  1. You know, I see a topic like "Help!!!" in food and I think - someone must be badly stuck on something, or has just had a bout of sickness and doesn't know what they can eat, or is in a lot of pain because of some type of food... so I open the thread and it's someone wanting to know about carb intake and 100 calorie snack packs. I eat bread and carbs as tolerated. If I eat bread I prefer better quality breads such as fresh-baked artisan loaves. I'll have the occasional tasted English muffin, and I use jalapeno tortillas for wraps. Sliced bread doesn't do much for me. I avoid most white carbs most of the time, but if I want something with them in it, I have it.
  2. Moving to a more suited forum.
  3. Lap-Band Surgery FAQs and References - Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support, 8th sticky.
  4. Check our FAQs & Reference section, you will probably find answers to most of your questions. Lapband surgery FAQs and Reference The 8th sticky in particular will answer your question.
  5. Sounds like you're too tight. Seek an unfill. Yogurt is a mushy and if you can't keep muchies down at all, why is there any doubt?
  6. Diane just out of my own morbid curiosity are you still attending the SMMC support group, or have you abandoned that alltogether in favor of the Yahoo or Malley groups? (Or maybe it was Sea who went with the Malley groups... I'm starting to not remember things clearly :pray2: ) Oh and welcome all the recent KS ppl that I've not met or talked to. Which is most of you. Nice to see the local pool of knowledge & experience growing. Having that within driving distance is such a great thing. :wink2:
  7. Well obviously things like enterics would be out. If you get to the point that you need a RX for anything, antibiotic or not, just make sure your doctor knows you are banded and may have problems passing even small pills into your stomach. It's their job to know from there what you can or can't have. Or at least to look it up.
  8. Gas pain, and post-op gas pain, are totally different things. It's like having a stabbing pain versus actually being stabbed. :pray2: From a previous post I made: OP, since your issue is internal gas, have you looked at what you're eating as a source? What are most of your meals comprised of? Post-operative gas, what isn't removed when the procedure is finished, or able to exit if a gas drain is used (not too common), leaves the body through a process called dissipation.
  9. Yeah, the band work swith fills. For most, it does not work before. For some it does. The amount of your first fill isn't something we can tell you. It will depend mostly on how your surgeon does things, as influenced by what you're experiencing. Some surgeons have set amounts they give unless there's significant loss/no loss, others will base it on what foods you can eat, others will base it on a visual fill, etc. Waiting between fills - I think my quickest return was 3 weeks. I wanted to give it a week to make sure the fill had kicked in, and two weeks to make sure I wasn't going to hit a wall when my period started (I get tighter around that time, for about 2 weeks - if I'm *tight* before my period, I will have trouble during).
  10. A few months ago I had to take a round of 5 separate antibiotics. I crushed them and would use drinkable yogurt to get them down w/o tasting them.
  11. I responded to the other location where you posted this. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/i-gained-1-5-pounds-mushies-49770/ You really might want to do (everyone should who isn't already familiar with it) some reading on the body's metabolism, and find some way to measure your progress other than a scale. When you realize it's pretty much not going to happen that you gain 1.5 pounds of fat overnight, you also realize it must be something else, and there's no panic. A scale weighgs your hair, your skin, anything on and anything in your body. That doesn't do much for giving you an accurate idea of fat or sizing changes.
  12. Yep yep, depends entirely on your plan as well as exclusions. It will say in your SPD, just read it.
  13. Daily fluctuations of weight up to 8 lbs or more are NORMAL and COMMON and no reason for alarm. To gain 1.5 lbs overnight, you'd have to eat the equivalent of like 4.5 sticks of butter in addition to your BMR calories. Take a deep breath, then throw your scale away.
  14. Well - there isn't an option for me. I need a, "No, I burp much less than before banding" because it most definitely isn't the same as before. I rarely, rarely burp. And when I do, it's different than how I would burp before. Like deep rolling burps, vs. shallow burps. Hard to explain, but I was joking around with some ladies I know who are banded once at dinner, and one of them burped in the exact same way so we started talking about it and yep -- all of us had noticed the same changes.
  15. I gain between 6 & 15 lbs. It tends to come on about 4 days before I start, and go away about 3 days after I end. If I PB, I can pretty much guarantee it's within the 4 days preceding the start of my period. I get super duper tight then, which makes sense.
  16. Sounds more like acid reflux than PBing, especially with the night + laying down. One typically would not eat in the morning, feel fine, and then PB once you laid down. I'm not going to say it can't happen, but I've never ever heard of it, nor does it make sense from a "how it works" perspective.
  17. Hi and welcome. There's a good chunk of us from Kansas City & surrounding areas - Overland Park, Shawnee, Blue Springs, etc. What part of KC are you in?
