  1. Does any live in Mass. and have Medicare. I was wondering what the requirements were. I called the insurance company and they didn't seem to know anything. I think I have a 6 month medically supervised diet program to complete. Has anyone done that and what is it that you had to do for that. Has anyone been really close to the 40 BMI with no comorbidities since all mine are just borderline. My BMI is now a 41.5 but worried if I loose to much then I won't qualify for the surgery. If I qualify then I will be going to Burlington Mass. but doing my pre surgery appointments in the Danvers/Beverly hospital. Of anyone out there has used them for bariatric surgery or is going to use them I would love to hear from you. My niece went through them and did fine.
  2. Hi, I am the same as you just starting out. Although I don't have Medicaid I have Medicare I too have to do a 6 month medically supervised diet. When I went to my PCP she told me to wait until I go to my first appointment. She had other patients that had WLS and my insurance and she didn't have to monitor their diet, the center for the WLS did it. I also heard others saying that they did do the diet with their doctor and when they went for their first appointment they were given a form that the doctor had to fill out each time they went for the diet. Based on all this I am waiting until I go to my first appointment with the WLS center. And I also found for Medicare the 6 month diet was the first month go to the doctor once a week then after that they go once every other week for months 2-6. I'm not sure so I am waiting. Good luck in deciding. And best wishes for you in your journey.

    FEP Blue submitted 4/8/14

Good Luck and hope everything goes well for you. Let us know what happens. Did you medical center seem to think you would qualify? Did you have to do a 3 month medically supervised diet first? I have FBCBS Basic but I also have Medicare which is now my primary since my husband retired. I am just starting out my first appointment is May 16th but with Medicare they require a 6 month medically supervised diet along with other things. I was talking to FBCBS and they told me that I not only have to complete Medicare's requirements but I also have to complete their requirements too. How easy was it to complete the requirements and how long did it take you?

    Paperwork submitted today!

Good Luck and I hope everything turns out okay for you. Try not to bite your nails though after you loose your weight you might want to have great nails to go with your new body. I am just starting my journey. I have my first appointment may 16th. I have to do a 6 month medically supervised diet though. I have two insurance companies and I was told by the second one that I not only have to meet the requirements of the primary insurance but I also have to meet the second insurance requirements too. I 'm not sure this is true. My PCP told me to go to my first appointment since they deal with insurance companies all the time they would now.
