  2. @@BLERDgirl Certainly possible, time change completely screwed me up, not a lot of sleep. I went and did a bunch of reading about this dish and it is indeed made from raw hamburger though.
  3. Uncooked beef? Um, no. Rare(ish), okay, but it needs some heat, too many bacteria to just eat raw. Different cultures different meals.
  4. So, as most here who know me know is that I walk everywhere. In fact my morning PT includes a 6.7 mile walk at 19:00/minutes per mile. I wind up with 10-12 miles a day. So my best friend on Earth was a Marine, when I was in the Army, and we've had this friendly back and forth for the last 25 years or so, over who is tougher. I'm much bigger, and much more trained, but we have a great time trying to outdo each other, it's just good man stuff. So I challenged him. In the spring (it's too late in the year weather and logistic wise to pull it off) we are going to walk, From my front door, 20 miles to Manchester, get a room, spend the night, and walk back the next day. Yah, 40 miles in 2 days. I am going to work on my stamina over the winter, as I wanted to see how far I could get at full speed yesterday, so I did my usual walk, then kept going, I got to 11 miles and was spent. It's possible I may have been okay if I had eaten something, no idea. Any tips from marathon runners? Or Marathon walkers? The issue, and it's a real issue, is that once we leave, we MUST arrive in Manchester, the path is a combination of trails and road walking. Google says we can do it in 6 hours. I say 10 at the outside. The gear load-out will be pretty basic, camel hydration packs, food, perhaps MRE's if I can find some that don't suck and I can eat. A good first aid kit, map, compass (for the parts in the woods) I love technology but when it's my life on the line, I go old school)) That is about it, NUUN tablets in the camels. The issue is, and it is a big one, neither of us will quit. Ever. I'd fucking crawl on my hands and knees before I gave up. So would he, so I HAVE to have the stamina to make this trip. We cannot get 15 miles in an call a cab, for to do so would forever skew the balance of 'manliness' to one side, and we cannot have that. Additionally, anyone in the NH area that is interested drop me a PM, if you got the goods and think you can cut it, we'd love to have more aboard.
  5. Carrying a controlled substance in anything other than it's original container is a Federal Crime. Use the bottles that the pharmacy gave you. Remember, even though you know what meds you are carrying, if you get some asshat TSA agent they may detain you while they verify each pill is not a control. Not worth the risk.
  6. @@talkingmountain Welcome to the show! As for the noob, newbie, you would refer to yourself as a newbie, I would refer to you as a noob. Newbie is descriptive, noob is insulting/demeaning. Too many years of video games. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Just a couple things to remember, this is a journey, a lifelong commitment to change. Big time significant change. Your journey is yours alone, while we may be able to offer generic advice, what you go through will be very personal. I STRONGLY recommend that you read any of Alex Brecher's "Big Books" on the various weight loss surgeries. I found them entertaining and very informative. It's good to understand from a medical perspective what is going to happen inside you. Afterwards, you are a better educated consumer and customer, and this is a plus for everyone. Stay positive. That might sound odd, but many of us go through very unpleasant things and it's easy to get down on yourself. Stalls WILL HAPPEN, prepare yourself, continue to work your program, do what you are supposed to do and they pass. These forums even get graphic with people talking about bowel movements, too much, too little, or shocked at what came out, me personally, I could poop out a kitten and it would not surprise me. The kitten, would likely require a lifetime of therapy though, lol. Welcome aboard, you have taken another step towards your new life.
  7. @@Dub I did the math on a single shake a day, (I double the recipe, so a single shake with skim milk provides 50g of protein), using unjury, with shipping, excluding the cost of the milk the powder alone works out to $2.90 a day. This is partially offset by the fact that I eat less food, and even when all the restrictions are off, I see me eating a lot of meat. In fact if I can work it out I'd like to get back to low carbing it, that year was the best I have felt in my adult life, say what you want, but I was as healthy as a horse, worked out in the gym 2 hours a day 6 days a week and was never tired.
  8. @@heather5565 My ass has produced things I did not even know it was capable of producing. First rule, and I and stealing this "NEVER trust a fart". If I went into the bathroom and passed a kitten out of my ass it would not shock me, this whole experience has been shocking.
