  1. I am 3 months out from surgery and down 33 pounds. My start weight was 180.I have been told that I will have slower weight loss because of my start weight. My issue is whether to eat food or drink a premier Protein shake. I have found that I have lost interest in food ( I know... CRAZY) and I find it easier to just drink the Protein shakes. Is this just a phase? I could not wait to eat food when I was on a liquid diet.

What did I do to myself?

Make sure you are getting your fluids in...deep breath and cough to expand your lungs...

What did I do to myself?

Believe it or not, this will be a distant memory soon. Maybe the pain medication is adding to your nausea. Track the time you have pain medication and onset of the severe nausea. I could not handle the morphine . I changed to toroidal and the nausea went away. Did you have a hernia repair as well? For me, that was the worst. I am 3 months out since surgery and it was the BEST decision that I could have ever made. Right not that might seem unbelievable, but mark my word...you too will be saying the same thing soon. Feel better
  4. Thanks for sharing the chart. It seems pretty accurate.
  5. Yesterday, I received the green light to be about to eat al regular food. I was on a puree diets for 6 weeks. i concern, when I am eating I do not feel full right away,. i keep eating what i think will be ok, but at time later i am over filled with food. Does anyone else have delay in feeling full. How do you slow down with eating?
  6. Not everyone knows that i had surgery, but if I am in a group someone always makes a statement about the small quantity of food that I eat. i find this uncomfortable. How do over people handle this?
  7. I am just graduating to a regular diet after 6 plus weeks on soft foods ( mainly Soup with shredded chicken added). What are your thoughts about the weight watcher and lean cuisine dinners? I am finding that it is challenging to prepare a micro meal for one. I am throwing out a lot of food. Also, I have another question. My physician say I should eat meals about the size of my palm. Does anyone know how many ounces that would be? I am thinking about 4 ounces. Thanks,

    Had surgery on Tuesday 4/12

Hi. I know that things are difficult right now, but trust that it will get better. Have you tried some of the Fruit drinks like Proti Diet or ones from Bariatric pal? They are much thinner that Protein shakes. I really like the grape concentrated drink. It has 15 grams of protein in it. You can knock out two things at once. You get in your protein and Water at the same time. They are very similar to Crystal Light. Hang in there..I think everyone thinks what in the world have I done to myself the first week or so. I am 6 weeks out now and I can say the surgery was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. I feel great!!!

need to learn to slow dow

I think the mug warmer is a great idea. One reason why I might be eating faster than what i should is because i do not like " just warm" food. Maybe the mug warmer would be a good tool to try. Thanks for the idea
  10. Well, I do not usually disclose all of my business to co-workers. It is not anyone’s business what I elect to do. I am not seeking anyone’s approval. I did not feel that I need to place a billboard on the highway. People that are close to me and are my friends know about my surgery and support me. Honestly, at my age, I do not give a darn about what people think. I have just been taken back about the questions and comments from casual acquaintances. I work in a hospital, so we all go to the cafeteria to eat. I have found it interesting how people will have observations and freely ask personal questions in the presence of others that truly is none of their business. My question to the group was is this happening to others and if so, how were they handling it.

    Scale Hasn't Budged!

Five weeks out and i feel great... i do have questions thought. 1. Are there different sizes of sleeves that are provided? I have 2 co-worker that are many months ahead of me speaking about getting sick, not able to eat much, forgetting to eat, etc... I am hungry, i know when i need and what to eat.I NEVER forget to eat. I alway get in my Protein and Fluid requirements. Could my sleeve be larger than normal? I started with a lower BMI and in 4 weeks I have lost 20 pounds. In week 5 nothing is happening with the weight lost despite now walking 2 -4 mile a day. I this normal?

    Just finished surgery yesterday

Congratulations... I am just shy of 3 weeks out since surgery and I feel GREAT !!! Everyday made a big difference for me. Recovering from the surgery I listened to what my body was saying. First, I made sure that I got in the Protein and Water and everything else came second. I found Proti Diet ( concentrated flavoring) as the key for me to get in the Fluid amount and protein requirement easily. The Proti Diet is similar to crystal light, but it has 15 grams of protein in it. So, it does double duty with helping you get in the protein and fluid requirement. You have had major surgery, so your body will require time to recovery. Just listen to body and give it what it needs...rest, pain medication, fluids, protein and periods of activity and you will do great.

    Pre-op timeline... Help!

Your Bariatric office staff should be well versed in your insurance company's requirements. I just followed what the office stated I need to go and everything went well.
  16. Weight Watcher is great if you need to lose just a little, but it is not sustaining. I have been successful with WW, but the weight alway came back on. I needed a tool greater than my knowledge on what I should and should not eat. I needed help with portion control. That is what the sleeve is providing me. I am sorry to hear that your PCP was not supportive. That is sad. My internal medicine doc was very glad to hear that I was planning on the surgery.
  17. Hello Everyone, I am 19 days out since surgery and I have lost 18 pounds. I am not sure how to rate the lost, but I believe it is Ok. There are two ladies at work that talk about " forgetting to eat" since they had surgery. I am still on full liquids and NEVER forget to eat. I get hungry. Is that different when you are on a regular diet? Also, I have noticed that I no longer have to sip fluids. I can drink normally. Is that sometime that I should not still do? My exciting news....My blood sugar numbers are NORMAL!!!! I have not taken any of the 3 medications that I was on since surgery.
  18. Yep, that is where I had my surgery . Great hospital and a positive expetience
  19. Hi. I recognize your doctors name. He was not my doctor, but I bet we had our surgery at the same Hospital. My surgery was Feb 24th.
  20. I am 2 weeks post-op tomorrow and I can not wait to start pureed foods. I too am having head hunger. Driving to the hardware store, I was amazed at how many restaurants I passed. I drive this route all of the time and do not usually see any of the restaurants. I am hoping that I am just thinking about food all the time because it is prohibited. I am hoping that once I do get to eat and realize that food has not been taken away from me forever, I will stop thinking about food.

    Hunger Pain

I am 6 days out and I am trying to figure out the different sensations. I too get this " hot poker" pain for a few seconds. I am not sure if that is hunger or if it is when Fluid is passing a certain point. I am also trying to figure out then I am full. I do not have the normal feeling that I define as being full. I have a pressure sensations.
  22. At this moment reading some the post I feel like " I can do this". There were several moments day where I wonder if i was making the right choose. I guess it is good that I am not going into this lightly ( no joke intended). I did find the shake only diet difficult. i missed chewing I think. I hope there is a difference with pre-op hungry liquid diet and the post=op liquid diet. I am praying the intake of just liquids will not bother me since I should not have the hunger. My bag is packed...not taking much and the alarm is set for 4AM. I sure hope that I can sleep tonight and that I will have a sense of peace in the morning. Please stay a little prayer for me around 7Am tomorrow.
  23. Hi, Where in Texas are you? I am in Houston and my surgery is schedule for tomorrow.

To tell or not to tell?

I have chosen only to tell a select view ( people I know who have had the surgery). My boss does not even know what I am doing. I decided to just take vacation time instead of medical leave of absence. I know, others will catch on, but i just wanted to be surrounds my people who would cheer be on
