  1. Mine is April 7. I have to be at the hospital at 7am. This is day two of my 5 day liquid only pre-op diet. Shrink liver shrink. I go to meet my surgeon and to do all my hospital pre-op tomorrow. I turn 30 on April 21. What a life changing birthday gift I'm about to give to myself.
  2. Life of a mom pre-op. I'm sitting here drinking my strawberry Protein shake and feeding my 2 year old hamburger helper. This is day 1 on the liquid diet. Sent from my SCH-I605 using the BariatricPal App
  3. I'm turning 30 on April 21. My surgery date is April 7th. I will totally be your buddy. Sent from my SCH-I605 using the BariatricPal App
  4. I started Oct 2015. My sleep study was end of Nov 2015. My pre-op NUT visits were Jan, Feb, March 2016. I got the insurance approval last week. My surgery is next Thursday, April 7. That makes 6 months total from start to finish. I am so sorry about the sleep study error. That was the longest process for me. Hang in there! You have every right to be upset. I wonder if there is a sooner if possible list the sleep study place can put you on.
  5. My insurance approved me for surgery. Tomorrow starts my 5 day pre-op liquid diet. I picked up my shakes this morning. Monday 4/4 is my hospital pre-op. Surgery is next Thursday! I am so nervous. This is such a huge, life changing surgery. Most people are supportive. A few have said things like, "I am shocked you qualify for that." or the, "I know of someone who had horrible complications.". I am taking two weeks off of work to allow my body to heal. Starting weight: 227 Current weight: 216 Height: 5'4" I have no idea how much I will drop on this liquid pre-op. I've never had to go that long without solid food. I know it is required so my liver will shrink before surgery. The thing I am most looking forward to is getting rid of my sleep apnea. Second thing, we live near the Gulf of Mexico. It's super hot in Houston. I want to be able to wear a cute dress or shorts. I want to be able to ride the rides at Disney without worrying about my weight.
  6. I'm in Houston. Well, Houston is huge. I am south of Houston near NASA. Surgery date is set: April 7.
  7. My surgery is April 7 in Houston. Waves to the Texas folk. My hospital pre-op is the Monday 4-4. I start my 5 day liquid diet on Saturday. Eep!
  8. I finished all my pre-op procedures! My information has been submitted to Cigna for pre-authorization. I called Cigna. They said to allow 5 business days for the claim to process. I am assuming after they get the pre-approval they will schedule the surgery. Hoping for an April surgery.
  9. I am in the same boat. Cruise is scheduled end of May. I should get my approval for surgery for beginning/mid April. I do not want to push surgery back. However, I also don't want to be still healing from major surgery. I am leaning towards waiting. The thought of being a smaller size on embarkation is tempting though.
  10. I didn't think I had anything wrong (besides being fat) until I went through all the testing. I ended up positive for sleep apnea. Not only do I have apnea, I have moderate apnea where I stop breathing up to 15 times per hour. After the EGD, I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I say go for the tests. It was worth it for me to get the comorbidity diagnosis. I am 5'4 and currently 223. I had to have a comorbidity in order for insurance coverage.
  11. I have moderate sleep apnea. I stop breathing up to 15 times per hour at night. Did I want to buy a CPAP?...nope. WLS, according to my sleep doctor, will cure my apnea. During the EGD I was sedated. My bariatric surgeon put an oxygen tube in my nose. I went to sleep. I woke up in recovery. I am more nervous about the actual surgery and the pain I'll be in. I've never had major surgery. Hopefully it's manageable.
  12. Thanks everyone!!! So glad I found this support. Second NUT visit went well. I lost 4 pounds in 4 weeks. I'm not exercising. It's all due to diet change. I can't see or feel a difference yet. Looking forward to my next NUT meeting in March. Hoping for another 4 pound loss.
  13. I'm with Dr Kenneth Hollis at Memorial Hermann in Houston. I am using my Cigna insurance. I was on a cash pay journey until I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. They said cash pay is around 12k. He was my second opinion consult. The first surgeon I met with quoted 10k for the sleeve. I didn't trust his staff. The doctor and all his staff were over weight. It just rubbed me the wrong way.
  14. My husband booked a cruise for our family last July 2015. It is a week long cruise with our 8 and 5 year old. We've fully paid for it. Sail date is right before Memorial Day at the end of May. I should have my pre-op things completed at the very end of March. If insurance approves, that means a late April surgery or beginning of May. I don't think that would be wise to have the surgery a few weeks before leaving. The vacation is bad timing. I have been doing much better on my pre-op diet. I just got back from walking 3.75 miles with our 8, 5, and 2 year old. I have my second visit with my NUT next week. If I get approved, can I control to wait until Mid June? I don't want to push surgery back but I also don't want to be 3-4 weeks out from major surgery running after my kids walking up and down stairs etc. Advice? Stats: 5'4" Start Weight: 230 Current Weight: 223
  15. I started this process last Sept 2015. I was told that I needed to be a high BMI and have one more obesity related health problem. They sent me for a sleep study. The place was booked until November. After I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea, things started picking up. I met with my barbaric surgeon in Jan. I am required to see a nutritionist for three months. I had an EGD and swallow test. I really need to schedule my psych evaluation. After that is all completed, they will send the information to my insurance for review. Edit to add; I don't have a primary care doctor. I had to get my sleep study doctor to write me a letter of recommendation. It had to say that the doctor felt the WLS would be beneficial for me. Insurance requires the letter.
  16. Patient Relations Coordinator at a dental office.
  17. I look forward to sleeping through the night without my sleep apnea. Also looking forward to my boobs being bigger than my belly. Currently, It's the other way around and I'm a high F bra size. Hopefully the bra size goes down with the weight loss.
  18. Everything went well today. The EGD found a hiatal hernia. My doctor said he would fix it during surgery. The swallow test further confirmed the hernia. I thought I had zero health issues besides being fat. These pre-op tests have found moderate sleep apnea (I stop breathing 15 times per hour), a fatty liver, and now this hernia. Definitely been an eye opening experience.
  19. Thanks for answering. I think I'm most nervous about the IV sedation. Glad I found this support system. I have been doing, "ok" on my pre-op diet. I have cut out all sodas. I am doing well on Protein first, then Veggie. I admit to cheating with Starbucks frapps and pizza. Last night I had bread, eep! I didn't realize how important that pre op diet is until I read the posts here. My insurance requires 3 months of nutritional visits, not 6. I am in month one. Time to get serious.
  20. I am new here. I am almost through all the pre-op visits. I need to do my psych test. I have two more visits with my nutritionist, one this month, one next. Today is my EGD and swallow test. Did anyone else have to do this pre-op? I have to be at the hospital at 10. EGD is scheduled at 11:45am and swallow test at 1pm. I turn 30 in April. Starting weight 230 Current weight 225.3 Height 5'4" Once all this is completed(in March) the next step is to submit everything for pre-authorization to my insurance. Looking at a June surgery date.
