    VSG and GERD

Hey everyone!! I'm a little over 3yrs post OP (3/6/15)...wow that seems like a lifetime ago. I've had struggles over the past year and had a slight regain...about 20-25lbs from my lowest. But my concerns centers around GERD. I have to take omeprazole every single day. If I miss even one day...it's quite literally a fiery hell. I know that GERD is a side effect of complication from vsg, but I see a lot of people having revision surgery for it. So my question is...how do you go about that process? Is it self pay? Does ins cover it? If so, what ins do you have...if that's not too personal? I'm not going to lie...I would LOVE to regain my old restriction...but I'd love to get rid of GERD more. So does anyone have any advise out there? Thanks!!
  2. So it's been a long time since I've sought support here. Pre-op I lived on this site. But it was almost as if I lost my "home base" after surgery. I had my sleeve done in March 2015. I lost a total of about 150lbs...which I know is great. I' a completely different person now. But for the life of me, I can' get below 200lbs. The lowest I've EVER been was 202lbs and that was 2 hours a day at the gym and on a mostly liquid diet. I' currently between 215-220 and I'm less than pleased. I want ONEDERLAND! I' frustrated to the point I'm considering revision. Anyone out there have any thoughts, suggestions, words of encouragement?? Kinda reaching a breaking point of it doesn't matter what I eat or do...I'm a wls failure.

@@katyh2015 I'm doing great. Definitely over did it with traveling yesterday and today so I'm exhausted. But overall I feel great! No hunger at all. Definitely learning to sip and not gulp.....that's been an experience for sure! Now I'm finally home and just relaxing. Thanks for checking on me!
  4. It's official!!!! I made it! It's all still pretty surreal. I feel good. The incisions are sore but other than that I'm great! I've been nursing gatorade all day. My sister and her husband are currently sight seeing. I went to the marcado hildago this morning. We had no idea it was an all food farmer's market. I wasn't the least bit hungry but I was kinda jealous of all the things they have here that I can't get at home! Ok..time to order some broth. I was told the seafood broth is amazing. But I think at this point anything is going to be amazing. Thanks for all the well wishes! I'm about to rock this new life with everything I have!

Relaxing at the Marriott! Kinda bummed that my sister and her husband are going to get tacos but oh well. I can't wait for tomorrow! I did all my pre op tests today and I'm scheduled for the first surgery in the morning!
  6. Currently relaxing at the Marriott. This hotel is awesome!! Everyone is SO accomodating! Did my pre op tests earlier. I'm all set and scheduled for the first surgery in the morning!!!! I can't believe this is actually happening. I'm not nervous or anything. Just ready to have it done!!

I'll be there Thursday the 5th, getting sleeved at the OCC on the 6th! I can't believe this time next week I'll be sleeved!! So excited.....and getting nervous.
  8. Is there a once daily bariatric multivitamin that anyone recommends? Or what kind of multivitamins do you take?? I have my calcium, fiber, b12, and biotin supplements already but I'm looking for a good multi.
  9. @@Kindle Thanks for the suggestions! I'm drinking 2-3 premier protein shakes per day. They only have about 2 carbs, 1gm sugar and 160 cals per serving. I didn't even think of the syarvation mode since I haven't been hungry! I thought maybe it was water retention. It's all just really frustrating. I've lost about 10lbs fo far since last Monday.

    March Sleevers

I've been drinking between 48-64oz of water per day...drinking 2-3 premier protein shakes which are 160 cal each and very low carb. I'd say my overall caloric intake is roughly 500-700 cals per day depending on how many shakes I have. My NUT said my pre-op should be 3 shakes and leafy greens....nothing else. I'm just super frustrated today. I'm hoping that the scale is nicer tomorrow. ..
  11. This is day 8 on pre-op. I'm doing 2-3 protien shakes per day and cabbage or brussel sprouts occasionally. I need to lose another 6lbs by next thursday and I'm freaking out!! I woke up this morning and the scale said I GAINED a lb!! How does that even happen?!? Anyone have any advice?? I have to be under a certain BMI to avoid having to pay an extra fee. 6lbs in 7 days.....someone help!

