Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.
I had mine the 8th too I am already home! It was supposed to be at 1pm but due to complications with other cases & a previous obligation my doctor had I didn't get in the OR until after 10pm, out or surgery around 1am & in my room again at 3:40am! But let me just say it hurts more then I expected! I had a c-section and that hurt this way worse especially the gas pains oh my! But less then 12 hours after surgery I was on my way home & getting to see my boys (husband, son, 2 male dogs) I was so happy. I had a significant amount of discharge from the largest incision under my left rib they had to re-glue it for me. And taking pills weird sip of water & a pill equals full feeling! I am looking forward to tracking everyone's journey on here!

Distorted Self Image
I think prior to going thru the process I had an image of a smaller person in my mind. Then I would catch sight of myself & be like wow that's not what I always see. I too do my hair & get it done. I slack on my nails but I do file & clear coat them, & I do try to dress nice so I hear you. I'm also wondering what the new me will look like. I bet that we'll all be just as fabulous only healthier!

Waiting... To go in for weight loss surgery operation
Thank you! I do know this will just be a blip on my memory screen just like my c-section pain was; put obviously like you said when it's happening it stinks! Taking the pills is weird right now one & a sip of Water & I am full! I have had 4 sips of a prepared Protein shake it's too thick for me right now so I will have to go with a thinner preparation. I am just focusing on getting 64 ounces of water in so I don't have to go get fake hydrated at the ER. But I am now only officially 24 hours out from the operation so I need to focus on that too. My largest incision gave me some problems oozing/bleeding right off every time I coughed but that incision was much bigger then I had expected.

Waiting... To go in for weight loss surgery operation
Ok so fin ally after being scheduled for 1pm, moved to 5, 6, 7 & 8 I went on the OR table at little after 10pm. I got back to my room about 3:40am. I could have to say that moving around now that I am home kind of stinks. It's a lot more sore & tender then I thought it would be. I would pay money to pass the leftover gas in my stomach from my surgery.

Waiting... To go in for weight loss surgery operation
They simply said that his first surgery went over by 3 hours, and that he was in with his next patient they do it to keep you informed. I am diabetic they have to monitor my sugars & I am sure they want to make sure I am not getting anxious while I wait. I am RNY not a sleeve patient I don't know what the other patients were just that he does 3 surgeries in a day not only weight loss as he is a gastro surgeon & that I was getting pushed back...

Waiting... To go in for weight loss surgery operation
Haha funny! I can't wait to be on the losers bench! I have lost 15 pounds in the last few weeks & I can't wait to drop even more!! I had to maintain my weight for awhile for insurance reasons so it's been nice being able to lose without worrying. I have 3 hours to wait because his first case went really bad like 3 hours turned into 6 hours & pushed me & the 2nd case back. So I am sitting in pre-op watching Bones re-runs all hooked up to my IV's & waiting for my new operating room time which is now 5ish... It's a long day for me & my surgeon.

1 week away!
Just siting waiting to go in for my operation. Just found out that the anesthesiologist I was supposed to have is booked off on an urgent case so he is going to find me a subtitle substitute. I am supposed to go in at 1pm for surgery but things seem to be running behind today. No nerves yet I assume they'll kick in when I get in the room with my gown on it'll be more real

The waiting game + no support = ANXIETY!
Well then do it just for you, which is kind of how it sounds like you have been going at this whole process. Sometimes you have to stop associating with people who are taking more then they give & take care of yourself. I hope you are able to get thru this & I suspect that you will just fine.

The waiting game + no support = ANXIETY!
I am sorry to here that you are feeling unsupported in this. It seems like your husband is dealing with some self esteem issues that he is projecting onto you. I have a very supportive husband he too does have some esteem issues as well but he never makes me feel bad like that. We aren't as intimate as I would like to be & I attribute it my health issues & our son he's 2 & sometimes being parents just interferes with wanting to be sexual. However the things you described don't sound that way they sound emotionally abusive. It sounds like you already carry enough emotional baggage from your other life experiences that cause you pain without the person whose supposed to love you for better or worse making you feel like crap. I would suggest seeking out a counselor would deals with family & bariatric patients so that they can work with you as a bariatric patient, as a married woman & potentially you & your husband to work thru your issues as a couple. I wish you luck with your process I get my RNY tomorrow & have been thru the 6 month waiting game & insurance approval process so I sympathize with you. You will get where you need to be don't let other people drag you down with them.

