  7. It's amazing. Some people can eat anything...others never eat a broad range again. And if something gave one indigestion before...I'm sure it will now as well. I have a dicey stomach and can't eat a lot of certain things. I can have some tomato products, but not lots. Some wheat, but a lot makes me gassy. None of that will change. My biggest problem is that it was not easy for me to transition to mushies and then to solids. I still tend to eat soft foods. I'm very nervous about going out for a slice of pizza or deep fried or anything like that, when truth is, you can when you'er banded. We're supposed to be able to eat small amounts of most foods. My BIL has lost 120 pounds and he eats everythign but calamari - too rubbery- and bread needs to be toasted. Another man I know can really eat everything. And he's also lost alot of weight banded. I feel so limited, but I'm also scared to branch out. So, I'm still plain fish and chicken and sweet potatoes and cooked veggies. I go for my first fill on Wed.
  8. Good On You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great News About The 6 Pounds!
  9. WOW- that's a quick first fill. Where were you banded. Usually it's about 6 weeks. I'm not filled yet. I go this week. I find that with what I've invested in the emotionally and phyically, I learning to leave food on the plate. That's all you need to do right now. Once you get another fill or so, you simply will have to eat less. Good choices? Just keep moving on past the things that hurt the band like high calorie liquids. Hungry late at night. Buy some 25 diet hot chocolate. It satifies the sweet tooth and the hot liquid is filling. Good luck!
  10. You always have good suggestions....that's why I ask you questions. The gas is high up.....you know, the stabbing under the breastbone kind. Takes a long time to make it's way down and out. I keep thinking something is wrong but but it's gas pain for the very most part. I am lactose intolerant, but use organic lactaid milk and even take a lactaid tablet before eating yogurt. Cottage cheese isn't a problem. I just don't know what I can do to stop it and when is it gonna stop????? It's on my list for the doctor on Wed. My bad knee started to hurt so I'm not exercising for a few days- maybe that's the reason for the gas build-up.....what do you think? What I am happy about is going out for dinner as I did tonight. I ordered Orange Roughy with mashed potatoes and spinach. The spinach was too bitter, but I ate 1/2 the fish (small piece overall) and about 1/2 the mashed pot. I was SOOOOOOOO full. I left 1/2 the pot on the plate. And this is the real comfort food I loved. I don't push to finish. I remind myself hat it's a potato, and I can make another potato tomorrow if I wish. I don't have to finish that one. And all this without having had a fill yet! Just knowing others feel their ports after months and have gas later, helps me push the potatoes away. Some people seem to sail through with no issues, and then there are the rest of us, who feel this and have that, but we make it through all the same. Thanks for listening.
  11. where do you get sugar free sno cones?
  12. Hi Salsa etal, I'm glad someone brought this up because I've been fine regarding pain and suddenly at almost 6 weeks, I'm having some discomfort, not pain, around the port area. I thought I twisted wrong when I went to pick up the laundry basket (and it could also be gas pain because I'm having plenty of gas as well). I was nervous all day that I "broke" something. Port, tub, band. I guess everyone thinks this the first few times it is suddenly uncomfortable. Today, I started to slowly use my recumbent bike again. The nurse didn't want me to use it after the surgery so I walked, but I walked too hard too long and now my knee hurts so I need the bike. I guess at 6 weeks it should be okay. So, this is all normal, eh?
  13. I'm with everyone else. The emphasis for the first couple of months is healing. So, if you walk on the treadmill, go slow. I know it's sometimes different for men, but for me, I am on for a 1/2 hour at 1.5 mph. You think you're not doing anything, but you are. The walking at the beginning is to help circulation, to help healing, and to remove gas. I have a recumbent bike was not allowed to use it at first- I guess it's too much stomach involvement or something. Today was first time and I felt it. I could have gone on and on but I stopped after 12 minutes. There's no need to push. Still used up 91 calories, and since I'm eating 800 -900, that's fine. Be careful!
  14. I never even looked here! HAH. I'm going to take a look, but so far, I really like the site I found. If they're similar enough though......................
  15. Wow, I hit on a website today that I have joined and I'm passing it on. myfooddiary.com I'm not good at writing it all down so I was just looking for a way to report in. This site requires some attention and work up front (I've been playing with it all day) but what you get is exactly how much Protein, calories and everything else including Water in a daily report. They give you the number of calories to maintain and to lose what you wish to lose each week. It's the best one I've seen. The rub is that it's not free. It's $9 per week, but you have 5 days to withdraw and then it's weekly.....not a long-term committment. If you put everything in, you'll get a true snapshot. It has over 50,00 food items in the database or you add your own. So I could look up the brand of crackers I'm allowed (Ah-Mak) and all I do is click it and it automatically puts in the nutritional data for me. You don't need the protein counter or anything. When I go back to work, I'll either do it at the office, or send myself an email with what I've eaten. Also adds in exercise into the mix. Even housework. This is also good for the dietician to see how much protein, carbs, calories in an acurate format. Anyway, I'm enjoying it - didn't know if people knew about it. Gwenn
  16. First of all, if insurance is paying, it is not elective. Insurance doesn't pay for elective. Obesity is a recognized disease. Even if insurance doesn't pay because there's an exclusion, it's a recognized disease. The state only needs the paperwork. They don't deal with diagnosis. Your doctor is who you need. And also be aware that disability only pays up to half of your salary and in most places, won't kick in until day 8.
