  1. Hopefully people will check the dates of posts before they reply to them in such a friendly way!
  2. That comedian probably had his guts cut and spliced back together...that is the great thing about lapband...no intestinal or stomach cutting...just a simple belt placed around your stomach to make a smaller pouch. Do your research and share it with your hubby. With my husband it is a financial thing... GOOD LUCK! Cheri
  3. fernwade, many meds are available in liquids some can be crushed and taken with applesause others may not bother you too much I am also wanting to be banded...waiting on hubby to come around but I also have fibromyalgia and arthritis and some others things going on...DO THIS! Your doctor will help you with your medications but this is an awesome oricedure with awesome results!
  4. Wow! The seminar I went to told horror stories of comlication you can have with the gastric by-pass and other very invasive surgeries. Yes, it might take longer but #1 if you work the band it will work for you (from what I hear) and #2 you can always have it removed...by-pass is not a reversible procedure...it is meant to last...You also get MUCH better absorption with the band since your food goes through the stomach and all of the intestines it needs to to be absorbed. So many by-passers have to get B12 shots or something of the sort. If you would never consider having by-pass then the band is for you!. Cheri
  5. CANCER is a very scary word. I remember when my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999 I cried! I don't care who you are...it is scary. Just realize that it is not a death sentence and many many times breast cancer patients are SURVIVORS!! I will pray for your mother and for you! I hope that you have a relationship with God because He is a God of peace even in times of trouble! "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!" Isaiah 26:3 Many Blessings, Cheri
  6. So, you are having great results and you have been wonderfully happy with him? I just called his office and at first they didn't want to tell me an approximate cost then the lady finally said $25,000. WHOA! I thought that I had read on LBT that he was closer to $10,600. She said that she could not opfficially tell me ANYTHING about the cost until I come in and see the doctor. I am self pay so I'm not only looking for a good doc but a good price as well. Does this sound right to you? Anything you could tell me would be SO much appreciated! THANKS!
  7. They won't cover! It's written in the policy that wls is excluded from coverage even with other medical reasons. No exceptions!
  8. If you are using powder you can put it in the blender as directed and add a tbsp peanut butter in either vanilla OR chocolate. Buy frozen strawberries (I like whole unsweetened) Freeze banana slices or other fruits and put in blender with your shakes. Blend well so you have little to no chunks. If you know anyone that sells ADVOCARE those shakes are GREAT! I haven't been banded but I drink these already for breakfast and they really are good, packed full of vitamins and protein!
  9. Dick Trickle raced NASCAR for years and years! My son once got tonge-tied and said "Trick Dickle"!
  10. OK...ya'll pray for him (hubby) to come around!!!
  11. ok...Texarkana isn't exactly DFW but I'm there a bunch and I am lloking into DFW docs to do the procedure...(I'm self pay so it has to be a great price)!
  12. I need someone to give me the information on how I can contact Dr. Wade Baker who does Lap-Band surgery in the Dallas area. THANKS! You may send it to my e-mail if you wish... cheridoodle@cableone.net
  13. As I type this my husband is at the pharmacy where he works filling prescriptions (on his day off), free of charge and gathering a list of over-the-countner medications for the Red Cross. We have MANY MANY evacuees in our town and he said that there are busses bringing in 900 more this afternoon and evening. (We are in Texarkana, AR/TX) Whether you are close enough to help physically or not you can make a donation, no matter how small. It will be used in GREAT ways! Either donate to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, your local church or wherever you can. Donate blood if you can. I know this is a great place to vent but if this is all we do about it then we are not doing enough! These people are desparate and need our help! Thanks! I just had to vent! Cheri, Texarkana USA
  14. It's ALL about the money I think.
  15. I received an e-mail from a friend today and the signature on the bottom is a quote that I must share and I can't think of a better place to share it! <table _base_href="file://C:" id="INCREDIMAINTABLE" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody _base_href="file://C:"> <tr> <td id="INCREDITEXTREGION" style="font-size: 10pt; cursor: auto;" valign="top" width="100%"> Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "WOW, what a ride" </td></tr> <tr> <td id="INCREDIFOOTER" width="100%"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="100%"> </td> <td id="INCREDISOUND" align="middle" valign="bottom"> </td> <td id="INCREDIANIM" align="middle" valign="bottom"> </td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody> </table> Anyway...like one commercial says..."Grab life by the horns!" I have a feeling many of you "banders" have grabbed life by the horns and are saying , "WOW, what a ride!" Many Blessings! Cheri
  16. I'm also a TEXAN! I'm from Texarkana, TX. I would love to hear from some fellow Texans!! Welcome to the boards...I am new here, myself and am in the "looking" phase. To me this sounds too good to pass up! Cheri
  17. Hey there! I have been "lurking" for a few days. GREAT SITE for support and encouragement! Also seems like a great place to educate yourself on "THE BAND". I am still in the decision stage. Actually I have decided that I definately want to do this but am waiting on my "ANTI-CHARGE" hubby to come around and say we can borrow some money for this. Our insurance will not pay and "if we can't pay cash we don't need it!" I guess I would be considered a "lightweight" since I have about 75 pounds to lose. I am 5'1" and weigh about 192. I am 42 years old with three children and a husband. (He really is great...he just likes to pay cash). Last fall I began having knee problems and ended up having arthroscopic surgery on my right knee over the summer. I was told that I am looking forward to knee replacement down the road...did I mention I am only 42? YIKES! I also have hbp and diabetes runs in the family so we MUST get this weight off! I'll be praying over this and hope this won't take long to get to the point where I will have support for this procedure at home! PRAYER can make great things happen! MANY BLESSINGS! Cheri
  18. I haven't been banded yet...waiting for hubby to come around!
  19. This is an herbal supplement advertisement that comes up when you do a google search on bariatric surgery or Lap-Band. Of course like most of us know...many of these ads carry with them many dollars of false hope. I've sure been there and done that enough times that I don't want to go there again! Please let me know if you kow anything about this. Thanks a million! Cheri
  20. Dr. Wellborn did my friend's surgery! I live in Texarkana but would drive to Little Rock (2 hour drive). I am self pay and would like to ask what it would cost to use Dr. Wellborn. And BTW...I have family in Conway! I used to spend the summers there when I was growing up
  21. rgfair How are you doing? Can you give me contact info on Dr. Wade Barker? How long did it take you from inquiry to surgery? I am also self pay but want to stay close to home...I am in Texarkana, TX but would be ewilling to go to Dallas. My e-mail is cheridoodle@cableone.net Cheri
  22. I too am looking to lose about 70 lbs. I want this so badly! I have my mind made up I just don't know the who, what, when, where...etc. I am in Texarkana, TX and my insurance is through Wal-Mart and they won't cover. I need all the finance info I can get...my husband is Mr. Anti-credit himself and likes to pay CASH for everything. Needless to say, I don't have that kind of cash sitting around. I have to convince him that I have 70 to lose now and at this rate I don't see it coming off any other way! I am 5'1, 192 lbs, 42 and have recently returned to college to get a degree in education. If I don't get this weight off I won't be in good enough physical condition to teach when I graduate! I AM READY TO DO THIS!! Keep the encouragement coming...ya'll do a grat job on LBT!!!
  23. I am "just looking" and have been researching this for quite some time. I finally talked to my husband aout it and attended a seminar in my hometown just yesterday. I am looking for people who have used doctors in the Little Rock, AR, Texarkana, TX, and Dallas areas. My husband works for Wal-Mart who won't pay for weight loss surgeries so I will have to finance this somehow (my husband is an "anti-charge and pay cash for everything" kind of guy). Anybody from my area who also had to "bargin hunt"?
