  1. Tomorrow is coming fast!!! Excited but I can feel my anxiety bubbling too. I'm glad I work today. It'll help keep my mind off it. I keep thinking, "what am I doing??? Cutting off 80% of a perfectly good organ!!" lol. I know, I know.....It'll help me get this monkey off my back. Food has dominated my life long enough. I'm ready to take control and enjoy activities more than food. I'm ready, still a bit scared though.
  2. Today is the big day for you blizair09!! Sending prayers and good vibes your way!! Keep us posted on how you're doing. Tomorrow is my big day. :-)
  3. My last preop appt was the 19th. I immediately started the two week 1,200 calorie diet. Then today and tomorrow are liquids. I'm super excited but getting nervous. Do you go to the support group meetings? They're pretty informative.
  4. Do either of you have Dr LaMasters? She's my surgeon. I've heard amazing things about her. My primary dr had the sleeve surgery too and she looks amazing!! She said that LaMasters is a great surgeon. Starting my two day liquid diet today!! Woohooo. I'm so ready for this new life. My first grandbaby will be born in April so I'm determined even more to get healthy.
  5. Thank you Mindi Lou!! How are you doing in this journey?
  6. Hi Nana. Thank you!! I'm having my surgery at Iowa Methodist. Is this your first meeting with your surgeon? Wishing you luck!!
  7. Good luck to you too!! You'll be fine. Think positive thoughts. If you've done your research, have a trusted medical team and are willing to follow the guidelines, you'll do great. You've got this!!
  8. Wow!! Time has gone by so fast!! I can't believe my day is almost here. I've felt overwhelmed and terrified up until about two days ago. A calm has settled over me and I'm ready. I know I've researched this surgery for a long time, I have an amazing medical team and awesome support from friends and family. My primary dr and one of my best friends had the sleeve too. They're both doing amazing. That's inspiring. Today is my last day on the 1,200 calorie diet. Tomorrow I start the 2 day liquid diet. Thursday is the big day!! [emoji2] Any extra prayers and good vibes would be appreciated.
  9. Hi fellow Iowans. I'm getting nervous!! Actually super excited. Surgery is this Thursday!! Eeeeks. Where did the time go? How are you all doing in the process?
  10. Thank you all very much for the input. I really appreciate it. ????
  11. I'm just finishing my 2 week 1,200 calorie diet. On Tuesday I start a 2 day liquid diet. Thursday is surgery. Then 2 week liquid diet after.
  12. RTD = Ready to Drink Isopure had powders, and they also have bottles of liquid that are ready to drink. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you.
  13. Can I get some opinions on genepro vs isopure unflavored protein? Which one seems to mix into stuff the best? After taste? Etc. Just looking for some input before I buy any. Surgery is Thursday. I bought Premier protein and I like those now but have heard taste buds can change after surgery. I want to be prepared. Thank you.[emoji4]
  14. I think my biggest concern at this point is whether I'll fail at losing the weight, yet again. And some concern about reactions from others. I'm working on getting better habits established now before I get a surgery date. I've been eating healthier, eating Breakfast and lunch which I normally skipped, drinking more Water and increasing my activity. I'm not sure why I'm feeling so anxious about it all. The facts are, I'd be much healthier and happier......but I'm still pretty scared to commit to it. :-/
  15. Hi Mindi!! I'm still going through the hoops too. I'm actually grateful for the hoops. It's giving me time to really gather information and make a decision. How are you feeling about the decision?
  16. *waving* ND is where I grew up!! Closer to Minot though on a farm. :-) I'm in IA now.
  17. I'm in the DSM area too! Do you have Lamasters as your surgeon? I've heard she's very good.
  18. Hi hi fellow Iowan!! *high five* ????
  19. Unfortunately I missed it. My husband had a show Friday night and we didn't get home until after 3 a.m. I'll have to check out the next one. Thank you for checking in. I appreciate it.
  20. You're right. It's a mental cycle. It would be worth it to get my health back. It's still frightening. I'm an over thinker, over analyzer. I just need to work through some of this mental stuff. Thank you for the heads up on the support group. I'm hoping to hear some success stories. That's really motivational. Also would be helpful to hear of the roadblocks too. Thank you for the help and insight. I appreciate it.
  21. Ok, attempt number 3 at replying to this!!! I've written two long responses and lost them both into cyber space. My hurdles are the vicious mental cycles. -What if I fail? -What if I still binge? -What if I end up with ugly loose skin that looks worse than my fat? -What if I could have done this without surgery but I just didn't try hard enough. -Maybe I just need to try harder. (even though I can hear Dr. Lamasters saying that even those that do lose it on their own, only about 1% can keep it off without surgery) :-( Then I just get angry with myself for allowing myself to get fat in the first place. -Maybe there's a way to lose the weight without surgery and I just haven't found it. -What if I lose a bunch of my hair? I'm already thinning. Those are some of my hang ups right now. My therapist has asked me to start making small changes now. -Have a Protein shake each morning, rather than skipping bf. -Eat a healthy lunch, rather than either skipping lunch or having just a pb sandwich. -Cut my portions at dinner time. -Drink more Water. -Be more active. I'm using my fitbit and challenging myself to hit at least 5,000 steps a day. Eventually I'd like to lose enough that I feel ok in a swimsuit so I can learn how to swim and do some water aerobics. I do well at most of these small goals for 2-3 days then I'll slip up. Once I slip up, I toss the whole process out the window. Then I get depressed, angry, feel defeated, etc. When I mess up I feel like I punish myself by sabotaging the entire plan. As for your success, way to go!! It's very inspiring to hear about your journey. I'm going to one of the support group meetings this Saturday. I'm looking forward to hearing more great stories and information. Maybe it'll help me make my decision.
  22. So far, I've gone to the info meeting and the initial consultation with the surgeon (Dr Lamasters). At that consultation I met the dietitian, nurse and insurance lady. Next up is a support group and psychiatrist appts. I'm still on the fence. My emotions are all over the place. :-/ Just found out today that insurance covers it except like $5,500. Do you have any regrets? What was the worst/best parts of the experience?
