For me, this has been the toughest year of my life! Since January, on my birthday no less, things have been on a downward spiral after a difficult work situation where I was bullied by a manager. I have been suffering from depression/anxiety ever since. Trying to get through that, I began to feel more selfish and took real stock of my life -- I've spent so long pleasing others and being passive -- now I feel like I need to put myself first, my needs first and do what I want to do! It started with a lovely holiday by myself, relaxing in the sun for a week, and now finally -- after years of contemplation -- having this surgery and becoming a healthy, happy person!

This thread is so motivating/inspiring. I can't wait to be where some of you post-op folks are at.

Hi, I also had a similar situation with the procedure being £2000 cheaper with a different group but not being as close to home -- but having a closer look, the more expensive one close to home offers a year of aftercare, while the cheaper one doesn't have a lot of aftercare. Look into the fine print! Also, the surgeon has to let you know the risks/pros/cons of every surgery, there's always a risk with any surgery, but ultimately for a lot of us I think it's one worth taking. An experienced surgeon will help you through it and it's on you to ask lots of questions -- your surgeon said 1 in 200 can go wrong, but maybe ask him how many times he's had that issue personally? Chin up, keep fighting!

Hi guys, I have just signed up, and boy am I glad that a resource/support forum like this exists! I am just in the beginning stages of my journey after years of contemplating having surgery and only now being financially solvent to do it... I had my consultation yesterday with Dr. Mannur in London and I was suggested to go with the gastric sleeve, after doing my research, I feel confident with this choice too! I also had a lovely chat with a receptionist at the hospital who had the same procedure performed by the same doctor, she really assured me that it is life-changing and the best thing she'd ever done. She just seemed to radiate positivity and happiness -- I was amazed! I'm so excited to begin this journey and am so glad this website exists to help me along the way. Lovely to meet you all...
