  1. My surgery is the 8th also! Luckily I only have a week on liquids. Not looking forward to it either!
  2. I have Factor V Leidens. I found out when I had a heart attack at 26. Very rare for heart attack. I am getting sleeved June 8th. I get my protime checked often and will be going on a Lovenox Bridge for surgery. I would see about getting into an appointment with a Hematologist. Either before or after. Be aware of any family history of blood clots. My surgeon asked if anyone in my family has had a problem with thrombosis, and I recalled that two siblings have had blood clots after commercial flights. It was enough for my doc to order an extra blood test to check for a common inherited trait called factor V leiden, and sure enough I've got it. It's pretty common among European Americans, 3-8% of the population carry it, but it means that they'll take extra steps to be sure I don't have a pulmonary embolism after surgery. Always better to know before than to deal with complications later.
  3. Hoehn is my surgeon too! I have had 3 doctors say they would let him operate on their families! PLus of course easy on the eyes!
  4. Easier one less Doc. I see a Hemo once a year. I am heterozygous so eh. I do fine on Lovenox but I am thinking that heparin may be something to throw at the docs. Its worth it to me too.
  5. Oh! I know this post is a few months old but are you guys still around? I also have Factor V Leidens. I was just told my cardiologist (who handles my protimes) would not do a 10 day lovenox bridge like my surgeon wants. I was hoping there was another option. Did your surgeons want a bridge that long or did they know more about Factor v then maybe my surgeon does?
  6. I just talked to my Protime Nurse about the 10 day Lovenox bridge my surgeon wants me to do for surgery. I am on Coumadin because of Factor V Leidens (I overclot) with history of a blood clot to my heart. She said my cardiologist will say no. He has cleared me for surgery but doesn't want me on Lovenox that long and off of Coumadin. I think I am going to have to arrange them doing a little confab.
