  1. Really, in the grand scheme of things, a little temporary hair loss is a *tiny* price to pay for health and longevity. Some people experience more hair loss than others. Some people have none at all. Most peopled do get immediate regrowth. If your loss lasts longer than a couple of months and you aren't seeing new growth, you could get blood work done to see if you've developed any vitamin deficiencies. But if you are taking your vitamins and getting your protein in, you *should* have minimal loss and have immediate regrowth. Of course, if there are other factors at play, you might have to consult with your doctor.
  2. Yeah, they are completely unique to each surgeon/nutritionist, so you should reference the materials your program gave you. If they haven't given you the guidelines yet, call them up and ask for them.
  3. Sorry. My question wasn't directed it a you. It was directed at the person who said it takes them 3 hours to eat a meal. I was curious how anyone could get fluids in if they are eating for 3 hours at a time and not allowed to eat and drink at the same time.
  4. There seems to be a common belief that people magically lose faster in the first 9-12 months after surgery and if you don't lose the bulk of your weight by then, you will struggle. I personally don't believe in it at all. Your metabolism doesn't arbitrarily switch off right at the 12 month mark. What I think happens is that you get back into real life. Your surgery is no longer THE thing on your mind. You aren't as mindful of every bite you take. You aren't as strict about putting Protein first. You might let your eating schedule slip a bit. You might go for more convenience-type foods as you get swept up in your daily activities. You likely don't have the same sensitivity to certain foods that you did early on. Your stomach is fully healed and you reach the new max capacity of your sleeve/pouch. So all of those things add up to make it harder to continue to lose weight quickly. I do believe it is important to really use the early months post-op to establish new, healthy habits. Find foods that you know work for you and you can keep eating long term. Get into a routine with your exercise. All of those things are easier for you to do in the early months when your surgery is still "top of mind". If you get to where you do a lot of those things without thinking about it, then when real life creeps back in, they will be more automatic. But to say it's impossible to lose weight 12+ months out is ridiculous. It just requires focus and effort.
  5. Happy it went well. Don't share pics until you are healed up in a couple months. You will scare everyone off of surgery!
  6. Welcome to the "Dreaded Week 3 Stall!" About 95% of us experience it. It is completely normal. It can last as little as a few days and as much as a couple of weeks. Just stick to your program. Focus on your water, protein, and walking. Put the scale away.
  7. There's not much you CAN do, but wait it out. Hair falls out due to events that happened MONTHS ago. There's nothing you can do right now to stop it. My hair loss lasted about a month and half (3.5-5 months out) and then began regrowing right away.
  8. That seems like BS to me. There are TONS of people on these forums who have been successful with sleeve after having their bands removed.
  9. Not everyone has severe restriction with liquids early-on. Those who do, it's just due to swelling. If you can get your liquids in right away, that is awesome! You are one of the lucky ones! None of us have restriction with fluids past a couple weeks post-op when the swelling goes down. You are just ahead of the game. I promise you that once you move onto more solid foods and are fully healed, you will definitely feel restriction.
  10. If it's taking you 3 hours to eat one meal and you can't eat and drink at the same time, when are you supposed to get your water in?
  11. @@tlennerton I'm sorry to hear about your ordeal. Do you feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel at this point or do you anticipate more issues moving forward?
  12. Hi, I'm having my surgery at OCC on May 18th. How many days were you there ? Sent from my Nexus 5 using the BariatricPal App Typically you just spend one night in the clinic (the night after your surgery). One night in the hotel before and 1-2 nights in the hotel after.
  13. @@future Mrs 7 days seems super early for eggs! Glad you didn't have any trouble.
  14. I don't think I've eaten that much rice combined in the 20 months since I was sleeved.
  15. It's definitely messed with my head. Every time I've tracked food in the past, it's because I've been trying to lose weight. It was a real mental challenge for me to be okay with NOT having a calorie deficit once I started tracking for maintenance. I was in like full-on panic a few times.
  16. The cheapest option for shakes is to buy whey isolate powder and make your own with water, almond milk, or soy milk. You can buy flavored protein powders or unflavored and flavor you shakes with sugar-free syrups.
  17. Mashed potatoes are starchy. Try yogurt, refried beans, or cottage cheese.
  18. My nutritionist gave me guidelines for my shakes, so I'm surprised you didn't receive something like that. Here are the guidelines I was given: Minimum of 20 grams of Protein per serving Less than 8 grams of carbs with less than 2 grams of sugar, and a minimum of 3 grams of fiber Less than 3 grams of fat Less than 200 calories per serving, best at 150 Whey isolate is preferable
  19. Heh! I had my surgery in Mexico too, but thankfully they had English translations of everything I had to sign and translated my surgical records into English for me to give to my PCP here in the states as well. Don't worry. I doubt that they'd have much legal recourse even if you did sign away your first born. Plus, it might give you an out if your first born ends up being a jerk!
  20. May 10 is right around the corner! Time to really start getting prepared!
  21. I applaud you. This early out, you should be focusing on your program, hitting your water and protein targets, healing up, and moving as much as possible. So many people get too focused on the scale and forget that they need to take care of themselves. This isn't a race, it's the rest of your life!
  22. I would suggest calling your surgeon and asking about whether you could/should take more Prilosec.
  23. Curbing your emotional eating and finding other ways to cope with emotion will serve you very well post-op. One of the biggest struggles for me in the early months was figuring out how to process emotion without turning to food once it was no longer an option. It was a real challenge and I definitely could have benefited from some counseling I think.
  24. How much Prilosec are you taking? I have to take two a day... one in the morning and one in the evening. Is your heartburn worse after eating? Are you maybe eating too fast? I notice that if I eat too much or two fast, I get heartburn-like symptoms still.
  25. I need to splurge for that. My current one doesn't expire for another four years. At least it's not as bad as my passport photo.....
