  1. Hello. I had my surgery Oct 4th. 2 weeks out and still on very mostly liquids. My concern is I don't feel any restriction what so ever. I am sipping my Water and eating Jello and cream of wheat and chicken broth, etc. but everything goes down too easy. I have read where others have a hard time just getting water down. I'm so afraid this won't work for me. I had a lap band and lost over 100 lbs. to below my goal. Has anyone had a similar experience. hopefully the restriction will kick in later. thanks
  2. I had my lap band placed in 2006. I lost over 100 lbs. Loved it. I had to have it removed in Oct. 2014 due to a slip. I have been fighting my insurance company since. Many appeals and denials. As my last resort I hired Lindstrom Weight Loss Advocacy. They did some research and I was floored to find out some things the insurance company did. My review and denial was done by a "pediatrician" among other things. They just do not want to pay for it. If I had saved all my insurance premiums I would be able to pay cash for my sleeve. I am waiting now for what will be my final answer. Should know by mid April. I think the appeals come through and just automaticly are denied. I have gained back about 70 of the 100 that I lost. Fingers crossed. Good luck everyone.
  3. It looks like I am going to have to self pay for my gastric sleeve. I live in the San Diego area and have been quoted a price of $22,000 from my doctor. I don't mind traveling a little bit. Possibly Arizona. Anyway was hoping I could get some ideas of prices from other areas for good reputable doctors. Really appreciate any help and advice you can give. Thank you

    Hiring an attorney

my UHC SignatureValue HMO has denied me and my appeal in noW in the hands of Health Care Help Center. If I am denied again I am thinking of getting an attorney that specializes in this Type of claim. It's cheaper than surgery. Has anyone tried this route? Would love to get Some advice
  5. I will try to make this short. I live in San Deigo, CA. Lap Band in 2006. Lost over 100 lbs. Lap Band removal due to slippage in Oct. 2014. Gaining weight like wildfire. Insurance denied the sleeve. Appealed with a 3rd party, Dept. of Managed Health Care who upheld insurance decision. Now I am thinking of looking into a lawyer as a last ditch effort. I am hoping someone in the San Diego area can give me some direction. Not real sure where to turn. I will have the surgery even if I have to self pay, which with my Doc. is 21,100. which will clean out my savings and put me in debt. I would really appreciate any help I can get.
  6. I got my lap band in 2006 and loved it. I lost over 100lbs and felf great. However I had to have it removed last November 2014 due to slippage. Trying to get approved for a sleeve. I talked to two different Doctors, both recomended to have the surgerys done seperatly, giving time for the scar tissue, etc. to heal. I am now fighting with my insurance company. My wonderful Doctor even called and had a Peer to Peer in my defence trying to get insurance approval. I have written 2 appeal letters and have been denied 3 times. It is now in the hands of a third party. I was wondering if there are others out there with similar storys. I am going throught with the surgery regardless, even if I have to self pay but its going to wipe out all my savings. FYI I have gained 50+ lbs.
  7. I am scheduled for sleeve surgery on May 26th. Still fighting with insurance but as of right now I am a self pay. As a self pay I can only afford one night in the hospital. Under norman circumstances will this be enough time? I am scheduled for 1st patient in the morning so I can have as much recovery time as possible. Also does anyone know...If I self pay and then win my insurance battle, will they just reimburse me? Thanks

    Insurance question

I have appealed my insurance 3 times and have been denied all 3. My Doc. has done a peer to peer and now it is in the hands of a 3rd party. My question is...If I go ahead with the surgery and self pay and in the end insurance ends up coming through for me. Do I just get reimbursed? Not sure how that works.

    Appeal Question

I appealed and heard back right away. DENIED. So maybe the longer wait is a good thing
  10. I got my lapband in 2006 and loved it.I lost over 100 lbs and felf great. However it needed to be removed due to slippage. Medical necessity, not by choice. It was removed last November 2014. I got two Doctors opinions, both prefer to do the two surgerys seperately to give everything enought time to heal. I am now fighting with insurance company. My wonderful Doctor did have a peer to peer with my insurance company to explain why he felt I needed the revision to the sleeve. I have written 2 appeal letters and have been denied 3 time. It is now in the hands of a third party. I was wondering if there are others out there with similar storys. I am going to have the surgery regardless even if I have to self pay, which would wipe out all my savings. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    Lap band removal

Hello. Yesterday I had my lap band removed. I had it placed 8 years ago and was very successful. Lost a bit over 100 lbs. However it slipped and had to have it removed. I know day 2 is usually the hardest but am very sore and have a lot of shoulder pain. If you have gone through this and can let me know how it went for you I would really appreciate it. Is the shoulder pain normal? Thanks in advance for your replies.

insurance pay from lap band to sleeve

I will be going through this very soon. Ins has approved the removel of my band but Dr. doesn't like doing the revision at the same time so we will have to wait to see if Ins will approve a sleeve a few months down the road. The band worked for me so my BMI will not be high enough. I am removing it due to a slip. I have UHC SignatureValue HMO,. I am seeing the Dr. this week to see if we can do both at the same time. Maybe ins will be more likely to cover. Would love any advise or input. Thanks