  9. I cleared the house and nearly had a hazmat team here two days after surgery and continuing for a week. In fact my friend who was staying with me, went home after two days, he said he could not take the ass smell any longer.
  10. You are all lucky, well, in a regard. Gas pains do indeed pass. Walk, walk, walk. What I meant by lucky was I developed what I refer to as Volcano Ass, I think you get the picture. Oh the gas came out, but it was hell around here for a few days. I saw in someones signature, "Never trust a fart" SOOOO true!! This too shall pass, just keep chanting, lol.
  11. @@irishaggie I recall hearing someone in the lifestyles modification classes I had to attend say something that struck a chord with me. She said she felt like she was "saying goodbye to and old friend" every time she checked off the final eating of a food. It struck me for two reasons, first, I eat because I have too, I am by no means an emotional eater, I just don't have that kind of relationship with food. And secondly because I think she needs or needed this was awhile ago, a different therapy, as I cannot even imagine, thinking of food in those terms. I see food as an object not something I have a relationship with.
  12. @@irishaggie I'll have to look that up. It's hard having GB and being Italian, we have a special bond with food, lol. I can live w/o Pasta, but sauce, it just goes so well in so many things.
  13. @@goblue9280 I had nearly the same thing, I used RAO's Pasta sauce, no sugar, basically all veggies, low cal, low or no sugar, but aside from that it was the same thing, and I loved it.
  14. @craigcu You sure can at any CVS, the problem is that they are expensive and the quality varies wildly from one brand to the next. I mean it varies at an astounding rate, both the Probiotics Lipsticklady and I listed are very high quality, just do some research before hand and you should be okay.
  15. I bought http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F4WWI4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_6&smid=A2AFA41BFBRZV7 After comparing independent labs, these ranked third in three separate tests. They are cheap and i'll go with it.
  16. @@beachgal2935 OMG thank you so much. I bookmarked this page, lol. Some of those dishes sound wonderful. Refried Beans and cheese is getting a bit old.
  17. @@beachgal2935 Well I don't move to diet stage three for one more week, and honestly, I don't know. I am sort of still milking stage 2, I eat at least one meal a day, but there are days when I am like, ah the hell with it, I'll just have another shake. As for the soft foods stage, I have to do a lot of reading and gather some recipes to sort of figure that part out. At this point, other than turkey chili I have no solid plans on any food. Suggestions?
  18. *** A word of caution, this is not a thread that is meant to make anyone miss a food. I simply thought it would be nice to look back at where we were, and sort of compare our mindset then to now. This is really a deeper thread than the title would indicate. Do I miss Chinese food, I sure do, but, and this is the critical bit, I have not told myself I can never eat it again. To do so I would start to obsess over the food. I tell myself, someday. Same with candy bar, perhaps some day I will be able to tolerate a bit of a candy bar. Not that I want too, but I like all my options open.
  19. I will caution you that comparing yourself to others is dangerous. Mostly because we don't have the whole story. Maybe her portion of the chicken pot pie is the insides with mostly chicken, maybe not. If what she is doing is working for her, great. All you can do is focus on yourself. Are you following your surgeon's program? Are you getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Are you taking your recommended Vitamins and supplements? Are you exercising? @@Inner Surfer Girl I don't think the OP has had any surgery, I think she was just asking a question about her friend. That is how my reply was written, it may have sounded a bit harsh but to someone who knows nothing of the surgical approach, I was trying to get as much information across in as short a post as possible.
  20. @@JamieLogical You are so correct, I too am finding it funnier and funnier how different people are told such radically different things from people who profess to be all about bariatric nutrition. @@VSGAnn2014 I had a little lol, yeah we'll talk about it. You talk, i'll shake my head, but the probiotics will be here today and I'll start taking them then. Then next Wednesday, she can say whatever she wants, I'll just yes her to death. She may even be like, okay go ahead, whatever.