  18. I have posted a few times to this topic in threads. So rather than retype it all, I'll jsut be lazy. Cannot Eat During The Day Have Had 2-unfills Can You Eat Soup????? Expectations vs. reality And a poll I started on the topic: What's your restriction pattern? What goes down ok when I'm super tight... not much. It can take 45 mins or more to feel that a drink of soymilk has cleared. If I'm OK tight, then I go for things like Soups or very wet meat salads (tuna salad mainly), yogurt, etc. but I have to go VERY slow, like it could easily take me 2 - 3 hours to eat a yogurt single serving.
  19. Mine did, but keep in mind that doesn't mean yours will. Some people continue the struggle, just with a little mechanical will power. For me, pre-op, I looked forward to eating. I would get exited if we were going to a buffet and hope they had certain foods. I f we planned a vacation, I would instantly wonder what kind of foods they had. Food helped me pass time - if I was watching tv, I was also eating, regardless of hunger. If I was studying, I had a bowl of chips with me. Etc. Now eating is pretty much a chore. I could count on both hands the times I've truly felt hungry since banding, even when I'm getting ready for bed and haven't yet eaten anything. I'm just not hungry anymore. This has been very liberating, because even though hunger rarely spurred my overeating, it was definitely a factor (OMG - I'm hungry?! I better go eat a lot because that's HORRIBLE!) I call it my shift from "live to eat" into "eat to live" -- I finally get what all the psychos who say that mean. As for cravings, I don't believe in stopping them. I think that denying a craving does more harm than good. If I want something, I have it - only now isntead of having ALL of it, a piece fills me up. If it's something I am craving but I just can't bring myself to give into, I will look for a healthier alternative. I love Peanut Butter. Sometimes I will crave a peanut butter cookie. Sometimes I will have the cookie, but sometimes I'm too tight, or they aren't available, or I have to buy 20 (which means I'm eating 20 or throwing 19 in the trash), so instead I will make my Protein drink with peanut butter in it. When you have a strong craving, and don't do something to address it, IMO most of the time it becomes a bit of an obsession. And when you tell yourself you can't have it, or try t ignore your obsessing, is when you "crack" and binge on it... whereas if you'd just eaten the damn cookie, all would be ok.
  20. My periods were normal. I've always had heavy periods, but for short durations, usually about 3 days, sometimes just 1 or 2. Why not go to the doctor and have them give you a pregnancy test if you have any doubt? As for the atypical cycle, how many periods have you had since surgery? If you missed one, are you 0 for 1, or...?
  21. UHC. I picked them specifically because my research indicated they would be my best bet to have the procedure covered. I was in a lucky spot of having decided to have the surgery right around the same time that I accepted a different job offer, so coming into my benefits selection I had something like 17 new choices, and picked the one I thought would be most band friendly.
  22. Yeah I had to be unfilled once, 4 days after a fill, and said - homey don't play that. So I made him take 2 or 3 months to slowly bring me back up to the point I was at before the fill that proved to be too much. My last fill was probably Feb - March of last year, so about a year ago, and I'm neither too restricted nor wide open.
  23. Isopure sucks. IMO. I tasted some and thought it was OK so pre-op I bought a big cannister of their carb free powder (called perfect carb or something like that). The sample I tried must have been mixed with cheesecake or something else yummy, because this stuff sucked. I choked through it by mixing it with 2% milk and telling myself it was "like a milkshake"... only long enough to find something else.
  24. The Protein mix I tolerate best is Six Star whey protein. In chocolate and vanilla. If they're out of this, my alternate is EAS powder, or the EAS carb advantedge pre-mades in strawberry or French Vanilla (both of which have to be -COLD- or they suck). I'm rarely a purist with my Protein drinks. I will not mix them with Water, I tried gagging through that and it just didn't work for me. I will either mix them with Skim Plus milk or Silk, or sometimes the Skim Plus cut with Light OJ, about 2:1. For chocolate powder I will usually blend in either a scant spoonful of Peanut Butter, or the same of Nutells, or some sugar free Kahlua flavored coffee syrup and ice, or some sugar free Hazlelnut coffee syrup & warm the milk. For vanilla I will put in about 1/5 packet of Butterfinger flavored cocoa mix, or some low sugar/low carb regular cocoa mix, or some sugar free cider mix, or fruit (not too often, I don't like the texture of the tiny seeds). If I do the milk/OJ combo, I will just add ice and sugar (formerly Splenda, but I'm not really buying into the artificial sweetners too much anymore). Outside of protein pwders, for my liquid phase (very short compared to yours), inclusing thick liquids, I would rely on Cream of X Soups (mostly chicken), or golden mushroom, or the brothy variety of southwest chicken with all chunks strained out. Split pea Soup was nice, as was lentil soup. Clam chowder that had been whizzed up to blend in the chunks. Plain old low sodium chicken broth. Drinkable yogurts. Etc.
