Who is Getting Banded this Week?

Getting banded tomorrow 12/27. Been on prot liq diet since the 17th. Lost 7 1/2 lbs and hope to lose another 1 or 2 by hospital weigh in before surgery. Drinking tons of water today (day before) to flush out more stuff, hydrate my body and just doing prot shakes now. I do not want any reason for doc to back out. I can't wait! Good luck everyone getting done this week!

    pre-op liquid diet...

Our pre-op liquid protein diet for 10 days consists of 3 cups of low fat or fat free plain cottage cheese or same plain yogurt, three protein shakes, low salt/fat free chicken and/or beef broth, as many sugar free popsicles or fudgesicles and s/f jello as we want in one day. I practiced it for 4 days two weeks ago and I was fine - I didn't have everything thing but I did do the 3 cups of cottage cheese and the three shakes and some broths and maybe one popsicle. I actually felt better. I start again tomorrow, this time for real -I'm now 10 days before my surgery. I'm ready.

i am staying on plan today because ...

I'm staying on plan today because I've eaten too much lately and I have my pre-op/lab hospital visit Monday the 17th and that's the day I start the liquid diet too! - I need to drop 5 lbs by next Monday to be at the same weight I was at when I got weighed at the dr's office 2 weeks ago! what a nightmare of food it's been lately - I would call it the "seafood" diet. I'm doing the low card right now, under 20 carbs/day - just to give it a headstart and hopefully drop a few pounds.

    December Surgery Dates

My surgeon doctor has told us that we would consume appx. 1000-1200 cals a day on the protein liquid diet and even after once on solids. I think when I practiced for four days I was counting my cals and it totalled appx. 800 also. I think that's too low so I'd have to add to make it to 1000. We will lose a lot, probably 2 1/2 to 3 lbs at 1000. I think our body will get used to it and we will probably feel less hungry after a while. Getting rid of sugar and flour products is a good start for me, it will get rid of the cravings that cause me to gain weight. Also cheese...and wings...I can't think about these anymore. Why do I lose these so much! Counting down now.

OMG Candy, chicken wings!!!! I'm staying out of stores right now cause that's what I'd target!!! I'm home today too so it doesn't help. Pack lots of liquids for tomorrow. Were you feeling okay for work today? It's your 6th day.

Missy, did you have to do the protein liquid diet before surgery, I know some doctors don't require it.

Good luck Missy, and yes Candy, it is hell waiting... I can't wait to start the liquid protein diet next Monday (10 days before surgery) just to stop eating so much right now - I have the hungry horrors! Did you all go thru this before your pre-op diet? Missy, I wish I was in your shoes but I know it will be my turn soon also. Let us know how you make out. Best of luck.

I'm sorry to hear you're going thru a tough time with the clear liquids. I can't imagine not being hungry on it. Maybe you should call your doctor about it and they'll start you on the protein liquid so you don't feel hungry. With my doctor only the first two days are clear then I will start the liquid protein. I would be cranky too!

Tomecia, glad to hear you're feeling better. What kind of pain meds did you get? my doctor didn't mention me getting any pain meds. I thought I was just going to have to take liquid tylenol. Do you have any of that?

    Getting to know you ...

Hello Friends, I'm a 53 yr old (to be 54 in mid Jan), married 2 1/2 yrs for a wonderful guy, been with him 6 yrs and we live 22 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts. I was married very young at 19 to my 1st husband and had two daughters that are now 33 & 34! I still can't believe it - where has the time gone! My 1st and I were only married for 4 yrs. I raised my girls alone (by choice - found out he was involved with drugs and wouldn't give it up or get help). I stayed single up until I met my new husband 6 yrs ago. My oldest is married and gave me two wonderful grandkids, my grandson, Alexander 14 and granddaughter Kaitlynd 13. My youngest just graduated cosmotology school after working for a couple of years in the food industry after graduating from cullinary arts school, she had to find herself I guess - I think this is it for her now. We also have four cats that we love as our children. Can you tell I love cats? If it was possible to have a wild cat in the house I would, lol. I worked for 20 + yrs in business after receiving my b degree in business. When the last company I worked for as a buyer sold out and laid everyone off, I made a drastic career change. I went to esthetics (skin care) school (I was tired of the rat race and stressful jobs) - I needed sanity! The kids were also out of college and on their own so it made it possible. Best thing I ever did. Three years ago I opened my own skin care business. I have struggled with it but absolutely love my new work. Thank goodness I have a husband who can carry the load of the house etc. but it's not easy - so so far so good though. I am affected by the slow economy right now but think positively for the future. I have been overweight at 190 lbs at 5'5" most of all my adult life, dieting my whole life, losing gaining losing and then gaining more and more, out of control! Can't do it anymore, I'm tired, and I'm at my highest now at 246. Learned about the Lapband on line a few months ago by accident and never looked back. Read as much as I could about it and made the decision this was for me, talked to my hubby about it and made him my support system at home, he's happy about it. He just want me to be happy. Now just waiting for Dec 17th to start the pre-op diet and being banded on the 27th, woohoo! I wish everyone the very best of luck with your banding and a great healthy future to enjoy your life with your family! Thank you for sharing your story with everyone - it's wonderful to read from people all over the country/world. Happy holidays!