  17. enigma- you are hilarious. Pocketknife cuts.......ROFLMAO!
  18. We ALL have bad days. I was so together after the surgery and now, nearly 6 weeks later.....I'm having a tough time. Too much gas, and what feels like gas pain but who knows, around the port area. My port area is still very tender, and I can't eat much at a time. I've heard that if I'm still swollen and not eating much, they may not do the first fill as scheduled on Wed. So, that's my complaints. I've been told it takes a while for all the issues and emotions to work through. I can't wait to find out nothing is wrong with my port etc and that I'm ready for a fill. So hold on and yup....have a good laugh.
  19. I feel like I do nothing but whine lately. I think I'm having a delayed reaction to banding. I did so well, physically and mentally the first couple of weeks and suddenly, I'm having a bunch of small physical issues that are really throwing me. I was banded 4/30. It's June 2- almost six weeks, and I'm gasier than ever. Really gassy. I'm experiementing with removing foods and trying to make certain to add lactaid when I eat dairy. The gas feels like pain so sometimes I'm not sure if I'm still healing or if it's gas. But even with Gas-X, I'm gurgling and giving it off all day. Nice, huh? Having been taken off my regular med for reflux, the new soluable Previcid (I took Prontonix) give me the runs. Surgeon doesn't want me to take pills but I know some people do. So, I stopped taking anything to see if I could do iwithout any meds now that I'm banded, and I'm having pain in the esophagus. Just went back on the Previcid to give it one more try. BUti n the meantime it hurts to eat. And I used to take Metamusil everyday for a small stomach issue and I'm told not to use it. Benefiber is okay but doesn't do quite the same so that's a battle as well. Third issue- I'm still tender and I believe swollen around the port area. Maybe age has something to do with it, I don't know. I can't eat much and I can't eat many things. Experimenting is painful, but needs to be done. I'm mostly on fish and chicken, and I can't eat more than a few oz at a time. The good news is I've lost 31 pounds since surgery. But, I may not be given my first fill this week. I'm told that if you're losing and feel tight they don't ususually do it. I tell you, it's hard to believe I haven't had a fill yet. I eat very slowly and chew (what there is to chew) well. I have to force myself to 4-5 small meals a day in order to get the Protein in. Anyway, no huge issues, but to me they are enormous. Of course, every pain I have I think I've done something to the band or port but that I'm sure if normal angst at the beginning.
  20. As I had a generous amount of sick days available, I decided to take a month or so off to heal and get my head wrapped around this. My surg make it 5 weeks. In California, once you've been out 7 days you're automatically on disability-short term. My company still pays minus the amount the state pays. This also means that I lose less sick days as the time the state pays (rather than the company) are state "sick days" not my companies. It's good because it comes out to about a third of the sick days are not deducted. Still it's a big drop in sick time, but it was important to me. I haven't had time off in quite a while. Gwenn
  21. That's great. Congratulations! Gwenn
  22. I was banded end of April and today I feel like I moved the wrong way did something to annoy the area or something because I'm having some discomfort in the area above the port. May just be gas (I'm VERY gassy) and it could be that I did a bit too much and my body is still not fully healed. Are little aches and twinges around and above the port normal after 5 or 6 weeks. Can I still be healing? My first fill is scheduled for next week. Thanks_Gwenn
  23. Hi- I've had gas all along. My belly fills up and sounds like a concert or a tornado- especially at night. I've been told it can be because chewing slowly brings more air into the stomach. Also, just today I'm having some discomfort along the band tubing- you know the spot- above above the port by a few inches on the left side. It's a bit of a sticking pain. Not awful and not all the time. I don't know if it's gas or if it's still part of healing and scar tissue, or if I moved the wrong way and hurt myself a bit. After almost 6 weeks I should be okay. Of course I'm concerned that something has gone amiss and the band has gone wrong or something. I have been told that if that happens, and it is unusual, the pain is intense or one vomits, etc. So, make me feel better. Someone tell me I'm having a bad gas day, or that they've had similar discomfort along the way. Thanks, Gwenn
  24. The surgery gas went away fairly soon, but I find I am very gassy overall. At times my stomach makes so much noise inside that I feel like there's a tornado in there. I will ask my doctor. I have read that you are forever more gassy after the surgery. Partly because of chewing moer. You take in more air. Gwenn
  25. I'm six weeks Wed and scheduled for a fill and I'm concerned because I do think I'm still swollen as I am full very quickly. Gwenn