@@Spicy06 I'm on day 5 of my liquid diet. Not gonna lie....day 3 was rough. I was very...angry...is the nice way to put it! Lol! Now I'm ok. I don't get hungry and i feel like I have energy. I think the excitement of knowing what's to come helps override any hunger...at least it does for me! Well that and sleep. I go to bed super early so I don't get hungry. Don't worry! You'll do great!
  14. I started my liquid about 4 or 5 days ago. Today I am having the worst gas and diarrhea. Is this normal? Anyone else have to deal with this...especially while trying to work??

What Happened to the OCC thread?

I've been wondering the same thing!! That thread was so informative! I searched for Kindle on here and found a thread that she started. Alex responded and said something about lawsuits and having to hide threads that mentioned certain doctors. I guess that's what happened to the OCC thread. I hope it shows up soon tough!
  17. I'm getting sleeved on March 6th with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC. I'll be at the Marriott from March 5-9! It looks like a lot of places use that hotel for surgery patients. I'm starting to get super nervous. I'm on my pre-op diet now....2 Protein shakes, 1 meal per day then all liquids for the last 2 weeks before surgery. Definitely a struggle but I know the end result will be worth it! Good luck to everyone getting sleeved or recently sleeved!
  18. My surgery isn't until February. I'm trying to figure out plane tickets now.
  19. Sorry. I should have clarified. I meant after I'm cleared from the OCC to go home. So thats....about 3 days later I think. My surgery is scheduled for a Friday so I think I'd be fully released Monday or Tuesday.
  20. Question for the awesome post-ops that had to travel long distance. I live in Atlanta and due to some work issues I'll have to fly home the day I'm released. I'm concerned about flying so soon after surgery especially such a long distance. I'm looking at flights with a stop/layover just so I can walk around if i need to. Has anyone flown home so soon after surgery and how did you feel? The flight time including layover is around 6-7hours. Thanks everyone!!! I don't know what I'd do without this group!!
  21. Hey everyone!! I have a question. First....congrats to everyone who recently had their surgery!!! Ok, so in general, how much time did everyone take off from work? My surgery is in March but my employer is already asking how ling I'll be gone. I was thinking about just taking 2 weeks but I've read a lot of other people taking up to 6 or 8 weeks. I want to make sure I'm not jumping into work too soon after surgery. So any help is appreciated!!!
  22. Hi friends- I’m having a dilemma. I am scheduled for surgery March 6 of next year. The NUT wanted me to lose about 45lbs before the surgery. I started Atkins on Sept 2nd, and I haven’t lost any weight! I’ve been SUPER strict with everything I eat/drink. I completely cut out carbs, sugar, and caffeine! I thought I was doing well when I saw that I lost about 4lbs in 2 weeks. I was getting hopeful that I might actually be able to reach the NUT goal. But then I checked the scale yesterday I had put back 3 of the 4lbs! It’s very frustrating. So my questions are…how many of you had a lot to lose before surgery? How did you do it? Did you take anything extra like diet pills or supplements? Any help is appreciated. I’m so bummed out about this!
  23. Ok so I have to push out my surgery by a few weeks for work. Does anyone have any input on having the surgery done on a Firday? Is there support over the weekend? I'm sure there is but I just wanted to see if anyone had a weekend experience?
  24. Good luck ladies!!!! Prayers headed your way!!
  25. Ok, I have paid my deposit!!! I am going to the amazing OCC!! The deposit is nonrefundable so it looks like I’m going through with it! The reality of it hasn’t really hit yet. This is literally life changing. But to be honest I’m terrified. I’m not scared of the surgery. That doesn’t bother me at all. It’s life after the surgery that scares me. How do I do “thin” or smaller in general? I’ve always been the thick or big girl. I know how to act and how to expect others to act when I'm big. So after this surgery when I lose a bunch of this excess baggage how do I adjust? Is anyone else scared of who you’ll become after surgery?
