Mind playing tricks 9 days pre-op
Hi folks, 9 days to surgery and excited, but it's funny the tricks my mind is playing with me. Let me explain. I'm 6-2" and 252lbs now with very wide shoulders so truth is I don't look all that overweight to many many people. Now I've gotten down to this weight doing Atkins pre-op the last two months losing 30 + lbs. Additionally I have an ex-wife best friend who is saying it's a mistake, that I can do it "this time" because I have strong support around me, etc. So part of me is wondering if she's right. Well then I remember what my life's really been like, and I realize, sure, I've lost this 50 to 60 lbs many times, around SIX TIMES, of course always gaining back all of it plus some. It's been a demoralizing ride, and now at 60 the co-morbid problems are no laughing matter. THanks, I just needed to vent. I can't wait for this new life to start. And to have this new incredibly powerful behavior mod tool to add to my now daily walks, 3 times a week gym, daily meditation, therapy, Bariatric support group, YOU GUYS, thanks and God bless you all!!! Let's do this thing....

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?
9 days to go for me, very excited!! You know, one thing that always has made me curious is how everyone talks about pre-op diets, and I wonder if they're talking about about just generally trying to lose as miuch weight as possible for the surgery or if their doctors placed them on liquid diets or whatnot prior to surgery. After reading people talking about it here, I asked my surgeon and he said No, just a clear liquid diet from the NIGHT before, but that's it... hmmmmm I guess many surgeons have different takes on this.

Is this normal?

2 oz cup
Hi folks, I saw someone mention a 2oz little cup or something they found helpful to use post op, I can't find it. Does anyone know where one could get a little thing like that so it's easy to know how much you're eating? I just spent around 80 bucks on Amazon getting a scale, liquid tylenol, liq Vitamins, etc. getting ready for Feb10th...!! thanks antemano, p

Post-surgery pain?
Thanks so much for asking this question, that's one thing I've been loving about this site is that people ask every question I've thought to ask and many that never occurred to me. I'm a huge baby as well as a recovering drug addict so I'm a bit concerned about what kind of pain they usually send one home with, anyone know? Bt it's arranged for my roommate to pick up, hold and dispense any pain meds.

Decaf coffee
Caffeine and other elements in coffee are a bit abrasive and iritate new surgical "joints" or linings of the stomach

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?
MICHELLE RING!! Oh my goodness, I'm a high school Spanish teacher in western Mass having surgery Wed Feb 10th, planning on being in my classroom on Monday Feb 23rd. Let's stay in touch to see how it goes, I've been a bit concerned hoping I'm not in too much pain, discomfort, etc to do my job which as you know, is a really tough draining job. Good luck to US...!!!

DiABETES - A1C too high for bypass surgery
Okay, I was told the operation was off until I could get A1C down. It was 11 and I was 274, well I went on Atkinns diet, basically just knocking down their shakes and some meat here and there and even a lot of spinach and two months later I'm 250 with an A1C of 4.5 so my surgery is Feb 10th -can't wait

How did you feel after surgery?
Wow, what a helpful little thread here, thanks so much.Yeah, the issue of post op pain is SOOOOO individual that you can only realize it's a large range from people who take JUST tylenol for a week and that's it and they're back to work in a week, to people on liquid vicodin who are laid up for weeks!! We just know we'll be somewhere in that spectrum, but that's as exact as you can get. I'm finding this site an absolute GodSend because here I can hear everyone's experience

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?
You guys, it's true, I need to stay in touch especially because hardly anyone in my little world will know. No one I work with, and only 3 family members. Yup, you guys, very very exciting. Yes, I do get a little nervous sometimes hearing the stories of follow up operations, gall bladder stuff, people's various discomforts, but I know I didn't sign on here for a cakewalk. That's why the next 25 days I want to hit the gym and walk as much as possible to go in as light and as toned as possible (chuckle, light and toned..), plus I will move heaven and earth to MAKE myself walk down those hospital hallways asap. We CAN and WILL do this thing!!! todo bien

When swallowing tablets of medicine?
Thanks for addressing this topic because I'm someone who takes around ten pills and capsules every morning and around 8 every night. I bought a "Pill Crusher" so I'm ready but the whole idea seems so strange and I'm sure it will be gross. But as with many things about this whole road we've undertaken, this will NOT be a stroll in the park and so things that are gross or extremely unpleasant? Too bad, I'll have to handle it.

When in is it safe to have a drink?
Yeah, that's what I couldn't remember: the weird way Alcohol works in the body post-surgery. They say that you'll get drunk far faster than you ever have in your life, but at the same time you'll sober up very fast as well. The potential for trouble from this is great as anyone can see; basically if you had any propensity towards over-doing it with booze before, you can get in serious trouble

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?
Yeah it'll be helpful knowing you're going through it too. I will be out of work from the 10th to the 23rd going back to teach school on that Monday Feb 23rd (?), I'm a little worried about that but I can stay seated all day. This should be one heck of an adventure, I'll keep you posted

Any February Surgery Dates Out There?
I'M WITH YA!! My date is Feb 10th - here goes nothin.... Yeah, still my excitement far outweighs my worries, that might change a bit in the coming weeks. I just came back from the gym after work, 40 min on treadmill and a buncha abdominals. Boy feels pretty good. I was 252 today, my highest has been 305lbs. I really want to go into surgery with a strong exercise routine going. Ready or not we're going soon! How damn exciting, the best, pedro
