  1. Who was your doctor? How was your experience? I feel like I'm going to have trouble convincing my family that Tijuana is safe...
  2. Well that's the thing, there is no insurance company. The surgery is publicly funded by Canadian Health Care which is why it takes so long. A lot of Canadians go to Tijuana for $5k.
  3. Hi! Just curious - where are you from, where did you/are you planning to get the surgery, and how long did it take from your first appointment to your surgery? I'm in Canada and so discouraged to hear it's a 3-5 year wait. I'm a university student so I can't afford to self-pay even to Mexico right now, so it helps with waiting to hear y'all's stories!
  4. So excited for you ladies! How long as it been since you started the process?
  5. Are you from Canada? I'm in Alberta and with the 3-5 year wait times for surgery, it's looking like I'll be going to Tijuana too.
  6. Following this thread. I live in Canada and just requested my referral to the bariatric clinic yesterday. From what I've researched, I still have years to go unless I jet off to Tijuana. I've been having a lot of the same anxieties as you but after all the research I've done I just can't stop thinking how worth it it will be to ditch acid reflux along with alcohol, my infertility along with ice cream, high cholesterol along with hot wings, sleep apnea along with sour candies and depression along with Doritos, and how even when I go to the movies and can't stuff myself with a large bag of buttery popcorn, I'll be able to sit comfortably in the seat and cuddle with my boyfriend. As obese people, we almost all have a destructive relationship with food which I think is even more difficult to overcome than the challenges that go along with surgery. You and I born will require a lot of support and education to get through but I know it will be worth it! Good luck in your journey!
  7. Awesome!! That really gives me hope! I'm so excited reading everyone's stories!
  8. I live in Alberta and just recently booked an appointment with my doctor to discuss getting a referral to the clinic in Edmonton. I looked up wait times for the surgery online and it said 3-7 years! Please tell me that's not the case! What was the wait time you were given, wherever you live, and how long until your surgery was booked? TIA!
  9. You look fantastic! I'm 22 and it's so inspiring to see your success story. I am on the very first step of my journey and will be going to the doctor on Tuesday to request a referral to the bariatric clinic in my area and I am now even more excited!
