  1. Hi Naomi, I am scheduled for August 18th as well. I was originally schedules for June 14th for dumb young endocrinologist wanted some tests and it took 1 month to get the results. Those tests had already been done last year by my regular endocrinologist and all was fine. So I was not happy. Now, everything is fine and I am on for August 18. It IS getting scary now.....I have been waiting since last June for appointment and to be put on the list. I live in Canada, our health insurance plan in Québec pays for it. I am 63 years old, Type 2 diabetic with an insulin pump getting more and more resistant to the insulin. I have asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver and went through Thyroid cancer this past Winter! Oh, I also have extremely severe sleep apnea and have to sleep with CPap with I absolutely HATE. I am 5'7'' and weigh between 215, now at 204 with thyroid meds. I also have a crazy sweet tooth!!! That will be the most difficult thing to get away from although I am much better than I used to be. I have been married for 38 years and my love is 6'l'' and weighs 160 on his heavy day, that is with jeans on! He will probably lose when I stop baking. I am planning to go to Florida, leaving here Sept 22, 5 weeks after surgery and stay at the beach for the month of October. We have a trailer, we will take our time driving down. Lets keep in touch, we could help ea other through this. Renée-Louise
  2. Thank you John. I am 63, 70lbs overweight and on an insulin pump. Quite healthy in spite of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high glucose. Meds keep bp in check and cholesterol as well. My main reason for the surgery is try to cure my diabetes and feel better with 70 lbs less. I will cancel my September at the beach and make it for October only that way I will be at 6 weeks when I leave. At least, we are pulling a trailer and all my food and stuff can be prepared and kept cool all the way, maybe we can add a day so it is shorter in the truck every day. I will let you know how my surgery goes on August 18.
  3. John, I am having my by-pass on August 18. I was supposed to leave on holiday on September 3rd, driving 5 days of 5hrs a day to get there. My husband drives. Am I crazy to still think I could do this? Or I should really post-pone and if so by how long do you think? How did you feel at the 2.5 3 weeks mark? I would appreciate if you could answer me. Thank you.
  4. Hi, My date is August 18. First I was June 18, cancelled then July 14, cancelled and now my new date is August 18. Marking the calendar ....again... I got my Protein for pre-op liquid diet from my doctor's office but I bought some from costco for after the surgery. If you have one near your home, you could check. I will definitely make a provision of broth, Jello and such. Hope I am not cancelled again.
