    Self pay- positives?

Looks like I'm going to be 100% self pay. Which sucks. It's not fair since my husband and I actually work for a living we can't get Obama care and have WLS paid for. Irritates me beyond no end. Anyways... What are some positives of being self pay? Any suggestions on new insurance companies in KY that would cover WLS? TIA!
  2. I would like to hear the good, bad and ugly. My husband and I are self pay but both wanting the surgery. He is very much against going to Mexico. I'm very hesitant myself.

    Losing slowly

My Dr. mentioned since I am a band to sleeve patient that I will more than likely lose at a slower rate than normal new sleevers. Have you found this to be true? It's fine to me to lose slow as long as I continue to lose.

    Changing insurances

Has anyone successfully switched insurances to find one that does cover WLS? Mine through my work does not. I know if I switch the monthly payment will go up, but I thought it might be worth it.

    Changing insurances

Thanks for your help. We have decided to go to Mexico with Dr. A. It's so much cheaper there and after doing so much research and talking with the Dr. I feel 100% comfortable this is the right direction.
  6. Hey y'all! My husband and I are having the surgery sometime this year in Mexico with Dr. A! I'm so excited and anxious. However we cannot decide on a time that works for us both. I want the surgery ASAP in April while I'm on spring break. (I'm a teacher) My husband is self employed and runs his own machine shop and farms part time. In April he worries it will be too busy of a time of year for him. He will be needing to put up a new fence to get his hay field ready and that usually is a busy time at the shop for him. He wants to wait until July. This upsets me to no end. I'm so ready to start this new journey and start living again! He can take the week off of surgery and can be restrictive with his heavy lifting for 3 weeks or so but my question is for people who have fairly physical jobs, how long before you were back to work and felt comfortable completing your normal task without fear of hurting yourself?

    Restriction time post recovery

Thank you for your replies. We'd really like to have it together at the same time for travel purposes and support. I'm just really trying to talk him into being able to be "light duty" for 2-3 weeks if needed. But I don't want him to hurt himself either.
  8. Anyone in KY area have self employed insurance meaning they have to buy it theirselves and it cover WLS? My husband is self employed and has Anthem, it doesn't cover. I have Anthem through my work and it doesn't cover it either. Really needing new plans!

    Insurance coverage in KY?

That's what we're doing. Dr. A? I really like him and his staff so far. I'm nervous about the surgery but not the Mexico part. I feel comfortable with it now. I've talked to so many people with such great reviews. I'd love to chat more but I hate these forum boards. Do you have FB? Is so would you want to private message me on there? My name is Elizabeth O'Donoghue
  11. I too am from KY and looking into Dr. A for my surgery. Glad your experience was good. Sorry about your husband! Dang the luck huh?!
  12. Thank you! I'm how do you schedule him "through" Bariatric Pal?
  13. Also would it be best for us to do the surgery together, at the same time or separate?

    Self pay- positives?

So using a credit card? How were you able to do that? If you didn't pay it all off that following month $15,000 would rack up a lot of interest wouldn't it? My doc let me pay in installments. I broke the full amount into 3rds, had the office charge the installment to my card every month for 3 months. I had the full amount in my savings, and would pay off the card in full each month. That's the only way I'd use the credit card (I don't do interest charges!) That makes sense! Smart! My husband and I don't do interest charges either! Haha. I've got to come up with a plan.

    Self pay- positives?

Wow! All great points. Thank you everyone. My next question is if I'm self pay will I have to pay all at once? Or will I be able to make payments? If I do payments will they make me wait to pay it off before they do it?

    Changing insurances

Well neither of ours covers it so I have been shopping around trying to just find insurance that will. However, I'm so new to this so I don't even know where to begin.
  18. I would love to chat back and fourth like y'all but I can't quite figure this forum stuff out. I can reply to a topic at the bottom like I am now. I get that. But then I'll receive an email if someone types after me then I click the link and it takes me back here but I can't reply again. Then I can't remember the titles or topics so I can't ever find the chat again. Am I technological inclined? Haha.
  19. Thank you Jamie. I will try to do more research.

    APPROVED BY AETNA!

Is atena a private health care provider? I'm looking for new insurance that would cover WLS.
  21. I can't fathom the idea of going to Mexico for the surgery. This idea scares me so much. It sounds so fishy. My husband is totally against it. I am worried about post op and travel. By the time you pay for travel and hotel wouldn't you be about the same in money? What websites should I visit to make me feel better about this idea.
  22. I have the band now. Looking into the sleeve.
  23. That's where I'm looking at too. I had a friend do it there and loved it. I live in Hardinburg KY.

    Insurance doesn't cover surgery.

How did you do follow up appointments?

    Kentucky welcome

I'm from Ky. Hardinsburg. Between Louisville and Owensboro. I am looking into getting the sleeve in Nashville at the Vanderbilt center for weight loss surgery. Anyone else go this route? Also my insurance doesn't cover. :-( any advise there?
