I had a ninja...love it, but for small amts post op and to grind small amts of meats I bought a small $40.00 Cuisinart . It only holds two cups so doesn't take up much space either.

Mine said " don't worry about carbs. Get the protein, limit fat and carbs will take care of themselves"

I'm 3 weeks out. Still sore, having a hard time getting the protein, water and vitamins all in every day due to nausea . I go back to work on Friday. I just can't imagine.

I get nauseous every time I take my vitamins....esp the chewable MVI. I hope to find something different, I can't face a lifetime of those things! Bariatric Advantage...berry flavor. ...horrible!! Any ideas ?

Overall it's been easier than I thought. My surgery was 12/15/15. But I'm still pretty tender and getting the protein and water requirements are very hard for me. I don't think I've ever gotten the water. My nutritionist said "just do the best you can, it will get easier". I hope so.

I agree, I have a back brace that really helps with the walking and coughing.

I did it. I had pretty much the same complaints as you..... Had surgery on 12/15. Had my 2 week post op visit today. Down 16 pounds. I am very happy I did it.is did all the research and am very happy with my surgeon and his entire office stagg. Amazing people. Now if I can take pureed foods for 3 more weeks ! Glad you're doing well!

True, and it depends on your job if it's steady lifting or not. But better to ere on the side of caution.

I'm allergic to morphine also. My doc put me on a Dilaudid pump as well as toradol. Very helpful. The Zofran does nothing for me as far as nausea control. But the gave me something else. I think it's always wise to talk about post op opinion control before the day if surgery and if you don't get the answer you need, might be a good idea to get another surgeon.

Lol...I burned my hair using color. It was breaking off at the scalp. I bought a couple of wigs buzzed it all off . It's all back now but I still wear the wigs. Mine are light as a feather and look better than my real hair any day. I don't wear them all the time but sometimes it's nice to just pop it on and go...my point is....don't worry if it falls out, it will come back and wigs aren't all that bad

No, it's a conglomeration of 4-5 different disease processes that if you have 3 (I think ) you get the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome

Oh, I do agree with your point Dar...it is cruel. People get better faster if the are medicated for pain so they can cough and deep breathe and walk. There are some older people that simply do not tolerate narcotics but you usually try another if one didnt. Then there are some older people that get really confused just by being in the hospital. So what?? Protect them during their confusion and medicate their pain. Their confusion will go away and while disturbing for family to see, is self limiting and harmless ( as long as they are protected from falling....or breaking their nurse's nose by wacking herewith the phone. But that's another story). I would rather have a patient with no memory of their post op experience than a poor tortured soul that gets no meds so he won't get confused.

Just remember. The nurse can only give a med ordered by the doc., I've been a nurse for 35 years. The trend is see is not a good one. Surgical pain is greatly undertreated. This comes from the doctors , trust me. Not the nurses, I have practically begged for pain meds for my patients Most docs will give you "one dose" unless you stay on them. It's crazy. I still have a fantasy that I will be the post op nurse for one particular doctor.

I can't stand the protein drinks anymore either. I had my surgery on the 15th and I go back the 7th. I'm like you, I can't imagine going back feeling like this. I only have nausea when I drink the protein drinks. So I have advanced my own diet a bit. Baby food meat with a bit of cream soup in the blender, eaten very slowly has worked well for me with the nausea issue. I can tolerate carnation instant breakfast. Not as muchard protein but better than not eating because of nausea I see my doc and nutritionist tomorrow, will probably get a lecture. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

There is such a variety of opinions on practically everything, depending on your surgeon. I have a friend that left the hospital on pureed foods, my surgeon "two weeks liquid before pureed". As with anything, I'd say try it and see, everything slowly and in moderation is what I'm trying for.

Update....it took me a year of researching, educating myself, jumping through insurance hoops, but I had my bypass on 12/15/15. I actually ended up getting a lot more support than I thought I would. So far, so good.

You are very lucky indeed. I could probably function...slowly, but my patients and I are probably all better off if I stay home and bit longer.

At least your posting makes sense. I got on Facebook talking to my daughter a few hours after surgery. I needed supervision. ....lol
