  1. I had the same concerns as you about pregnancy and the band. I really want to get pregnant, and I've had my band for 2 months so we're not ttc right now, but we will eventually. I've asked lots of questions about this one, and my dr. told me I could get pregnant as soon as I want. Everything I've read says wait at least a year, but my dr. says that getting pregnant sooner won't hurt anything. However, he did say its generally easier to lose weight that first year, just because people usually have more motivation and are in the weight loss mode mentally. But he told me over and over that the pregnancy decision was a personal one, so I could do it with in the first year if I want to. I was kind of surprised by that, but I'm just trying hard to lose weight now, and probably start ttc between sept and Jan 09 ( I was banded Jan 08). I figure I'll just see how my weight loss goes and play it by ear for the the whole preggo thing. But I was happy that my dr. said it was totally up to me as to when I want to be pregnant again.
  2. I had my surgery 8 days ago and I still have some pain that starts under my rib cage and back pain too. My doctor said its because the diaphragm gets stretched during surgery and it's painful for a little while, especially in the back. So, he just has me taking extra ibuprofen to help with the inflammation (800mg 3 times a day), and said it will go away with time.

    Surgery on Tue!

Just wondering if I can join this thread. I'm getting banded on Tue, the 29th and I'm sooo excited! I'm also excited to be able to have soup or something. This pre-op diet (protein shakes and clear liquids) is not fun! I've been hungry all week. I know the band won't have a fill right after surgery, but willl it help with the hunger at all? Hope so, but the liquid diet is only for a couple of weeks....I can do that. Anyway, ya for lap bands!! I can't wait!!!!

    Surgery on Tue!

    Thanks guys!!!
  8. I just got my surgery date and I'm so excited! I went in today for my 1st appt. with the surgeon, and I'll have my surgery in 2 weeks. Wasn't expecting it to be that fast, but I'm glad. Now that I've decided to have the surgery, I just want to do it asap, so yay!
  9. Congrats!! That's awesome. I have my 1st appt. with the surgeon on Jan 16, so I'm really excited like you. They are gonna do the psych evaluation and nutrition thing that same day, so I should have a surgery date next week. Yay!! Anyway, I don't know if you've seen it before, but there's a really good checklist on this forum. You go to the main page on this site and click on "FAQs and references." Then there's a sticky for post op checklist. It's really good. I think there are things on there for what to do before-hand also. Anyway, congrats! Hope that helps!
  10. I am about 90% sure that I want to get a lap-band, but I have a few questions about it still. I was wondering if those of you who have had it for a while could help me out. I keep reading about PBing, and sliming, and I'm wondering how bad that really is? Does it happen at the table, unexpectedly, or do you always have time to get away? If I get a lap-band will I be gassy and constipated as long as I have the band, or do those things go away? I was reading on the thread about people who have taken their bands out, and I must admit, it kinda scared me, but it seems like most of you guys are happy about your bands, even if there are hard things about it. Anyway, I still think the good will outweigh the bad, but I'd love to hear your experiences! Thanks!

    Any regrets about getting banded?

Thank you guys! I'm getting really excited about getting a band, and I'm glad to hear how well its working for other people. There's good and bad to everything, so I'm sure the band is no different, but I'm getting more sure about the band every day. I think the good will far outweigh the bad. I'm also really glad I found this site...you guys are awesome!! I'll let you know when I get my surgery date!

    Any regrets about getting banded?

Ok, I guess asking about the gas and constipation was a dumb question. From what I've read, it sounds like its an issue for quite a few people, and I was wondering if that went away with time. Anyway, its good to know that it doesn't happen to everyone. But thanks for the answers.

    Confusion????

I don't think I'm going to tell people, except for my mom and dad. I don't think my in-laws will be very supportive, and to me its just personal, so I don't want them to know. When they ask how I lost weight, I will tell the truth and say I eat less, eat healthier, and exercise. I would even tell them that when I eat more slowly, I feel full without eating as much. It's true...Dr. Oz says it takes the brain 20 minutes to recognize that the stomach is full. So, I will just say I'm doing the Dr. Oz diet, or South Beach or a combination of both. Something like that.
  14. I'm glad you asked this. I'm just starting to look into lap band surgery and I'm 5'2" about 194, so BMI I think is 35.5. I want the surgery really bad, and I'm afraid they will say to go on a pre-op diet, which could take me below 35 BMI. Anyway...sorry I don't have a lot of advice, but I can I'm about the same BMI and I can let you know how it goes as I get more info.
