  1. Did you get a card from your surgeon to show to waiters that let you order off the kids menu? Are most places receptive to this?
  2. I have a Vitamix and wonder how useful it will be following surgery. I am not sure what to expect during my first few months as to what I'll be eating. I meet with the nutritionist in a few weeks and will find out more then, but I'm curious if any of you use a blender regularly for meals?
  3. Had RNY on January 12 and have been fighting a cluster headache ever since. I have meds that take the edge off but it never completely goes away. I'm trying to stay hydrated. Just wondering if anyone else had headaches to deal with after surgery?

    Headache after surgery

Ah, never even thought of caffeine withdrawal!
  5. Has anyone been able to discontinue using their CPAP machine after surgery? That's one of my big hopes!

    No pre-op diet?

A lot of posts that I have read talk about pre-op diets. My doctor has said nothing about any kind of special diet that I should be following in the weeks leading up to my January 12th RNY. My next appointment isn't until January 7th. Do some doctors just not require a special diet ahead of time?
  7. Curious to know how surgery has changed your social life? I have become so secluded (self imposed) since gaining 100 lbs over the past five years. I am confident that this surgery will bring back my confidence and eliminate embarrassment I've felt when out in public. I used to love being around people and am so excited to get a new lease on life!

    January Surgery Dates!

@@dayciavu I've seen a Facebook group for January 2016 sleevers but not RNY. I'm interested too.
  9. Did any of you do this on your own? Or is it typically part of the medical process that will be done at the hospital at all?

    January Surgery Dates!

January 12!! Thank goodness I have Christmas to look forward to because I am so excited for surgery! Waiting for the nerves to kick in though.

    I won't regret this...right?

This is a very helpful thread. Thanks everyone! My surgery is January 12. Just excited right now but know nerves will set in soon!
  12. I have told only a very few people that I was considering surgery. So far only my husband and employer knows. When I mentioned it to my mom, she kind of freaked out and said how terrible my life would be after surgery and how I wouldn't be able to ever eat normal again, yada yada, complications, etc. Therefore, I'm hesitant to tell her it is going to happen in January. If I don't tell her, she'll of course notice at the next family gathering when I'm eating only a very small amount. We live in the same town and talk almost daily, so she'd notice if I was in the hospital for a few days. Just wondering if anyone else has tips on this.

    I got approved!

January 14, 2016 is the day my life will change and I cannot be more excited! Scared, nervous, thrilled, over the moon

    I got approved!

    Best of luck to all!

    I got approved!

Waiting is so hard, and I actually had a good chance of being denied (in my mind). I would read threads here and be happy for people posting that they were approved and silently worry about my approval. This board has been so helpful through this journey (and it is such a journey!) The process has taken me 18 months, and I know it's just the start. This new tool will finally help me achieve my goal of health!
  16. So I've been through nearly a year of prep work and appointments and now am just waiting for insurance to approve me, then I can schedule surgery and am so excited! Unfortunately, I feel very alone in this journey with no one to talk to. I'm the type of person who loves to talk through things but don't have close friends. My mother thinks it's a big mistake and that I should be able to lose the 100+ lbs "on my own" (as if I hadn't been trying and failing at that for the last ten years!) and my husband all but said he thinks I won't be successful after surgery. I haven't told other family or coworkers because my weight is such a sensitive issue to me, and I'm so embarrassed at how heavy I've gotten. I'm excited, scared, and nervous. Guess I just wanted to put this out there to see how to get through this with me basically bring my own 'cheering section' through this journey.

    Feeling alone through this journey

Thanks everyone! I feel better already. This board has already given me so much helpful information. And Gina1209, as soon as I figure out how to add you as a friend in here (still a rookie newbie!), it would be great to chat with someone who's going through the process about the same time!
  18. I am just starting the process of possible surgery and am very nervous that I won't get approved. I have recently diagnosed HBP, high cholesterol, and prediabetes. My BMI is 41. I know it all depends on insurance (I have BCBS MN). How hard was it to get approved and does a surgeon have the final say really?