How was your surgery?
-
How did you tell people?
I have a few people in my circle who have said things about other people we have known who have had it done that it was the easy way out so we only told who needed to know in case something went wrong so my husband would have help. It seems like people are supportive of weight loss in general not always how you get there, whether it's concern out of lack of understanding of RNY or they wish they had done it too? However getting the surgery done is personal & you should have a good support system so tell people/talk about it with people if you think it will help you. Or seek out a counselor to help you sort out your feelings about how so & so will react to it. You may find like I did that telling my jeweler why I needed a ring guard was easier then explaining the real reason I am getting surgery on 9/8 to my mother in-law or best friend; you'll just know who'll support you better.

Amazing!
I want to be like you at 8 weeks;) great work!!

September surgery
I am on the 8th our program has a very liberal pre-operative diet I am being more strict with it & only having the shakes & other clear liquids. I am not actually nervous so maybe I am some kind of freak? During my pre-operative diet we had already scheduled our sons 2nd birthday party. So had to pretend to eat in front of my husbands family as we have only told my parents, brother & an aunt who will come take care of our son when I am in the hospital & both of us postoperative. My mother in-law is relentless about weight & conversations about it ie after I had my son she told me I would look better after after I lost weight; however all she ever wants to do is something involving food. The people we have chose not to tell will be supportive of a person they see losing weight but they will not be supportive of weight loss surgery. I am curious what it'll be like after I get it done, I have had my tubes tied & a c-section so I feel like I am prepared for abdominal surgery & the associated pain. I am curious what my stomach will look like after I lose weight since my skin is a mess from pregnancy & previous operations. The whole no liquids for 30 mins before eating & 1 hour after eating makes me nervous about getting in all the fluids plus all the protein I need to during the day - but I know I will figure it out it will be a struggle at first possible but doable. Getting my medications down makes me nervous but I am very hopeful that I will be eliminating almost all of the medications I take I am a little nervous about the chewable vitamins making my mouth raw but that's something to figure out later on.

Protein bars INSTEAD of shakes?
The biggest issue with not drinking the shakes is you aren't getting good protein & you aren't getting that extra fluid. Both the doctor & the nut said that in the first months that it was dehydration that was likely to send us back to the ER, that protein bar will sit like a brick. Your still healing stomach needs another few weeks to months before you even think about something like that. Talk to your nutritionist all your food should be moist right now, try finding some unflavored protein powder & putting it in your yogurt sprinkling it in unexpected places or picking up the protein fruit juice. You are severely malapsorptive still your body needs that protein just not in the dry bar form - the first bite might go down ok but you likely will suffer thru the subsequent bites.

I didn't see that I will have to go look at that thank you! Off to get my hair done before it's too fragile to get done:)

Post op pain
My surgeon said that my incision site on the left just under my bra would be the most sore because that's the largest one that he makes his largest incision because his stapler goes thru that port & he moves that one around a lot more then the other ports. So that might just be why you are extra sore there beyond the extra stitches & bleed you had.

1 week away!
I am going in on 9/8 for my gastric bypass! I am about to start the 2nd week of my pre-operative diet which isn't all that bad; the hardest part was pretending life was "normal" during my sons 2nd birthday party this weekend. As we have kept the surgery between myself, my husband, my parents, my brother & my aunt as we have a lot of people who wouldn't understand the choice to get surgery; although I have found everyone loves to support weight loss? My husband sadly find my family is more supportive of him then his own family & although my father doesn't understand the surgery he has wished me well & hopes it works for me. I have been doing a lot of reading and prep work with the program thru the hospital that we are using since mid April, I feel really prepared for the surgery & am so ready to be a healthier mommy for my son. A better roll model who's roll doesn't interfere with showing him now to live a healthy life or riding bikes with him. I look forward to taking less medication. Well I just wanted to put it on there!

Pre-op Weight training?
I honestly just use "Queen Helen" cocoa butter it smells nice & I don't pay a lot for it, my OBGYN said when I was pregnant that it's just keeping it hydrated. My skin genetically rots but my stretch marks from pregnancy weren't all that bad, I also used bio oil & that helped reduce their appear as well as mederma on my c-section scars. They are all just battle wounds;) I am going to be 33 in 5 days, I am 5'5" & weigh 240 but my skin tone & type has never been kind to weight fluctuation. I have been doing core stability training I find it's my small muscles that are really weak but my others are pretty strong. How's getting into the weight trading grove going?
