  1. Also.. I forgot to copy the thread, but someone else who has BCBS of TN said the same thing, that the insur. company rewrote the WLS guidelines in April. I'll have to look for it. I really hope it doesn't have any effect on me or anyone else, who is close the 40 BMI with not so serious comorbid diseases.. Here is the thread, Go down a few until you see Mona's post. http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?p=245960#post245960
  2. Your sister in law is lucky she isn't my sister in law, I am far from a violent person, but if she said this to me... I would of reached out and smacked her. THIS IS THE REASON WHY I CHOSE NOT TELL ANYONE BUT MY HUSBAND. My in laws make weight related comments frequently.. UNTIL I told them to mind there business, I'm trying my best to do what I can. And until my Mother In Law is the correct weight for her height and maintains it.. keep her mouth zipped for now. Like I love being over weight/obese. I also have many medical issues. I have had several back surgeries and I have a intrathecal pump implanted.. blah blah blah. It's up to me to do what I have to do to try to get this weight off. Like everyone else, I've tried it all. TIRED OLD MAN, I agree 100% with your last post. Nice job
  3. I will be taking photos the morning I leave for surgery and then again when I get home. I hope to start my journal then. I want to offer anything I can for those who'll be getting surgery, just as the others have done for me.
  4. Thanks for the info. Stephanie, I hope you continue to get better every day. You make me feel alot better about my up coming surgery.
  5. GMTA I was thinking the same thing, I actually was signing on to ask the same thing! I hope she's doing well. Let us know when you get back!
  6. HAHHHAHHAHAA TOO FUNNY! ROFPMFP HAHHAHAA:rofl: Best of luck to both of you!! It must be nice to have a buddy with you.
  7. Funny that you say that!! I was just talking to my Dr. about how my 12 yr. old now eats Protein first, then veggies and then fruit. She kills me. I'm not banded yet, but i started changing my ways of eating so that it won't be so hard when I "HAVE" to change. I also started eating on a dessert plate to help me with my portion control. My daughter did do this and I told her she didn't need to do this, but in reality the Pediatrician said it's not a bad idea. It will teach her what a real serving size looks like. It's amazing how your children really do follow the same patterns as you do.
  8. Hi Everyone, I'll be banded on the 27th of July!! Nice to meet everyone & Good luck! It's so great to have such a great support group. We'll all be going through the stages together... For me, I'll be learning a lot from all of you whom will be banded before me. I'm 36, married to a wonderful man and we have 2 girls 12 and 2. We live in NH.
  9. LIZ, You are not going through this alone, you have a lot of support here at LBT :biggrin1: . I know you will have to go it alone at home but you can always, at any time, hop online and get support here. There are many people who have "buddies" and they chat on the phone a lot too. I, too, am not telling anyone but my husband and I will be in and out of these boards many times a day.. roll out the door mat . Yes, I do have my husband and I'm very grateful for that, but he has no clue to what I'll be going through and I'm going to need you guys for all the support I can get. So anyway.. :welcome: you'll love this place, it has so much info. that you can read for days!! Take it all in, it's amazing what you can learn. I thought I knew a lot before I signed on here and after reading many threads... I found out that I was not as prepared for the band as I first thought. Best of luck to you, we'll be thinking of you.
  10. Also, I think Tired old man has made a few good points. Slow down a bit and see what happens. I've heard of some people waiting 2 months for approval. At least if your paperwork is found, the hard part is over with. You will get your answer pretty much right there. Once again, best of luck to you.
  11. Yikes, 11 grand is a lot of money. 6 months really isn't that long to wait and in my opininon... if you failed losing weight, you pretty much show the insurance company that you can't stick to a diet. I'm not telling you to sabotage yourself, because I tried so hard to lose weight an I did lose a little. I think that the ins. comp. wants to see you make an honest effort, under a Dr.'s care, to try to lose weight at any rate, slow or fast and see how long you mantain it.. if at all. At the same point, I was not required to have a six month diet and I was quite surprised by this. BUT in my defense, I had documentation of medications and WW's, online programs and so on and I did submit it to the ins. comp. If i'm getting this right.. you said that your paper work may have been missing. Is this the paper work you submitted? If so didn't you keep a copy? The Dr. usually never sends the orig. paper work to the insur. company. Anyway.. Just like everyone else who is wanting or waiting for the band.. you wanted it done yesterday.. I understand completely. But take a step back and see what you can do before you just rush out and pay 11 grand. I'm not trying to be rude or mean. I'm just trying to be the devils advocate for a few minutes. I wish you all the luck in the world, please let us know how this all works out for you. I know your frustratations... If I get denied, I'll be right beside you. BUT i will not give up! I'll do what it takes to get this band because I want and need to be healthy. DON'T GIVE UP... TRY,TRY AND TRY AGAIN! It might take you longer, but it may save you 11,000! Take care...
