    August 26 Sleevers

It has been wonderful. I'm down 73 pounds, in a size 8, some 6s, and I feel great. First few weeks were rough for me because I had a hernia surgery too, and I was dehydrated, constantly, but I got thru. I feel absolutely on top of the world now! Good luck and feel free to ask me anything :-)

    August 26 Sleevers

My doc won't let me eat nuts or nut butters because he said it's too much fat and calories. He is actually not a fan of nuts at all. That may be one thing. I'm sure you're getting done form of exercise right? I was sleeved the same day as you. I do a protein drink for breakfast, a turkey cheese roll or chicken salad for lunch and last night I had 1/3 of a black bean burger with cheese. I just stated eating in Monday though so I'm still not liking it all that much. This sounds like what is called a stall and your body is trying to adjust. Don't get hung up on that. My NUT also said that even though eggs are approved, they are heavy in your pouch. Also have you cleared or your intestines? You could be holding some volume there. I'm sure this will pass ands the next weighin will be like 3 pounds gone overnight. Don't fret, just keep eating right. Good luck
  9. Your reasons are some of the same reasons I chose the sleeve. I didn't want to have top deal with rerouting issues or malabsorbtion or dumping issues. I wanted to have the option to eat whatever I wanted even though I won't do that all the time. And I thought a 4-6oz stomach was alright. To me, there are too meant possible complications associated with the bypass. Most people at my doctor's office have the sleeve. It is less invasive. That's also a big plus for me. And I'm 3 wks out and have lay over 30 pounds already so the weight loss is fine to me. I didn't weigh as much going in as some others and their weight loss has been significant too, with the sleeve. 50 and 70 pounds. So go with your gut. The sleeve to me is much better overall than the bypass, complication-wise

    August Sleevers Check In

Karen, my doctor told me milk of magnesia. And I had to take some this morning and I have to say it worked quickly and effectively. So I did one teaspoon as opposed to two to start with first and but you can take two if one is not working. give it a couple hours after you take the first spoon. And milk of magnesia was baratric surgeon approved

  12. Trust me, the fear is normal. The good news is that in the beginning, it will be more difficult to fail. Take me, I am 3 wks out. Today I am finishing allowed to eat. I tried and so far, I feel is overrated. While I know I will feel better about eating, eventually, I know that today I won't fail because eating made me feel blah. The sleeve will help you. Now, it's all mental. After surgery, you have to work at eating. That should make eating the right thing alittle easier. I hope that helps.
  13. Auntjanny. I had blue care network which is basically bcbs. I had to do 7 months (initial consultation and 6 months of nutrition visits). I was approved. I have to say I didn't like it at first, but in hindsight, I had 7 months to learn how to eat better. I lost very minimal weight over that time but I started working on bad habits. First it was actually eating every morning. Then it was eating more protien. Then it was eating the right foods. It all has prepared me for now and the future. I am almost 3 weeks post op, but I am glad I had time to correct my bad habits before I was thrown in the fire. Good luck. And I believe that God is on the delay.

3 days out having a tough time

I am 11 days out and I ended up having to go to the ER twice because of dehydration. I was focusing on the Protein and not counting how much liquid I was taking in. I felt HORRIBLE! If you are not getting enough liquids in, see your surgeon. They are ok giving you IV liquids as often as you need them. Now that I am focusing more on trying to get 640z of liquid in as opposed to 60 grams of protein, I feel much, much better. I am getting like 50 grams in and about 55-60 ounces of liquid in a day now. So my advice to you is focus on tracking your liquid and getting that in, even if you don't make your protein limit for the day. It will get easier to get those things down. And if you are having a hard time with thick Protein drinks, try making them with plain Water and adding a little more water to thin it out. Helps to get it down and adds to your liquid intake. Good luck. Trust me, my first week was brutal. Now I am feeling much better.
  15. Maybe not addicted so much as wanting what you can't have. That is human nature unfortunately. I could go weeks without breakfast and as soon I couldn't have food for breakfast, I wanted breakfast. Stay on course as much as you can for safety purposes, but remember that we are human. And the flesh is weak. BTW, I am 11 days post op and I struggle too. Especially because I have 7 people who do eat in my house. Good luck and I will pray for your strength :-) We are all in this together!
  16. Karen Scott, regret will do us no good now. I am sure your sleeve is not failing me. I see people with 75 pounds of weight loss in 5 months and I have felt that I am not losing fast enough to be where they are in 5 months, but I have to realize that roughly 1 pound a day ain't bad. After all, I wasn't losing it that fast preop. Don't put the cart before the horse. It may be a blessing in disguise that you are losing at a slow pace. Less dramatic excess skin!!! If I am at or near my goal weight this time next year, I will be good. We have to think long term or this whole experience will get to us. Trust me, I totally understand how you feel. I am almost 2 weeks out and I was wondering why I am only 11 pounds lighter than on my surgery day. Then I realized that hey, I am only 11 days post op, that's a pound a day. So I should be down 30 pounds in a month. Not bad! Hang in there Karen. You will do fine and you will look back in a year and wonder where the weight went. LOL
  17. I thought I added you but I don't see it in my friends. Can you send me a request again? Lol
  18. Kimba6999, i had my surgery done with Dr.Gluck. I'm supposed to find out Tuesday about starting my free one year membership at the mercy heart center. I am 11 days post op. I little about me: I am married with 6 kids (including 2 sets of twins). I gained most of my weight after getting injured during operation iraqi freedom. Couldn't workout without extreme pain or fear of going back into a wheel chair. My starting weight was 240, 229 surgery day, and 219 now. My initial goal is 150. My dream goal, 135. I have alot going on in my life and in a few months I'll find out if I passed the bar exam to become an attorney (graduated law school in May). I would love to workout together sometime, even walking, once I'm clear to do so. Had some hydration and severe pain issues early on. I'm sure I'll be cleared Tuesday at my visit. Thanks for responding back. Oh by the way, I'm Zaneta. You can find my Facebook under Zaneta Adams. Thanks

    August Sleevers Check In

I have to cook for a family of 8, well 7 if you take me out of the picture. I feel bad cooking and not knowing if the flavor is on point so a few times I actually put the chicken in my mouth chewed it a little and spit it out. I got the flavor but didn't swallow the calories or eat before I was supposed to ( I was sleeved on 8/26). I know it sounds gross but if you have to do that a few times and politely put a napkin to the mouth to get rid of what you don't want going down, that might help. Good luck!
