Hi, my name is Kathy and I had gastric bypass surgery on May 26, 2015. I am will be 2 weeks post-op on June 9th and as of this morning I'm down 28.2 pounds since my 2 week pre-op diet began. My weight loss surgery journey began a year and half prior to my actual surgery working with my primary physician on losing weight 'naturally', but I could not maintain the loss. Being pre-diabetic, my doctor encouraged me to have surgery to avoid diabetes and complications i would have from the onset. My mother recently passed from a stroke and I knew that I did not want to travel that same road. She had diabetes and had many complications from the disease. I'm praying that through surgery I can get a grip on the control that food has had over me throughout my whole life. I'm not going to lie, I love food. Like most people, social events and family events, have always been centered around food and I view it as more than a means of nutrition, food is about friendship, fellowship, laughter, memories, and sorrow. The most difficult part of this journey has been the protein shakes. It was easy at first, but now I gag every time I try to drink a protein shake. I can't seem to get past the taste and consistency.  I miss chewing and tasting real food. So far there is nothing wrong with my sense of smell (haha), but it's driving me crazy that I cannot eat anything. My appointment with the dietitian is Tuesday and I pray that I get to move on to 'food'. I want a poached egg and avocado in the worst way!!!
Has anyone else had this same struggle?
