I had my first PCP Appointment this week..She told me that I need to write a letter to my insurance company explaining every detail of why I need this surgery. Then she said I give it to her for my dr office to help me get approval from insurance while they look for a bariatric surgeon for me since there isn't one in the network. Meanwhile She ordered for me to get my labs done so we are ahead of the game..I have Aetna and I'm located in California. Did anyone else have an experience like this?? Any advice is appreciated. All I know is I'm great at writing and this is going to be the best damn letter I've ever written. ????

They aren't really friends :/ it's one woman. Idk if she's mean or just really ignorant but one of these days I'm gonna snap at her

I'm so nervous and excited! I just set up my first doctors appointment to get my referral to a surgeon! I know this is a baby step at the beginning of a very long process..but it just became real. This is the first step towards no more co workers suggesting plus size stores to shop at, offering me low calorie snacks and asking if I want their fat jeans because they're "too big on them" I'm ready for this! Also very scared lol

Just starting my journey and I love hearing everyone say it's worth it and looking back there isn't one regret. I know that's gonna get me through this!

Hmm maybe..they only have 2 weigh ins from me too..I've only had this insurance for 2 years lol I'll fight for this though! I have sports induced asthma and 4 compressed discs in my lower back so hopefully they'll take that into consideration as well.

I'm also worried cus a lot of people are saying you need 2 years of previous weight history and I'm only 22 and have probably been to the doctor like twice in the last 2 years. I do plan on getting records from my weight loss doctor (tried and failed) that has weigh ins and one trip to urgent care like 2 1/2 years ago where I was having foot pain and the doctor noted the source as obesity..hoping this will do..

Ok! I didn't know if I start with my doctor or with my insurance. After reading a lot everything sounds so complicated! lol

Hello, I have Aetna gold hmo insurance and want to get the gastric bypass. My BMI is 43. I honestly have no idea where to start in this process..do I go to my Pcp? Call my insurance? Any help is much Appreciated!
