December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
@Mistie I think it's great that you can do your weight loss visits over the phone. That also saves you co-pays (if you have any). I wish Anthem BCBS offered this to me as a viable option. Good luck!

Junk Food Advertising or The Bane of My Existence
I feel like the sucker that they are targeting in the commercials. I try to DVR almost everything so that I can avoid these evil commercials. Why can't anyone make exercise and healthy eating look sexy! I wouldn't be surprised if these commercials involve some sort of deranged hypnotherapy! Anyways, I am done with my rant and am glad that you decided to make a post about this topic. P.S.: I am looking up this commercial

December 2015 or January 2016 sleevers ?
You have started the process, it might not seem like much now, but you have definitely started. I still have yet to meet the surgeon but I guess that's not too important since I am so far away. I am having trouble thinking about anything other than this surgery. How about you? I am trying to focus on losing weight right now to get this process started....

I just had my Month Two weight loss visit and psych eval on 7/16/15. I will be done with the weight loss visits in Nov. and my surgery should be sometime in early Dec. How about you?

Anthem BCBS high deductible plan
Hey Leesa926, I read your post and it caught my attention. I had my first consultation in June and had the wind knocked out of my chest when they told me Anthem BCBS requires 6 months of weight loss counseling. I honestly believe that this is a tactic to get people to back out so that they do not have to pay out for the surgery. Why else would you tell a morbidly obese person to wait 6 months before they could lose the weight that is killing them slowly? My BMI is only 43 which means I cannot lose more than 30 lbs or I will be disqualified. I tried to get my 6 months waived because I have been doing a weight loss coaching program through Anthem since October 2014 and they said that it did not count because it was not doctor-supervised. Sounds like we are both in the same boat and will have surgery around the same time... Best of luck!

Federal BCBS FEP Basic coverage, straddling the BMI line.
I would honestly wear the heaviest clothes I could find to my consultations if I were you. I also have BCBS and it sucks that they are requiring me to complete 6 months of nutrition counseling before qualifying me for the surgery. I only say this because I was told by my counselor that if my weight drops below 40 BMI, that I will be disqualified. They are actually telling me to stay morbidly obese for 6 months but to follow the nutritional guidelines at the same time. Sounds kind of sick, right?

Question about insurance/out of pocket
My insurance company (BCBS) covers 100% of the expenses but there is a $1,000 deductible. I am also responsible for all co-pays with visits associated with the surgery. If you have a healthcare spending account, it would be a great help!
