At my two week post-op, my NUT said I could start eating more normal food as long as I chewed it very well before swallowing, Protein before carbs. My doc said after three weeks, you're pretty much out of the woods for a leak.
Every doctor and nut gives different instructions and info to their patients. Check with your doctor and nut about what to do - they're the only ones whose opinions matter.

I am of German descent, and in my opinion, we here in America are doing a huge disservice to our children by "protecting" them from alcohol. I was given small amounts of beer in my bottle as a baby. And as I grew I was never refused alcoholic beverages, they were limited, just as any responsible parent would with sodas.
Now the argument can be made on both sides about health advantages/disadvantages. But where I saw the biggest difference was in my late teens & early twenties when all my friends were out getting sloshed, alcohol really wasn't that big of a deal to me, because I had access to it and was taught moderation with it my entire life.

Have been wondering this myself so thanks everyone for all the answers!
I actually just thought of this -- I studied abroad in France for four months and while there, I saw parents (several times) pouring a bit of wine into the Water they gave to their children - a common practice in France. And wine has been said by many people to actually be good for your heart... so I'm wondering if maybe that's not a bad idea. Maybe not day one, or even week one, but adding a tiny bit of whatever type of wine you want to water to ease back into that lifestyle for those who need it.
I'm going to try to stay away from fruity/sugary stuff myself, but I'll also be honest - I'm 24, and I'm in college still. It's just a social thing (plus I likes my wineee) but I'm going to be much smarter about it now *hugs stomach*

@@jadama22 Post op day one and two: I was in so much pain and uncomfortable that I inhaled two "puffs" from my vaporizer of some good kush and it helped immediately with the pain. However, because you will just have had anesthesia and your lungs will be weak, I would advise to use discriminately.
It did not make me hungry.

I don't use marijuana, but I am led to believe by some friends who do that there are varieties or methods of consuming that do not cause munchies, perhaps even the opposite. You might check with a local dispensary or on-line forum dedicated to the subject for expert advise. Good luck!

@@charmia, that's my take on it, too. I think that since smoking marijuana lowers inhibitions, you could end up making bad food choices and/or overeating. I'm not a smoker but if I was, I would avoid it post surgery.
Just my $.02: Lets be careful how we use the term addiction. If it's applied indiscriminately to every behavior we don't approve of, it loses its meaning.

Sorry, I haven't smoked weed since WLS.
Marijuana makes me ravenously hungry. I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon. (I'm 7 months post-op.)
However, I do drink wine now. Happily, it doesn't give me the munchies.
Best to you. Hope you do get some responses from folks who have tried it post-op and learn how it affected them.

Please be kind to each other on this site - aren't all of us trying to stay positive about perhaps the hardest things we have ever done? I know I am. I come to this site for inspiration and answers - not to read others being negative about others' choices. Be respectful please. You don't have to agree with what others do, but no need to hate. This is hard enough.

Thank you for that very well articulated response regarding the correlation of smoking Marijuana and it's effects on post Bariatric surgery patients. I also appreciated your well thought out response and obvious expertise about the dangers of addiction and addiction transfer post WLS. Your critical thinking skills must be the envy of all your peers.
I'll bet you're fun at parties.
