  1. Hi, I'd talk to your doctors and see if they have any concerns. I know for myself it often depended on what I was eating in regards to how much I could eat in the beginning. Some things made me full after a couple of bites, and some things (like potato chips unfortunately) I could eat by the bag! I think from most people I know, protein choices make you full faster and keep you feeling full way longer. Also, avoid drinking during or after eating (since it can wash the food out of your pouch leaving room for more food). Good luck!
  2. Thanks to all for the replies. I'll discuss all this with the surgeon on Friday. I also think I need more follow up than has been available to this point (it's pretty much NIL here in Winnipeg after the first year). I'll ask about a hematologist and see if that's an option.
  3. Hi Everyone. I'm 3 years post-op from a full gastric bypass. Over the last year I've seen a major shift in my health. I had an attack of vasculitis on my leg, random rashes, acne and other problems with skin breakouts (in my hair too!), anxiety/depression, fatigue, infections (bacterial and fungal) and now strange itchy rashes on my arms! I've been tested for all types of immune disorders and nothing. I'm thinking it's related to one or more mineral/vitamin deficiencies. Anyone experienced similar, and if so what was the end problem? Thanks!

    I don't understand!!!

Hi, I had the same issue as you. I came out of the hospital 5 lbs heavier than I went in! Then I didn't lose anything for 2 weeks and I was barely eating. However, I think while you are recovering your body simply shuts down a bit to conserve energy (read calories) that it needs to help heal you. Once I was fully recovered the weight started to come off pretty quickly (around 2 lbs a week) and consistently for about 6 months. You'll get there, so don't lose heart or hope. It's a journey and unlike with dieting it actually does work:). Good luck.
  5. Thanks I've seen that article too and it's great. I go on Friday to see my surgeons office. Unfortunately, here in Winnipeg there doesn't seem to be a team per se. I seem to be a bit on my own with this right now, and I'm finding it incredibly stressful.
