  1. LOL Wincehstergirl - we are about the exact same stage - I am 4 weeks Post-op tomorrow and I do miss the ability to crunch on something. My nutritionist did warn me about this and said that this stage of Puree is the worst and to just get through it - look for the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been crunching on ice and that has helped (weird but it works).
  2. I am looking at these comments and a little surprised. My surgeon told me I had to crush everything all the time (or get chewable). I would love it I could go back to taking them whole (as my pills are not that big) as my 2 at night are so bitter I have been skipping them once in a while (they are for other conditions and not related to nutrition/vitamins etc). Has anyone else been told they have to crush? For how long and what size pills?
  3. Fallonl- are you tracking all your intake. I find MyFitnessPal a great app as it tells me how many Protein Grams I am getting in. If I stick to at least 50 - 70 gms and get all my Water in I am losing on those days. I track my water on there as well. I suggest tracking and watching sodium intake, increase Protein intake and increase water intake.
  4. Joyce - Chevygirll said what I was thinking. Someone told me about the GasX strips at about post-op day 5 and they were a life saver. I got the mint and did not mind the taste at all. Before that I was bloated and sore even with walking. Definitely worth trying
  5. Did Band removal and Conversion to By-pass on July 14th. Best thing I ever did!! Differences - Post-op about the same, no issues with eating (and things getting stuck)...the small portions are making it tough to get all the protein in but I have become very concentrated on that and know which foods are better for me (ie. ground up chicken with fat free gravy, egg whites, protein shakes at least 1 per day if not two). I have some nausea when trying new foods but nothing that requires me to medicate. Definitely lactose intolerant now but using Almond milk helps with that. Not going without liquor seemed o.k to me before but I do rather miss my glass of wine every now and then - I got some sugar free vodka I may try in about a month (not that adventurous yet). overall my weight loss is much better and I am continually losing!
  6. I did my band removal and By-pass surgery the same day and no complications. My doc just said he was going to do extra testing to make sure I had no leaks. Interesting part was, when he took my band out, he found the tubing broken in 2- hence why it was not successful in the end for me.
  7. @@DLCoggin - sorry I am late jumping in on this and see you have had a ton of me too's but I would love a copy of your spreadsheet - jcwills@cdelightband.net. Working on Turkey Meatballs tonight with Marinara sauce- friend of mine (By-pass patient too) suggested this
  8. Thanks Angel...good to know! I will definitely check
  9. Casey999 I think many times complications are often related to not following all the instructions carefully. I am a nurse but not in this field at all. I did a lot of research and complications were related to not getting enough fluids, not getting up walking soon enough (causing clots or pneumonia)or not eating the appropriate foods (causing leaks). Everything has to be reported as a complication whether is was for a reason that was brought on or just by chance so the rates look at little higher than other surgeries. Also, many complications come from patients that have other serious health concerns like heart problems, blood flow concerns etc. If you do not have these complications you should do just fine as long as you follow the instructions carefully. If you do have any of these complications just make sure to be very honest about any symptoms to your doc during your per-op and make sure that he/she has done a thorough review of any issues. I am 6 days post-op and no complications at all to this point. Got up walking as soon as I could and have stuck 100% to the diet they have given me. Taking care of my wounds as they instructed. I think you will do well
  10. Angel - so we area allowed to use GasX strips at this point? (6 days post-op)? If so I will send someone to the store right now!
  11. Maime60 I am having the same issue. I have stayed away from any gas causing agents and even Lactose at this point just in case. I am up and walking quite a bit and yet still have bloating and gas. It is making me not want to eat or drink as I feel so full all the time- I know that I need to but it is a struggle. I would love any ideas on this as well!
  12. Thank you Ginger Snaps and Tgarden. I am doing much better today. Off the pain meds mostly...I am taking a dose at night as I seem to be pretty sore by end of day and feel this will help me sleep. I may not need tonight but will judge by how I feel. My older daughter went to the store for me and got the Kroger Carb control yogurt as it has the lowest sugar but it only has 9 grms of Protein...I either need to add the
  13. Hi everyone I am new to this forum. I had By Pass surgery on Monday (July 14th,2014). I actually converted to the By Pass after I had my Lap Band Removed (that was placed in 2005) and the surgeon said he saw my problem when he removed the band and the tubing was broken in two. I am in my Clear liquid stage about to move to full liquids in the next day or two. My weight on starting was 316 but I kept some off after the 10% weight loss go round and weighed in at 298 for my Pre-op appointment. I am doing well(I think). I am still taking the Lortab Elixer about 2-3 times a day - is that where others were at this stage or should I be backing off the narcotics already? I am excited to change to full liquids just because I am really tired of Jello and broth. Any suggestions for 'Smooth' greek yogurts - My doctor says I can have the kind with fruit as long as it is sugar free and smooth. I have no clue which ones that would include. Any advice or hints at this stage are more than welcome