  21. This is a direct quote from my surgeon and how he opens the informational seminars. "There is only one, lifelong, successful tool for treating morbid obesity, bariatric surgery" He goes on, and feel free to read the latest in JAMA these numbers are real, Weight Watchers, system wide, has a 8% success rate. That is not winning. You may do well for a month, or a year, but it's just another yo-yo diet. Even a Bypass is not a cure, it is a tool. My best friend went through this 10 or so years ago, and has yet to create a drop of sweat due to exercise. So he went from 700 lbs to his current and sustained for the last eight years 400 lbs. He eats whatever he wants, when he wants. He does not dump. His ass, gives him a hard time occasionally, but that is most likely diet. He is dying. He is chronically anemic, in fact it is so bad, the ONLY way he can get Iron is to go sit for a one hour slow infusion of iron at the hospital 3 days a week every 3 weeks. He's on 250,000 IU of Vitamin D and still low. As are a number of other Vitamins and minerals. Does he take a multi? Nope. He's just waiting to die at this point. So, your friend had a bypass and is not going to make the deep changes needed for success. There are a lot of people who lose weight and gain it all back, only now they get to take supplements for life. You can fail at this too if you are unwilling to put the work in. Portion control works well in the early stages but the pouch stretches over time. You have to limit yourself to what you are supposed to eat. The future for your friend does not bode well. She should see a therapist and fast, to get over her food issues, she still has it in her to be a success, but with her current attitude, sadly, and not to be a negative nelly, but she does not sound like she will be.
  22. I did some research on which brands are the best (found a couple of independent labs that do that sort of stuff) settled on the #3 rated one across multiple tests, ordered from Amazon, talked to NUT and she was like, WHOA there, bring it with you next Wednesday for your one month and we'll discuss it. She said I usually don't allow supplements until the 2 month checkup. I retorted, um, not to be disrespectful but you do realize what is in all this yogurt I eat.... daily.... Probiotics. She said we'll talk about it. So one more week of unpredictable ass, at least. It's actually been pretty good for the last couple days. No Volcano Ass to speak of, had a few emergency runs, but it was gas, and had it not my hallway outside the bathroom would look and smell quite different now.
  23. If you opt to go to the November 10th meeting, bring a voice recorder, place it on the table, and explain you are recording this appointment at the request of counsel. That will put the fear of god in the surgeon. Force him to explain, in graphic detail what "difficulty making my pouch" means. If he tries to shrug it off, or talk over you, or around you, note the voice recorder and that what he says is admissible in court. Two reasons for the voice recorder, first, duh, lawsuit. Second and probably at this time more important, for you to bring to the next surgeon and say, "here is what the last tool said" it may lead to them understanding whatever may have happened without having to do exploratory surgery. Oh and those papers you signed very near the time of surgery, you know the ones that supposedly indemnify the surgeon "This surgical procedure is not designed to treat any specific condition" blah blah. That is how the surgeon will try to hide when the malpractice suit begins. He'll say he promised you nothing. The judge will toss that, as the surgeon did indeed provide a service that he was well compensated for, you, as a customer has a reasonable expectation that said surgery will provide the benefits clearly explained to my by the surgeon. Remember the only way in America that you can sign your rights away is to join the Military. As I see it, if you do decide to go down the legal road, here is what you would need to do. First give your current surgeon a chance to fix his mistake, again voice recorder is critical, if he refuses to speak with a recorder on, ask him why? It is your right to record the conversation. If his lips even move, note to him, that HIS office records EVERYTHING that happens when you are there, why is there no reciprocity? Second, if he does go on record, and says, everything is fine, get the explanation on tape about what was so hard about making your pouch. Request a copy of your records before you leave the office. Seek new surgeon. Play the voice recording, and show him the OR records. And get fixed. This is known as "The Win". You are not going to get millions of dollars, but a couple hundred grand for pain and suffering as well as punitive damages is reasonable. More if the surgery to repair the prior surgeon's work is especially difficult, and showing errors. Start the process of seeking the best medical malpractice lawyer in your state. Yes, state. Never limit yourself to local. In fact that can be bad, as the closer in proximity to one another the Doctor and Lawyer are the better the chance they have crossed paths before. Anyways, /rant off
