body is used to eating a ton of carbs, plus it's working hard to heal you, so it's stealing energy. You will get better. I heard of people who were exhausted after the surgery, and then weeks later, they got a burst of energy!

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
Well, hopefully this surgery makes you the size you wish to be. There have been people who have had this surgery and said that they have never been in a medium or small in their life, until after they lost a lot of weight. I mean, it's amazing the figure all of these people are hiding under all the weight. So you never know! I always used to be small. I remember my mom bought me a size small in the Pink brand sweatpants when I was in high school, and they always fell off of me. And even then I thought I was fat! I weighed 115, lmao! Girl, I am so sick of shopping at Lane Bryant... >_> I used to wear Express and Old Navy clothes. When I walked into LB, I felt so depressed. I wear a 16 right now, which is not something I'm used to. I am here for you through this process! If you need anyone to talk to, please send me a message. I love to talk!

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
I really do hope you will get an answer soon. I know how miserable it feels to be anxious for something, especially something like this. That's great that you were happier. Now you're probably even more motivated to feel that way again. This time, you will keep it off! I miss buying medium sized clothes, and sometimes even small. Now I'm buying 2x and it really sucks. :/ If this ever gets hard for you, please feel free to send me a message. Venting definitely helps!

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
Oh god... Yeah, that's scary, especially since your dad has that condition. I'm glad you did the smart thing! I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of this; the denial letter and wanting to give up. I dreaded that feeling, but I'm so lucky that my insurance approved me, especially so quickly. I hope they approve you. I will seriously be pissed if they don't, lol! Please let me know what they say! Oh, I'm not unhappy either. But I'm not as happy as I want to be. I'm on Lexapro, so it helps me a lot with my OCD. I used to be severely depressed when I was thin. Then when I started taking Lexapro, I got so much better; almost as if I were never sad to begin with. Our self-esteem will definitely improve once we lose weight!

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
Adipex is an amphetamine. It's a lot like Adderall. So, basically, it's like medical meth. I'm glad you stopped taking it. The long-term affects are probably not good for your heart. That's great that your doctor wrote you an approval note! I'm almost certain your insurance will approve you because of the note. I think this surgery will make you so much healthier! I'm 25, too! And LOL! You sound just like me. I'd rather be healthy and thin than ever want food. I've realized how much I'm missing out on in life by being overweight. Being this big is the number 1 reason I'm not completely happy.

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
Yes I was! I was the short girl with the red t-shirt asking all the questions, lol! I was with my mom. She came with me because she was so against the surgery at first. After we left, she was convinced that I needed it. I think I remember you. We're you with your husband? I think I saw you sitting next to the wall closest to the entrance door of the room. I remember you smiling at me. Congrats on your cardiac clearance! I got my surgery date very soon. They actually got me approved 8 days after that first appointment. I am now on my 3rd day of the liquid diet. So far, it's not as hard as I expected. I'm obviously hungry, but I'm not completely miserable. My surgery date is August 4th. How are you doing? Yes, that was me. I dragged my hub to the appt with me so he'd hear for himself what support I would need without a debate later. I remember feeling like I was in a room full of people that could understand me, whereas often times I am not. That was an unexpected but pleasant surprise for me. I remember seeing you reading the binder and saying to your mom "..this is why I have to have this surgery..". I understood you were making your case to someone who wasn't sure about it even though you were. It was refreshing to see your confidence facing a major life event. Honestly, when I doubt myself I think back to that moment and remind myself of all the reasons why I have to have this surgery. I am so happy you're mom learned a bit more about it and came around! And so happy for you that Dr Miles moved it along to help save your sight. My sis in TX had hers early this month. She's doing great and she pointed me to this group. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App So your husband was somewhat against this surgery? If so, I hope he's understanding now. Awww! I'm so glad being there made you feel that way. I definitely understand you! I was so confident when I walked in because of all the research I've done and because I joined this group. That's so sweet of you to think of me when you doubt yourself! I'm so glad I'm able to help people, even in small ways. That's great to hear about your sister! How much weight has she lost? Is she feeling hungry? My mom used to think that dieting on my own was just as successful. What she doesn't understand is that our stomachs are stretched out, and that make it harder for us to keep the weight off. I feel like this surgery is going to help us start over on a clean slate.

My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
That's what Dr. Miles said to me, too. He said the insurance companies are hoping you will get sick of waiting and making appointments and eventually give up on having the surgery. But please don't give up! Will your doctor vouch for you and say that you tried?
