Illinois Medicaid And Lap Band Surgery
I have been trying to get the lapband surgery done for a while now. I lost my job and had to get on Illinois Medicaid (Family Health Network). Is there another plan that I should pick that will help me get approved faster? What doctor do you suggest? I live in the south suburbs of Chicago. Thanks!!! Kim

Your Aetna experience?
Hubby lost job and insurance! Oh well. He got a new job the very next day, but won't be eligible for benefits until 90 days. Oddly enough it's Aetna so I'll be starting this process ALL OVER AGAIN! Yuck!

Hubby lost job & insurance... :( :(
I finally was able to start my road to be a bander and my husband was fired on Tuesday. He got hired at another place right away the next day. Oddly enough they also have Aetna, but he won't qualify for the insurance for 90 days. We find out how much Cobra will be next week....I'm sure it'll be too much. Oh well, I guess I'll have to start all over in 90 days.

Why do Dr's try to push the Roux-en-Y vs Lap Band?
I was told for my eating habits and weight that bypass would be the best choice. Unfortunetly, my husband won't go for it. He says I can have lap-band only, and I'm cool with that. Maybe it was due to your weight and eating habits as well.

Where you able to sleep in a foreign bed? My doctor says he believes I have sleep apnea and I have to have the same sleep test, but I have a hard time sleeping in a foreign place without my husband, including hotels. Do they give you something to help you sleep?

Your Bariatric Coordinator needs to get on her job then. Why is she even submitting it if she thinks you have no hope. Do you have any co-morbilities? Do you snore?

I have Aetna and my supervised diet is 3 months. I have to pay a $15 co pay for the 3 dr. visits and $150 total for 3 dietician visits. The lab work and stress test is included. Why do you have to pay so much?

Your Aetna experience?
I just started with Aetna 1/1/08 and the band is covered. I just have to go through a 12 week weight loss program. I wish there was a way I didn't have to go through that, but I have patients. I've done every diet in the book. Does anyone know what the weight loss program consists of? My first appointment with Dr. Nutricianist is 1/17/08. Thanks! :whoo:Soon to be banded, Kim

Finally got insurance to pay for lapband!!!
I've been a member of this forum for a few months. I finally called the doctor's office today, after getting on my husband's insurance, and they said I am covered by Aetna. I will go through a 12 week program. The nurse at the dr. office said my surgery will probably be around the end of April or May. I'm totally excited. Ive enjoyed this forum since I found it, and look forward to sharing my journey as well. :whoo:Sooned to be banded....Kim

Flexible Spending/Flex Benefits...How much?
I need to enroll in Flexible Spending/Flex Benefits for next year but I don't know how much to take out. Can anyone help me with a ROUGH Guess-timate of how much it may cost after insurance pays? Is it just co-pays & deductibles? Thanks in advance for help. My hope is to get banded next year when I get on my husband's insurance. Thanks, Kim

New Chicago Friends Thread.....
Hi, I live on the southside of Chicago and I'm interested in getting the lap-band. My insurance had it as an exclusion, so I will be going under my husband's insurance beginning in January. I've only seen one presentation here in Chicago regarding lap-band. Who was your surgeon? Did they help you get approved through insurance? Any advice would be helpful!:glasses Thanks!
