    Which surgery?

When I began the process of WLS, I too was thinking LapBand, and like you after doing lots of research on the Band and some of the complications I decided On the VSG. I was sleeved on 2/17 and have been doing great. Since my 2 week liquid pre-op which began on 2/3 I am down 40 lbs. One of the other factors for me was the need to follow up for fills to find the right restriction, with my crazy life between work and shuttling around 2 teenage children I was worried that keeping appointments would be difficult. I personally know people who have been successful with both surgeries. It is a personal choice. Although I am a newbie I am glad I chose the sleeve. Good Luck with your decision!

    Liquid diet

I did 14 days... Actually thought it was pretty easy after day 2. I was drinking Premier protein 4x a day, and was allowed sugar free jello, crystal light etc... I also was very rigid and didn't cheat and it was worth it, lost 24lbs in 14 days. In fact yesterday was one month since I started the pre-op liquids (sleeved 2/17) and I am down 36lbs total. You can do this....

    Share your Costco staples!

Just made a Costco run for some Premier Protein, but as everyone knows you can't just go to Costco and not fill the whole cart (at least i can't). I found a couple of things that are helping me through the mushy phase: 1.Basil Pesto Tilapia- 3.6 oz portions (perfect size) 120 calories Fat 5g Carbs 1g Protein 18g Cooks in 12 minutes 2.Turkey Meatballs- 3 meatballs (Foster Farms) 160 calories

    YAY!

    Congrats!!!!
  6. So today is one week post op, knock on wood things have gone remarkably well in my opinion, except for some earyl gas pain I feel great. No problem with liquids or Protein goals. So far have lost 33lbs (24lbs pre-op liquid and 9lbs this week) super psyched. Question? My surgeon goes straight to Puree phase, anyone else have this? It seems everyone else here has some sort of liquid phase. It scares me a little. Trying to be careful to not overdue it. Thanks All, Be well "Your BODY hears EVERTHING your MIND says. STAY POSITIVE"

    8 days post-op and MISERABLE

Twinhappy, I myself am 7 days post-op today... Have you tried different temperature liquids? I have found that room temperature liquids work best for me right now. I also had a hard time with the premier shakes I loved pre-op, so I have switched to Syntrax Nectar (Fuzzy Navel) i bought at Vitamin Shop, it is much easier to tolerate, its more like a juice... Could be the dairy your having a hard time with. I also have been doing 50/50 Apple juice and water which god down well (I know juice is empty calories) but you need to stay hydrated at this point. Hope you feel better...
  8. Unlike so many others on this sight, my surgeon and NUT go right to stage II pureed/mushy phase. I was a ,bit surprised as well, assumed i would have a liquid phase immediately after. I have reconfirmed this with the surgeons office, I have actually gotten a phone call from PA and surgical coordinator each day to check on me... which was nice. I think I'm gonna be a little safe though and stick with some clears...
  9. So I am 3 days post op, getting in my liquids and protein today, however the Premier Shakes I liked pre surgery hurt trying to get them down. Anyone have a suggestion for a protein I can mix with water? I tried room temp that didn't help. Also if I have trouble with dairy can and will it go away as i heal? i am or was a milk lover, yogurts etc...
  10. BryBro, You look awesome, you are an inspiration. I am 4 days post-op (feeling good) with very similar stats to yours when you started, I can only hope that I have the success that you have had... Can't wait till I can post pictures like yours. Congratulations!

    I go home today

I was sleeved on the 17th, came home on the 18th. As far as pain goes it does feel like you did way too many sit-ups .... But I did and continue to use pain meds, why suffer? I found and are still finding the gas pains to be the worst. Have a stash of Gas X on hand and walk walk walk . I do find it's helping. Wish it wasn't -10 outside... Laps around the house do get boring. And as everyone said, I feel better than yesterday, and I am sure tomorrow will be better than today! Good Luck, and a speedy recovery.

    Encouragement needed struggling

It is funny how different the post op diets are depending on your surgeon. I am 2 days post up and my practice goes right to the mushy phase. Lucky I can get an once in though, and couldn't tolerate the protein shake as well as water. And these gas pains are no joke.
  13. So 14 days of liquid pre-op done, now surgery tomorrow. I actually found the liquid diet pretty easy, which was a surprise to me. I am both anxious and nervous but ready to begin the next leg of this journey.

    My Story to help inspire!

Great story, Keep up the good work. Its posts like this that ease some of my fear and anxiety about being sleeved (2/17 is my date). My story is similiar too yours, it's been a long journey but I am ready. I too can't wait to shop for clothes at "normal" stores and get on an airplane and not worry if the belt will fit, or one of my most embarassing moments not be too big to ride an amusement park ride with my kids... Keep up the good work.

    New Sleever Intro

Gemini, Good Luck to you, I am scheduled for 2/17... and like you are nervous and excited. I am on day 3 of the pre op diet, so far so good. Don't know what protein you are using but I am using "Premier" pre made, they actually taste pretty good, you can get them at Costco or Sams Club. You may wanna give them a try.

    Newbie with Surgery Date 2/17

Thanks All for the words of encouragement.... Harley I have GHI/Emblem so I was required to do the 4 month dr supervised weightloss. It actually took me a lot longer then that to get all the required appointments in anyway. Hectic schedule with the kids, always running from one place to the other... I was actually thinking Band when I first began the process, but since decided the sleeve was a better option for me. Cruummbs, thanks for the info and best of luck to you.
  19. Hello All, My name is Mike and I am scheduled to have surgery on 2/17 at Mercy Hospital. My surgeon is Dr. Holover from NY Bariatric. I have struggled with my weight my entire adolescent and adult life and have reached the point where I most do something about it. I am hoping that surgery is the right choice. I am both excited and scared shit at the same time, but feel this is something I need to do for myself and my family. Besides being Obese I have several factors like high blood pressure, cholesterol, and sleep apnea. Not to mention parents with heart disease... I have two beautiful children and want to be around to see them grow up... I started this process quite some time ago but never followed thru, cold feet I guess. I do have some questions; 1. Has anyone had surgery by Dr. Holover and NY Bariatric? Any problems concerns etc... 2. Does anyone regret having surgery and Why? Thanks
