  6. Jennifer, Cynthia and Sarah : Wish you girls all the best!!!
  7. Feb. 11th, at the University of Mo. with DelaTorre.:biggrin: I will go feb 6th or 8th for pre-op and no diet til then if any.:biggrin: I love this site...everyone is great with support and info. I'm happy to be a VV.
  8. 4mykidzinVale, I also just found out that I'm going to be a grandma, no one bothered to ask me if I was ready either (LOL). :rolleyes2: Funny thing is my mother was the same age and I remember her being excited when I told her but I'm still in shock. I'll be 41 in July.
  9. I also highly recommend enell bra....the girls don't move!!! For me that was so important because I hated a lot of exercises because of the bounce. They can be a little pricey but well worth it. I have bought some capris at walmart and different places and they are ok, but I have trouble finding matching outfits to wear to the gym...like all those little girls wear. I do wear some regular elastic waisted shorts and wear compression shorts(from the mens dept. 'because they are longer) under them to keep my legs from rubbing. The walmart here has a very limited selection on plus sizes and even less of a selection of work out wear. Hope this helps.:wink2:
  10. all you fabulous fourties!! I hate to admit but I turned 40 last year. Like others, I also have mixed emotions over turning 40. Anyway, I'm not banded yet, but I'm hoping for early Feb.
  11. Sorry Bud...don't give up.
  12. Does anyone know if the smilies are going to come back?
  13. I'm a huge Survivor fan...Go Yau-man:clap2:. I boycotted survivor the season that Fairplay and Rupert were on...the season before that Jenna won and I couldn't believe it:mad::mad::girl_hug::mad::mad::mad:. So I missed the best season ever, from what I hear. I'd like to see James and Yau-man team up and go to the end.:whoo:

Hi LaLee, I'm just reading your post and I don't personally know anyone, I've heard Columbia is great. I was told that Dr Pitt was very good and only did lapband surgeries. However, Deletorre is one of the best and I plan to have him as a surgeon. Lisamarie, congrats on your surgery and weightloss.
  15. I think the centers of exellence has to do with mortality rate too. At my last group meeting, they told us that they had it now and that you can't get that if your patients are dying in or out of the hospital. I dont mean to sound morbid, but we went over all the complications and the reason people have them, etc...some jokingly referred to it as "the death talk". Somedays, just getting out of bed and going to work can be risky. LOL The cost that some of the people on the board were a lot lower than the UofMO. It would be interesting to know what they have to do to qualify as a centers of excellence. Might have to research that :noidea:.
  16. Bud, The U of Mo, Bariatric Services now has its Centers of Excellence accredidation(sp?). sfeiner is right, some insurances won't consider anything but Centers of Excellence.
  17. YW. I hope it works out for you and you find them as helpful as I do. Keep me updated. :ranger:
  18. Sorry Bud, I put Medicaid and not Medicare...but I still hope you check it out.
  19. Hi Bud, You might check with the Missouri Bariatric Services at the University of Mo. -- I'm currently going there and I' m pretty sure they take medicaid. They seminar is free and there are group meetings thru out the month (at different hospitals, etc)that you can go to and meet others, also free. I think the whole staff is great. I haven't talk to a surgeon for my situation yet, but there was one at the seminar and they also have Dr. de latorre(sp?) who is partnered with Dr Scott at DePaul and they are both very experienced. check out...Missouri Bariatric Services Anyway, welcome and good luck.
  20. QuasiTova, Thanks for the reply on the age. I haven't been banded yet but I'm also using lotion. I figured 40+ didn't have a chance but your coworker gives me hope. I've seen others here and rny that have toned it all up and had no excess skin, but most have been under 40. I'm with you...worth a try.
  21. how old was your coworker? doesn't age make a difference in the elasticity of skin?
  22. I agree, it depends on what you can get away with. My first visit the dr checked my ankles for swelling, but the further into the appts I felt more comfortable adding ankle weights because he didn't do it after that first appt. I just came right out and asked how many times I had to be documented as 40bmi, once??, he said yes so I slowly added. I hit 40 this month and will maintain next month just to show I didn't gain any and have that 40bmi documented twice. Flared jeans or boots can hide a lot, and I weighed my shoes to get the heaviest pair.:heh:
  23. oneangelinva, I've been doing this dance for 5 months to get past insurance. I have to have either 35+ bmi with at least 2 cormorbitites or 40+bmi with no cormorbities. At my first appt in August I was 37 bmi. There are those people that think its silly to gain to have surgery, and they may be right. But I feel like wls is still needed because I know where I'm headed with my health, all I have to do is look at my mother and grandmother. For me, I don't want to be them in 20 years. My dr told me not to lose any weight. Then, the problem of not having any major health problems was going to put a dead stop to wls and my insurance paying for it. I'm fat and have fat related issues, bad knees, back, depression, etc but no cormorbities that the insurance would consider...according to my dr, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes and one more( I'm drawing a blank to the 4th one) , are the top 4 that the insurance co. looks for. For me the only option was to have a 40bmi documented at least once during my 6month supervised visits. They really want you to lose weight those six months and start the lifestyle changes that you will have with the band but I quit smoking and my dr said that midwesterners(I'm in Missouri) generally gain an average of 7lbs over the winter, plus I had a change in medication....:heh:....so, I started reading others stories and researching and found that people cheat, they weight themselves down. I'm not a dishonest person and if I hadn't read others stories I never would have done it. At first I tried to eat my way to the 12lbs I needed to get a 40 bmi and was miserable, it was only fun for a little while. I pretty sure a lot of bandsters have been up and down all their lives and it totally sucks that the insurance co doesn't take that into consideration. I added ankle weights and depending on what you wear, you may be able to add weight in you pockets. My insurance may still deny me but I'm meeting there requirements for wls that I know I need. My mother and grandmother have diabetes, my gran was diagnosed with heart disease, my mom has had a hip replaced, etc....I simply can't do it on my own and I know it. I was a little scared to post this on the board because I don't want others to slam me with critisms, but I wanted to let you know you are not alone. You have to keep in mind how cool your dr is about it. I'm lucky enough mine knows its an insurance game and the weight issues have been for my lifetime up and down. For me I couldn't let 12lbs that I lost over the summer stop me. Good Luck:girl_hug:
  24. I've been doing a more research and found that it really is rare if laproscopic can't be done. Dr De LaTorre is one of the best and I probably shouldn't worry so much about it. I've always been a glass half empty kind of a gal. Not having much to do at work all day sure doesn't help :ranger:
