Hi All, I just had my surgery on Thursday 2/26. I was just released from the hospital. The biggest problem for me was awful nausea right after surgery on Thursday and thru Friday morning but, thankfully, that got better. I had the swallowing study in the hospital and was able to drink liquids after that. In the hospital I had Water, a Protein shake and some pureed vegetable Soup. Good luck to everyone getting their procedures soon.

From what my insurance coordinator told me, Oxford/UHC are not big sticklers to weight loss. They just want to see the 6 months of nut visits. Try not to gain obviously but it's not a big deal if you do. I had periods of weight gain also but I got approved

To people who are post surgery for a while now, do you still enjoy restaurants and eating socially? Can you eat in restaurants? Do you enjoy vacations and eating on vacation?

@, I also have Oxford United. I am getting sleeved with a different doc on Feb. 26 but the ones you mentioned are the requirement for Oxford. You don't need anything else

Thanks everyone! I spoke to my surgeon today and he said I probably will not need one. ))

Strange question, I know, but did they insert a catheter during surgery? I had them when they did my c-sections and I hated them.

@@ka3yaa, I am scheduled with Dr. Pomp for Feb 26 gastric sleeve surgery. Getting more and more nervous as the procedure approaches. I may need to have my gallbladder removed at the same time

Hi @Debranua. Yes, my ins coordinator told me the same thing, that weight loss is not required. I completed all me nut visits but still don't know if I am approved (haven't been able to reach them). I will let you know as soon as I hear anything

I see. Congrats on being on the other side and to speedy recovery. I am scheduled with Dr. Pomp at Cornell for Feb. 26. Definitely so nervous but also excited. Just want to be done with it.

Hi All, I see many of you posting that you will be getting your VSG surgery done in Mexico due to not being approved by insurance. Can anyone of these people please share why you were denied by your insurance. I have Oxford/United and have completed all their requirements including the 6 months of nut visits. The office manager gave a surgery date already once my nut cleared me, which if Feb. 26! She also scheduled me for pre-op testing at the hospital. I'm still a bit nervous that the ins will not approve me and I'm already getting excited about the surgery. Any thoughts on this issue?

Looks like February date for me as well, although it has not been scheduled yet. I'm excited but also really nervous about the surgery. I've also gained weight since my initial appt.

Ok, so you guys are saying that if my labs, or ultrasound, or whatever other tests show a gallbladder abnormality BEFORE surgery then I should have the GB out at the time as the sleeve and if the test do not show abnormalities then continue as is and only do the sleeve?

Hi All, I am pre-surgery and, if all goes according to plan, should be getting "sleeved" around late January/early Feb. I'm getting a little paranoid over gallbladder complication. I hear that happens with VSG and some people even get their gallbladder removed at the time of their surgery. Has anyone faced this complication or can shed some light on this. Thank you!

Hi Everyone, I am new to this sight. I am currently considering the sleeve surgery and am in my 6 month pre-op period and looks like will probably be scheduled for some time in January. I go through cycles of excitement, fear and doubt about the surgery. For some reason I'm very scared of the surgery itself and the anesthesia involved. Just wanted to find out, how did you feel right after the surgery? Were you in a lot of pain? I understand there is a Clear liquids only phase, how was that? Were you hungry after the surgery? Also did you have to loose weight prior to surgery? Or does that not matter much? Please help me understand the whole experience. Thank you in advance!
