  1. My doctors office said that the body can't absorb more than 30g of protein at a time. Better make sure you're able absorb all of it before you waste your money.
  2. The weirdest thing I've noticed since my surgery is that I can't gargle anymore.
  3. They can do a simple swap of your cheek or a blood test. They do this for life of insurance as well.
  4. My surgery was scheduled @ 12:30 on Tuesday. I arrived at the hospital at 10. Registered, taken back for my IV, vitals taken. Moved to the prep and holding area about 11am. The surgical nurse comes out about 11:30to tell me that there is a delay and we definitely will not be going back at 12:30. Hours go by, my butt is numb, my family is hungry and the I'm wondering what in the world could be taking so long., Is there complications? Are they ok? Not good thoughts to be having before surgery. Finally about 4 the surgeon comes out to tell me that they are preparing the OR and will be another 40 mins. Well they can't estimate very well, an hour and half later I'm wheeled into surgery. I "barely" wake up in recovery. I hear the nurse say "she's sound asleep". They wheel me to my room about 10:30. (No wonder I'm tired). I remember using the bathroom and sleeping all day Wednesday. That's it lol. The doctor came in late Wednesday to tell me that because I was still very sleepy and the hernia repair he was keeping me another day. Good thing, my ride had left. Who gets discharged after 8pm? Today I was able to walk and get some fluids and broth down. Ice pops are a God send at home. Looking forward to feeling better
  5. My surgery was delayed from 12:30 to 5:30, didn't get into my room until 10:30 pm on Tuesday. Spent all of Wednesday sleeping. Dr kept me a second day because of this and the hernia repair. Not hungry at all so getting broth down is a challenge. Can't wait to be home.
  6. Wow, thanks! This has giving me hope. The first race around here is at the end of April. He said that course is a little difficult but I think I'm going to go for it. (It's a trail run)
  7. That sucks. No advise other than file an appeal with your insurance.. Take it to the head honcho.
  8. It goes by so fast. I started this process in June
  9. I'm right there with you. I've started to pack my hospital bag. Getting my forms together, cooking my broth, trying to stay busy. It's not helping with my mind wandering.
  10. I'm the office manager for our family business. I also have a custom cake business on the side, I've taken a step back from this to concentrate on my health. I did have a cake order last weekend ( on my pre-op diet) and I wasn't tempted to taste test. This was a big victory. I would usually eat part of the cake tops and leftover icing.
  11. My kids bought me a sweatshirt for Christmas 2014 that I can't fit into..I will be wearing it this year! The car parking thing is me! I hate trying to get out or having to crawl to the passenger side. Of course going shopping for normal clothes and no longer wearing granny panties! ☺️
  12. Aaaaaggggghhh ok I feel better, well not really. Its hard to believe that the day I've worked for, longed for is almost here. My nerves are gone.,haven't been sleeping well. Tomorrow I'm off work with plenty to do but I doubt my mind will let me focus.
  13. Welcome. ???? Congrats on the new baby! You sure do have a lot going on and we are all at different stages so you can get plenty of information. My surgery is Tuesday and I will say the process yet long, has gone by fast.
  14. Nerves are setting in.. I just want to be done and home. Spending tomorrow making Soups to be ready. Freezer is stocked with pops plenty of shakes and yogurt.. Hurry up Tuesday
  15. I agree..today for instance we went to the movies...I'm a popcorn person..but today I brought in my "purse" with yogurt, pudding & celery sticks. It was something to munch on and I didn't cheat ????
  16. I carry my lunch box with me everywhere. It's filled with things I can eat during my 2 weeks. I imagine I'll be carrying it forever now. It looks like a purse. It has helped me tremendously keeping on track because I'm not tempted to order from the menu or not go out to eat all together.
  17. How soon after surgery did you start running? There's a big race in May.. I may start with the 5k By big I mean there's a 5k, 10k, half and doing all three together
  18. Just keep in mind too few calories can be just as bad. I'm getting 800-1000 cal a day with about 100 grams of protein
  19. My husband is a runner.. I want nothing more than to run with him. The problem, he's a distance runner. An ultra runner. Im afraid that I won't be able to even run a half marathon because of the restrictions of how much I will be able to drink and eat. Has anyone had the surgery and been able to start running? How did you handle the calorie intake, hydrate exc.
  20. Every doctors pre-op is different. My pre-op diet was 4 shakes a day (2 with milk & 2 with another liquid) if I mixed them with Water I could have 5. I could also eat 6 servings of s/f pudding, s/f Jello, unflavored applesauce, 1 cup raw veggie, oatmeal and yogurt a day. The day before surgery I can eat normal till 4 pm, then I have to drink 32oz mirlax over 4 hrs starting at 5 pm. That's the only thing that doesn't sound pleasant.. I think I'd rather have the 2 day clear liquid diet. The plus... I've lost 11 lbs on my 2 week pre-op
  21. Holy crap guys, it's almost game time freaking out a little
  22. I'm still pre-op but during my 7 months of education classes they taught us about this. It is very common to become Lactose intolerant. They recommend switching to Lactaid. You may eventually be able to drink milk again but they also warned that there could be other foods that you could no longer be able to eat. That we should introduce new foods one at a time.
  23. I find that I'm not hungry.. I have to force myself to eat. It's very odd. I can't wait for next week to have more choices.. 2 weeks of unjury is ???? That is good for you, that your not hungry. My head has been hurting for 2 days since I'm eating so little. I'm just so nervous / scared that I'm not making the right decision. It was hard in the beginning..but this is week two for me. It hasn't been all sunshine lol
  24. The bypass also comes with malabsorption and the dumping syndrome. This is less of a risk with the sleeve.