    Why are YOU Fat?

Why am I fat? Because I eat too much. Once I start it seems I can't stop. I don't know if I have any emotional reasons why I eat because I pretty much eat for every reason and I really never went through any real traumas in my past and had a pretty normal upbringing). I love food (or at least I think I do). Sometimes I don't want to eat anymore, I feel funny waiting for my dh to leave the room so I can sneak two more cookies... It's an addiction for me, this is why I know the band will help me control what amount I can eat and will allow me to feel full quicker so I won't look for more food - I never feel full. I'm looking forward to that new feeling. Making the right food choices is very important too. I'm clearing my house of my dh's foods (putting in the garage under lock and key!) He understands, he doesn't have a weight problem and loves to eat goodies. I bought him a treasure chest and putting a chain and lock on it with all his food. He thought that was cool!

    December Surgery Dates

I'm impatiently waiting for my date. I've been depressed the past couple of days. I hope it goes away. I just want to start my losing journey. Right now all I think about is eating. I tired of feeling like this.

    Keeping secrets

I totally agree with you Hungryforchange. That's exactly how I feel about telling about the surgery for me. I thought I had written it, hehe. The only difference is I'm getting banded Dec 27th and will be on protein liquid diet during our family Christmas eve party. That will definately be a challenge. Since I see my family quite often (we all live pretty close to each other), and just spent Thanksgiving with them, I won't feel bad if all of a sudden I don't feel well and stay home Christmas Eve night! That's my secret! I'll still send my hubby to the party, hehe.

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

Maria, you are sooooo talented! Thank you for sharing your projects! They are beautiful. I know I'm going to have to start little projects to keep my hands busy from thinking about eating - and Winter is the perfect time to start. I LOVE your kitty in the scarf!

    Advice Appreciated

Oh I forgot to say, if money is available and spending it doesn't stress you out, then by all means get it done Dec. 17th.

    Advice Appreciated

This is a personal choice. If I were going to save $9,000, I would wait one year, but that's my opinion. Money's hard to come by these days. Also, I would try to lose weight on my own during that time, but I would definately get banded. I'd be careful not to gain any weight while waiting, depending on how much you have to lose. Good luck.

    What is wrong with me?!

I'm also waiting to be banded and it's Dec 27th, less than a month away and I am so happy!

We all get to the point, while waiting for the surgery, to go crazy with food, and I mean uncontrollably really crazy! I used to stop for KFC twice a week, Taco Bell, McD's, Wendy's, chocolates, bread & butter, you name it I ate it! I couldn't stop myself! I was worse then before I even knew about banding. So now, one month before surgery I realized I was feeling really sick of poisoning my body with all this food. My body told me to STOP!!! My mind knew if I didn't, not only would I gain more weight but I could have a heart attack before the surgery! So I stopped. What forced me and helped me also is that I have my Pre-op app't with the surgeon Dec. 3rd and I was so afraid that I would have gained weight since my 1st visit with him and now that I've been approved for the surgery. How embarrassing that would be for me I thought. So I put myself for one week on the pre-op high protein liquid diet. I'm on day four now of the liquid diet and I know everyone is different, but I think my body is really thanking me. I feel better already, physically and mentally and I don't feel it being difficult at all. I'm also very busy at this time of the year, but the key is to have everything you need at home and at work and know what you can have to eat and drink and sticking to it - my diet is very simple and doable. I'm not hungry either! It all works out to about 1000 cals/day. I'm losing the sugar and starch cravings. It feels great. It helps me realize that I can be sucessful. Good luck, you know when it will be your time. Everyone gets to their success their own way at their own time, and you will too. That's my story.
