I've read all of James Masurek's articles and recommend them. Really good,straightforward information.

I've had sensitive skin issues my whole life. Benadryl is a good suggestion. Nothing is worse than that itching feeling. Niacin can be a big problem. Had hives over my whole body when doc put me on that one time. If you are getting good relief from the steroid cream, keep with it. It saves my life. And nerves.

I love the hating salads part too. My favorite is my sister who told me I just needed to go for a walk to lose weight. When I'm 150 overweight. A walk.

Not to mention your body still has a lot of anesthesia drugs it is trying to throw off from the surgery. Those do not help us post op, but they do leave you eventually.

Very interesting. But that must be what he has seen with his patients. I have a very good friend who had the sleeve and he has done great with it. Has lost all his weight. Exercises all the time (because he likes it). His wife lost her weight by dieting and working out and I think they are having second childhoods because they just feel so great!

Be proactive when it comes to getting your insurance approved. In other words, double check with the insurance company that all tests and forms are completed. Then make sure you have met your surgeon's instructions. I've had to treat getting prepared as a part time job. There is a Lot to learn. Ask questions. Come back to this forum. I think I have learned the most right here.

According to my urologist, calcium citrate is better for your kidneys/bladder but my surgeon's info indicated to get calcium citrate as well.

Thank you so much for posting this! I have looked for easy to take fits because I know I'll have trouble swallowing, but I also have trouble chewing the chewable vitamins. I found some vitamin patches on Amazon that I'm going to start using tomorrow but I suspect those will irritate my skin at some point. Yay melt on your tongue. $80 doesn't sound all that high for what all you bought.

It seems to me that happens in any medical treatment I've had. So far, I've only had a $100 fee that had to come straight out of pocket, but I've just begun my process. So far I haven't been told of any other costs that won't be covered other than my co pays. And every insurance is different so it's hard to say. I won't be surprised if I have more.

Wow. That seems weird he would be mad you want rny over sleeve. Well, maybe not weird. Sometimes I've noticed doctors have problems with patients being their own advocates. What were his reason for wanting the sleeve? From what I hear the band and the sleeve are much less effective with more problems.

I went in to the surgeon with the idea in the back of my mind that sleeve was safer,but told the surgeon I would leave the decision up to him. He said rny and explained the reasons it was safer AND more effective for me. I'm not sure I can recall exactly each reason but the amount of weight I need to lose was a contributing factor. I remember he said because I loved sweets was a reason, due to the malabsorption of the rny - fewer fats and carbs and calories can be absorbed. Also I have really bad arthritis and my excess weight is starting to really break down my bones - I need to lose as quickly as possible. Pain management doc said I would be in a wheelchair on morphine within a year unless I had bariatric surgery right away. Bariatric surgeon convinced me that the rny was safest and quickest way to do it. Said sleeve was more invasive because they cut and actually remove so much of your stomach and because of acid reflux that is often caused by the sleeve. He convinced me that is what I need but each person is different and each surgeon has a different way of evaluating a patient's needs.

I was told the same. No caffeine of any kind.

You have begun a change of a lifetime. This tool we are receiving is going to give me back my life. I am in almost constant emotional upheaval these last few days, crying at everything, getting angry with my sister and brother for not being supportive. I had to remind myself why I'm doing this. I want to enjoy the rest of my time here on earth. It seems like a lot of people go through these emotional stages while they are preparing for WLS. I think it is normal. You are so close. Imagine how much fun you are going to have when you are able to run around the playground! What fun!

@edie091371. Thanks I'll check out the Nivea. I know that is a good brand and I know I have miles of stretch marks and skin sags to firm. I don't have a date yet. I'm still doing my prove up for the insurance company. I have about 2 more weeks of that, then labs, then everything to the insurance company. I didn't expect this to be so nervewracking, just the getting stuff ready and the wait. But there it is. We're all going through it.

Where do you find PB2? This is the first I've heard of it. Sounds like it would be a great way to boost protein. I won't eat Jiffy ph or the other name brands because they have a lot of sugar added.