  12. YEAHHHHHHH!! Good for you. How awesome is that, in one weeks time. I think I'll call my insurance now.. Best of luck to you
  13. Debbie, after reading your last post I can't see how the insurance won't cover you. I'm happy you have a Dr. backing you up, isn't it always nice to have someone on your side? I wish you luck and hope you get a surgery date soon!!! Take Care
  14. Wow, I'm glad this isn't just me. I sent my 12 yo to the town recreation center. It's 75.00 for 6 weeks and it's from 9-3:30, she comes home for lunch at 12 and returns at 1. (she rides her bike down the road to camp). My 2 yr old keeps me on my feet. But now I don't have to try to find something that entertains a 2 and 12 yr old. I can take my 2 yr old on the swing or for a walk, color.. You name it. For fun, we go to the movies, library, the drive in at night, bowling or glow bowling, swimming and our new thing is scrapbooking. I have a huge house with a rec. room for my 12 yr old to have a few friends over. You know it's amazing how you all say when we were younger we were never bored, I agree. We didn't have video games or computers, cell phones... we played kick the can, hide and go seek, capture the flag, freeze, mother may I .... you name it.. My parents had to drag us in kicking and screaming because we wanted to stay out longer. My daughter laughs at me when i say these things to her. That is why a lot of teens in the USA are FAT!!!! They sit in the house and do nothing but play video games, watch tv and so on... Just my opinion.
  15. Good luck Yoda, I hope they hit the "sweet spot" for you! Hopefully this will be it.
  16. Best of luck to you!! I hope you have an easy breezy surgery and a speedy recovery. Please let us know how you did and how you're doing.
  17. Thanks for the info. and even more so for the encouragement. I know you all can do it too!! Hang in there, it's almost over for you. Best of luck! I'll also keep an eye on this thread and take my notes. :typing:
  18. I'm 5'6 and I'd like to be between 140-150.. but I'd be very happy at 170 - 180 BTW I can't believe how tall everyone is!!! I feel like a midget
  19. I'm not banded yet, so I'm sure my diet applies. :hungry: But.. I will be banded at the end of July. How do you do with the pureed food? I'm sure it taste just like the un pureed chicken but I have a gag reflux and I just can't imagine how I'm going to do this mushy stuff. Thanks in advance!
  20. 3 loves, Yeah I feel cheated by my Dr. BUT this is a good thing, I need to start somewhere. There's no time like now. I'm doing my best to stay strong. I've lost 6 pounds since my last visit, so if I really feel the need to go on a last night binge, I'll be okay to cheat a little. :heh: Josie, your post is EXACTLY why noone knows about me being banded, besides my husband. I have no patience with people who think they know everything or people who lurk over others that are trying to lose weight.. while they tell them everything they should and shouldn't eat. To hell with that, I wouldn't be FAT if I had made the right choices from the beginning. Now I'll have a tool to remind me to eat the right choices EVERY time I put something in my mouth. Big Girl, be glad you dont' have my Dr. He denied another girl in our group this morning ( I just found out). I'm going to ask him what the big deal is. I'm assuming that it has something to do with the liver needing to shrink. That's just a guess?
  21. Tricia, Your home is absolutely beautiful! It's very unique and it has a great color scheme and design. I love houses from the South. (I'm from New England) l wish you and your family many years of love, joy and happiness in your new home. I don't know how big your last house was, but cleaning a home that is almost 4,000 sqft. SUCKS!! I have 4500 Sqft. and I keep begging for a maid to come in. LOL A quick hint.. what works for me is I start at one end of the house and I move along to the other side. What doesn't get done the first day, gets done the next.
  22. Wantlapband, I'd call the insurance company and ask all your questions. I went to Lahey Clinic in Burlington and my PA told me I was lucky because things have changed at BCBS of MA. My BMI is 39.8, I've had several back surgeries,HBP, joint problems in the knees and I have a intrathecal pump implanted. Anyway, I guess all the same rules apply, but the severity of the co-morbid dieseases have to be more severe, life threatening IF your BMI is under 40. Honestly, you have a lot going on.. but your BMI is at the cut off for coverage. I'm no Dr. nor am I an insurance rep. I'm just telling you what I have experienced. Doesn't mean that I am right and it doesn't mean my info. is any better than yours. I wish you the best of luck and please come back to let us know how it all works out. I think your good to go! I'll let you all know if and/or when I get approved.
  23. For me, I just called my insurance company to see if they covered the surgery and if they did, what requirements did they have in order for me to qualify. Then I researched clinics in my area, picked one and got a date for a consult.
  24. Wow!!! You are all talking about the "LAST SUPPER" and making me very jealous. My Dr. is very strict. I can not gain any weight up to my surgery date or it is a deal breaker. I'd call his bluff, but 2 people in my support group got the axe on the day of surgery because of weight gain. Someone please, eat a BIG MAC for me... LOL KIMBER I'll be praying for good news to come your way, from the insurance comp.
