I m in Northern California with a surgery date of May 31st. I will be finally having the Gastric Sleeve I say finally because this is my 3rd doctor and had to have an UGI and upper endoscopy before she would okay my surgery. I did not want the bypass which because of my GERD the first two said no. After finding "several" polyps in my stomach a bypass is no longer on the table. I am nervous, scared, excited, stressed and worried. My adult children are not happy I am doing this. Even my long time friend is cold to the idea. My sister in law had her surgery last year in Mexico and had many buddies. I am going through my husband's health insurance. I have attended a meeting but had company this month and was unable. Texasbrit10, I am in California and have my pre op appointment tomorrow. I am nervous, excited and scared all wrapped up into one. I am 55 and am an empty nester this year. I am doing this so I do not end up like my father (insulin dependent). I am currently not needing insulin but am borderline diabetic with other health issues. I will find out tomorrow what time my surgery is and what soap to wash with before surgery as well as a colon cleanse? (This is what the nurse said on the phone when she scheduled my surgery). I am 55 and having surgery on the 31st of May. Second guessing myself on my decision. My adult children are not pleased and do not want me to have it. I hope you are still doing well as did your 2week appt. Is all of what you are experiencing how you imagined? I have been reading, reading, reading on this forum and even though I do not have the green light for the sleeve, (only the bypass of which I do not want) I am going back and forth on the whole thing. My eldest child is not happy about my decision which tears me up. Makes me second guess myself. I know without a support team in place, I will be miserable. I too have Kaiser. You will meet with a dietitian and with the surgeon to discuss which surgery you want and which they will do depending on your health. You will be given a binder FULL OF INFORMATION and will be told how much weight you will need to lose before the next phase. When you are within 5 lbs of your weight you will send in a quiz and be scheduled an appointment with a psychiatrist. Still trying to get the dr to commit to sleeve. I just had an UGI last week to see if I had a hernia which might get him to say yes to the sleeve. ( acid reflux) if he determines that is the cause of my reflux then he will do the sleeve. I do not want the bypass. I restarted this process after starting it 4 years ago. I asked for a second opinion to see if I could get this dr to okay the sleeve. If so , my surgery could be in May. (6 weeks out) Keeping fingers crossed and wishing you well with yours. I am 55 and in the beginning stages for getting the Sleeve. I just had an UGI and I am within 5 pounds of my surgery weight. I totally see how support groups are our way of succeeding. Worried about eating out or rather not wanting to eat out but my husband loves eating out. Will this change in habits hurt us? Thank you for sharing your stories. I am 55 and in the mid stages of getting a surgery for a sleeve. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all happens.
