Metformin post-op?
I just seen that someone was put on it for healthy ovaries??? Might have to Google this one. I sure wouldn't want other side effects from it when it's really not needed..I have read some where about taking kelp for infertility or not ovulating properly? I would look into the kelp or seaweed...I'd chk that out.. I have a friend who her Dr said she wouldn't have kids bc she has pos. ..that's not always true! An that's when I came across the info on kelp or seaweed. ..

Metformin post-op?
I'd like to know why these drs feel the need to add metformin? I have not taken it since surgery. They took my bs levels 2 x a day it was in 70s compared to 120 to 150 preop...I think I would talk to surgeon or ur endocrinologist about that. I don't understand. ..I wouldn't want my b.s. dropping too low an cause other symptoms. .hope someone else gets in on this thread.

need your opinion
I havnt told anyone other then a few close friends but it's eventually goin to get out...if ur Dr asked u then u better believe ur a success! U obviously lost what was needed an it was this tool that helped get there! Be proud an own it it just might give others the courage to do it also if they have been thinking of this as well. It might not sound like a lot but obviously it was a medical necessity or insurance wouldn't have approved it nor ur Dr am I right? I really don't want to pry but did ur insurance approve or self pay? U don't have to answer if u don't want to I totally understand I'm trying to figure out like others the hesitation? Bless ur heart..hope u come up with an answer for ur self. ..

Sleeved a week ago. Feel no different?
I have had the constipation issue even while on a stool softener. .. I had ibs before surgery now it's corrected an I'm lil on the other side now. Someone mentioned the b12 sublingal 500 3 x wk...I give myself a shot b12. 1000 once wk I need to look into that..that could also contribute to my running out dragging by the afternoon an evening. ..

eating constantly!
I've gotten into the small 5 or 6 times most days...I use myfitnesspal an log everything I'm hitting the minimum 60 protein requirements most days. Some days I throw in a avocado. ..I just hit the 700 cal tues that was first time. I changed my milk that I mix my chike powder with an it upped my cal yesterday. .felt good yesterday. Today descent. .some days not hungry an have to remind myself I need to eat. But overall I'm really happy ! I thought about this surgery for over 10 yrs last 2 plus yrs of therapy I was ready for this life changing especially when 2 drs steered me this way! I'm down 55 from start to now..I went thru my closet yesterday I have a mountain of clothes I'm happy to sack up!! hope all is doin good..

Looking for encouragement
I have had that surgery. Don't beat yourself up. Get as much bed rest as possible walk when ur up to it. Ur body needs rest to heal. That's major. Ur not going to get out of control with weight. If others are cooking for u put ur food order in. Get ur protein as much as possible an b careful of the sugar. My nut says no more then 10 grms per serving so u can still have sugar just b careful. Balanced diet. It took me along time to recover from that. U will b emotional. I was 32 when I had mine. Don't worry about weight right now. Focus on healing. Sounds like u have already conquered the weight! ! Congrats an b proud of that. I got to where the numbers on scales started to affect how I judged myself ..pat on my back or I really beat myself up. I am 7 wks post sleeve. .I'm feeling pretty awesome of my accomplishments right now..Hang in there. Get well....
-
Can the sleeve stretch?
Yes it can stretch. I had to go thru several preop classes an my surgeon told me if u go back to old behavior, over eating, high calories during a day, carbonation, grazing ur tummy will stretch. That's why there's some who end up putting weight back on. In fact I had a friend who had wls 18 yrs ago. An bc she didn't address her eating addiction she started eating Luke her preop behavior she stretched an ended up putting it all back on plus...that's why it stretches. .it takes a total behavior an mental change. Baby the new baby tummy: )

Realistic Weight Loss & Energy
I also had hernia repair. .I'm 7 wks out an I can't imagine having to go to wrk a wk later. I had really bad chest esophagus spasms every time I sipped. I take it u had to go back to wrk or it would b different. I'm not even really exercising yet but I am walking all over the house busy doin things but also resting when my body says rest. I hope u have more of a desk job then u can walk around an rest. Take it easy. My surgeon told me to at least give myself a month to heal. My internists told me it takes a good 6 months to heal. Especially with hernia repair. Not to pic up anything over 10 pds for a while. My 2 days in hospital I gained 8 pds. .lost within a wk..I bought an unflavored high protein powder an put a spoonful in my juices, coffee, (decaf) in broths jello etc. .that's how I got fluids an protein in at once. Ur lack of energy is ur body is using all u havright now to heal..be careful. .hang in there..don't worry about a lot of exercise right now. Leisure walking is fine...the weight will come off.

How many calories is too few
I am 7 wks out an I use myfitnesspal an I'm still only getting between 400 to 650 daily. Which is fine with me. I am struggling with energy which isn't nothing new have been for 15 yrs or so. I have hashis so it's destroying my thyroid I swing from high to low.. on thyroid med going to have it upped soon. I still meet protein requirements of 60.

10 days out and feeling GREAT!
Some ppl do..my surgeon said no gum..it causes stomach secretions an gets u hungry so u end up grazing. He told me if u graze it means more calories no weight loss..so I don't chew...every surgeon has their own protocol. .

4 days Post Op and I feel like poo :( insight, please!
The chest pain ur having from the hietal hernia repair all them nerve endings have been cut is how my internists explained it to me. It lasted a lil over a wk for me. Yea u prbly had some gas also but the repair of the hernia I could barely sip water every time I sipped it felt like a heart attack. I stayed an extra night so I could be hydrated from iv but by the second night I wanted to go home. My internists gave me a script for lidocaine liquid if I needed it. But he said be very careful taking it to make sure I put it way in back of throat before swallowing bc its all numbing. .u might want to ask dr about it if u feel u need it. I toughed it out..I'm 7 wks out now. Hang in there ull b good..

Telling the extended family?
Don't worry about it! U owe no one anything! I told my parents they fixed my tummy an hernia bc I couldn't metabolize. .period..end of story. Now I can loose weight! If I was u I would just leave it alone. ..if it gets out it gets out. I'm just saying it was best for my situation!
-
Is it me, or is it them?
I no wat u mean! I've done decided I'm not explaining myself...I don't bring it up..

The Soft Solids Effect
I still just eat soft stuff..an I always eat protein first..then soft vegs. ..to this day I eat all protein first then the most veg I've ate so far is 2 or 3 literal green beans. No salad...potatoes on my plan are a no no bc of sugar carbs...it will slow down weight loss. I have tolerate a few bites of broiled salmon an flounder. .over all I still get in only 5 or 6 bites at one meal an I'm full comfortablely. A lot of this is head games...brain chemicals are powerful.
-
Is it me, or is it them?
Exactly! Don't feel bad..keep head held high! Its not u it's them. I'm like u I don't make this a topic of conversation. In fact the last person who asked me something I just said I have adopted a very strict routine, an I'm done with the conversation an talk about something else. The majority of my friends no I have lupus an fibro so it kinda goes hand in hand..I told my parents my surgeon went in an cut off the bad part of tummy an fixed my hernia. .I really don't care about everyone else thinks. I do have a girlfriend who is over 300 pds if she says something I'm just going to tell her I refused to be that way the rest of my life. She plays a victims role an is miserable an her hubbys prbly close to 300 himself he likes his food to well..he has kept her big bc he doesn't want her changing either...they supposedly eat a low carb diet..uuhh it's not working..luv them to death but not me anymore. My highest weight was 259...never again! You say what u need to say n move on..that's my plan..
