  1. Since I'm basically a newbie here I'm just trying to wrap my head around all the emotions, frustrations and happiness. I guess it would be nice to be able to talk to others that have been down this path. Voice concerns and questions... What to potentially expect. Etc...

    Feeling discouraged no support

I just wanted to "weigh in" on this. About 5 years ago I had lost 160 lbs on my own and it was difficult. Unfortunately I gained a good portion of it back. 111 lbs to be exact. I am now 5 weeks post op. During my initial weight loss the process was hard but whenever you wanted to take a break from dieting for a day or so, you could. You could have a beer or some pizza or a burger etc... Then get back on the diet afterwards. With gastric bypass it is not the easy way out. It can and probably will take a mental and emotional toll on you. It is difficult to stay focus on what to eat, not overeating. Not being able to just eat whatever you want. You need to have mental fortitude to get through it. Does it make it easier to lose weight, yes... But that does not mean it's easier on you mentally.. Do what's best for you and who cares what others think. By the way.. It seems to get easier mentally as you begin to lose the weight. Right now it seems worth the fight.
  3. I'm 4 weeks post op and I been having a discomfort smack in the middle (sternum area) not sure if it's gas or what exactly. When I rub it it seems to subside and feel better. I was just concerned with hernias that I've heard and read about. Appreciate any feed back.
  4. Thanks again, and yes I am a Steeler, Pirate and Pens fan. I have lived here all my life. I see your from Pittsburgh area too. I live about 25 min. north of Pittsburgh. I had actually been 410 lbs about 6 years ago or so and I lost 150 lbs in 8 months on my own. Eating high Protein and low carbs and working out and kept it off for a few years hovering between 260 and 290. If I went over 300 I would have to bust my butt to get it back off. a couple years ago I went up to 319 and then took it off when I got married and went back to 260 in July 2013.... but, I got married and got comfortable and began to eat and drink whatever I wanted and took things for granted and before I knew it. BAM up to 361 lbs. So, it was time to get help controlling this up and down nonsense. It's awesome that you are so willing to help others. Thanks again.
  5. Thanks for your comment. I am 5 weeks in and I began to do exactly what you mentioned. I am trying to be more aware of my drinking (instead of gulping) and I am chewing a little better and making sure it is very fine before I swallow. I have noticed that it has gotten much better. It is strange how your body makes you learn to change your old eating habits. Is there other things I should know along this path? lol 5 years out and it looks like you are doing well. Thanks again -Bobby
  6. Hi my name is Bobby, this is my first post and I guess it's because I'm a bit confused and need answers. I had gastric bypass surgery on Jan. 23, 2015 and my weight was 361. In the first 11 days I lost 27 lbs. After that I lost 10 more lbs. when I weighed in 11 days later. Since then (6 days) I've only managed to lose 1 lb. Totaling 38 lbs. I understand that is great to lose nearly 40 lbs. In a month but I guess I'm confused because so many people have spoke about losing a ton of weight in the first couple months and I'm eating very little. At the most a quarter cup of food 3 times a day and I'm so full. Is my body in starvation mode? I know 5 years ago I weighed 410 lbs. I dieted without surgery and was eating high protein low carb and walking daily. I lost 150 lbs in 8 months. (Only to gain 110 lbs back) but I seen 5 - 7 lbs a week weight loss. Is it because I was having more calories to burn? Or is the process sometimes slower? Do I need to workout more? Again I'm just confused and looking for answers please. Thanks Bobby

    Slower process than anticipated. Confused

Thank you as well. I'm staying focused and each day I'm starting to feel better.

Thanks for your comment. Helps quite a bit. Pretty cool to talk to someone that had the procedure completed on the same date. I been trying to get more water in and I'm starting to feel better. I'm starting off the scale for a week and will check later. Hope all is well with you.
  9. I am starting to think it is air cause I have a hard time with not gulping... Even my sips are a gulp lol. I am trying to be more conscience and seeing if it helps cause it sometimes lasts for many hours and just uncomfortable. Thanks for replying
