Getting nervous
I do not want to talk you out of lap band, but I will tell you I was dead set on getting lap band. It was removable, not permanent, etc. After I went to my docs seminar, I talked to a lady that was getting a revision sleeve from lap band. I have a great friend who has done wonderfully with lap band. I researched and read and researched more. I decided too many people were getting revisions and too many docs weren't doing them anymore. I decided to go with the sleeve. A big reason was the fact that I do not ever WANT to ever throw up or be nauseated. Also, I decided going back to doc for fills was a pain in the butt. I live five hours away from my doc. That was my thinking. Whatever you do, I am sure you will be successful!! It is very exciting when it is all said and done and the weight starts falling off. I am early in my weight loss but it is cool to see the lower numbers on the scale. Good luck to you !!!

Maintaining goal weight
I started my bariatric vitamins three weeks early to try get my body healthier for surgery. I am making sure I have all my protein because I absolutely do not want to lose any hair. Instead of worrying about it though I have made up my mind that if it happens it happens and it will grow back. All in all I will look better and be much healthier having the surgery.

What are you working on Pre-op?
Eric, you probably won't get headaches if you take enough time to wean off. I was pretty much weaned. I could tell when I "needed" caffeine and I drank a little coffee. Just enough, not a full cup. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Good luck!!! Eric@@ash, I called you Eric. I am sorry!!

2 weeks
I am 12 days post op. I was afraid just like you. I cheated on my pre op liquid diet about five times. To me the pre op diet was the hardest part of this whole thing. It went by really quickly to be honest. The only time I was miserable after surgery was when I had fever two different times. I have had two c sections and three knee surgeries. Yes my stomach was sore when I got up and down after the sleeve, but it was very bare able. I had morphine for 15 hours then I stopped it because I was very groggy and couldn't think. My philosophy is to take the pain meds and stay ahead of the pain. Always worked for me. I have absolutely not had one issue. I have not been nauseated at all. Everything has gone down smoothly. It is very normal to be afraid. I, many times, wondered, what if it doesn't work? Blah blah hahaha. I made up my mind it WAS going to work and I was not going to get nauseated. I have felt so good through this whole process, except for the pre op diet. Hang in there! You can do this and you will be so happy when it is all over. If you want my email address or phone number, I would be happy to give it to you and we can talk.

What are you working on Pre-op?
Oh ya. I ordered my vitamins (multi, calcium, b12 nasal spray) and started taking them three weeks prior to surgery. I do not wanna lose my hair so I take them always. I never took vitamins so I think part of why I did so well after surgery was because I had been taking them. Who knows.

What are you working on Pre-op?
I was going to suggest weaning off of caffeine if you need to get off it. Many people experience bad headaches early in pre op diet. I feel most of it is caffeine. I agree with the above posts. Start going sugar free and low fat. Practice eating slowly. I am 10 days post op and still struggle with that. I really have to work hard to get all my Water and fluids in. Thank goodness for sugar free Popsicles!! Sounds like you are on the ball. You go man! I'm excited for you. I start back to work tomorrow. Been off two weeks. Wish me luck!!!! Good luck to you!!!

Long Week Prior To Surgery The Following Week
I'll throw this in. I went to cardiologist for a letter of clearance. I expected to go in, maybe get ekg, and leave with a letter. I actually had to make two more appointments. One for a sonogram of my heart and one for stress test. I have no heart problems. I do have a Lillie high blood pressure. I certainly didn't think I needed those other two tests. Anyway it all came back normal, as expected. My point is, you might allow a little time for those tests that may or may not be required. Good luck with everything!!!

Starting pre-op protein diet tomorrow
I was told to get 100 protein. I drank premier ready to drink shakes and they each have 30 g so I reached it easily.

hernial hernia
I found out I had a hiatal hernia during scope. Had no symptoms at all. No acid reflux. I wondered if my insurance would pay differently due to that. I have Aetna and a $5000 co pay. I am going to check into it although I have my doubts. I would think your insurance would pay for your hernia surgery. While doc is in there, have your WLS

Stray Observations a Few Days Out...
Y'all are cracking me up!!! I have to admit, I thought my face looked exceptionally wrinkle free..... Well almost. I am 50 and know each square millimeter of my wrinkles. Man, I couldn't believe it!!!!!!!! Better than Botox!!!!!! I go back to work Monday and I dread it. I love my job and I am one of the lucky ones who had almost no pain and absolutely no nausea. I have been off two weeks and I love not having to do anything but walk if I want to!!!! I know, sounds lazy . I am in west texas and despise cold weather. It has been cold here. I have really enjoyed snuggling up with my blanket ( I can actually semi curl up due to the 20 lbs I have lost). Good luck to all of you!!!!!!

When does the gas pain subside?
My two nights in the hospital I slept mostly sitting up. I think I may have also a night or two at home, but now am flat down.

When does the gas pain subside?
I only had discomfort of gas in chest and back. I read on here to walk and walk and walk and walk. Also, the doctor told me that doing the deep breathing thing (hahaha sorry, I cannot think of the correct name of it....incentive something ) that you blow into helps with that also.

So hungry!
Curvybrit, I have heard that. I don't feel like I need it, and my doc has not discussed it with me. Maybe I will bring it up at my apt.

Hair loss
What all have you used? I am 12 days post op and losing my hair is my biggest fear. I started bariatric vitamins, prescription, a month ago. Nasal spray b12 and chewable multi vitamin and chewable calcium, 1800 mg, a day. I hope that will keep me from losing hair. You may check out the vitamins. Google nascobal b12 nasal spray. It costs me $25 a month. I was taught also to take 600 mg (I think mg, I would have to check out my bottle) of calcium at a time. Also how much protein a day are you getting in? It is imperative that you get that protein in for hair growth.

December 21st surgery
Coffee..... I thought I could no longer have caffeine so I started weaning off two weeks prior. I did not want to have horrible caffeine headaches along with a liquid diet. Then I found out I could have coffee and tea with no cream and sugar so all was well again.

December 21st surgery
Your doc should give you all the choices you can have. They all differ so much. Is it just liquid? I read on here to bring gas x strips. The nurse told me I could not have them but my doc said I could when he came in. I really didn't need them much as I never really had gas pain, just some discomfort. Bring a robe for when you are walking the halls and house shoes. That is really all I needed. I brought clothes to go home in but some people wear what they wore up there; just nothing right around stomach.
